Wouldn't you know it. I attend FA: United, a con only a little more than a stone's throw from home, and the one thing I forget to bring is my sketchbook. That one omission was largely responsible for my having drawn nothing during the entire con.
Well, almost nothing.
While in the gaming room, after discovering I sorely need to refresh my Crazy Taxi skills, I instead busied myself doing at least one drawing, this time for myself, that would be used to decorate the cover of the binder I use to carry my standalone pics at cons. The subject matter was totally throwaway, but it did elicit a few chuckles among the con attendees who saw it. Here I present Tanya, operating yet another tired 4chan meme, in case you didn't get the reference looking at the pic, Google "shoop da whoop" (yes, I'm aware of the stereotypes involved in the meme). [EDIT:] Oh btw, the first YouTube video in the search results blows--try the second one.
Production notes:
--I really, really tried not to put a lot of work into this one, but it turned out to be the most complex drawing I ever did at a con, which explains why the perspective on the laser gun's support structure is a little borked.
--Those who saw the pencils of this at FA:U will no doubt notice that I digitally re-drew the business end of the laser. Honestly, the original version was kinda (actually, really) wimpy-looking, so I performed a "fixed it for ya" that at least makes it look like it could live up to the meme.
--I employed my application's version of layers once again to do most of the shading/highlight work on Tanya, generating a native format file in the range of 40 megabytes or so. Two versions were created, one with my usual attributions, and another without, which will be given some other title for the cover of my art binder (I'm thinking of "The Art of RailRide - Stand-Alone Complex", or something equally silly)
--I didn't want to brush-ink the mechanical bits, but I was mindful of how my pigment markers (micron-style pens) produced really ragged-looking linework once scanned, so I did the whole thing in brush ink. Digital color by Micrografx Picture Publisher
(Edit 2/19/09: This pic is the first of mine to appear on a *chan board. I am amused that a non-adult pic was the first of mine to have that happen to. It must be that awesome. It appears on the first pageof their search page for "Furries."
