Edward Ulani Fanemanuloka, known simply as Eddie Fane to the phoenetically challenged, is the son of a famous arena battler. His relationship with his father has not been close however, as the elder donphan has spent almost all of Eddie's life on the road and has barely seen or even spoken to his son. Eddie's father would always try to make up for his absence by sending Eddie expensive things from his travels, which didn't work, but Eddie never complained about the fancy toys.

As a phanpy Eddie was fairly quiet and shy, engrossing himself in books, computer games, and other sedentary activities. He spent a lot of his early school years teased as the "fat kid" and didn't have many friends. Those that he did have were interested more in his abundance of high-tech toys than in him. But that would all change when Eddie evolved into his donphan form.

While many others in his position turn to revenge for the bullying and teasing that they had been subjected to, Eddie decided not to waste any time with such foolishness. Far too focused on his new life, he never gave the old one a second thought. Suddenly strong, outgoing, and popular, and not just because he was the first guy in school with an X-Ball system (an overseas gift), he was living life to the fullest. Eddie was recruited to join Team Cobalt by their leader Sherilyn Voltaire and eagerly became the team's muscle. When the team was tragically split up following the deaths of two of his team members, Eddie declared himself a "free agent". Many teams have courted him to join them but so far none of them have struck his fancy and he remains a solo battler.

Eddie is a fun-loving, good-natured guy who makes friends easily and often. Tempers at the academy can often run high as rivalries threaten to get out of control, and Eddie often finds himself in the role of peacemaker, helping fellow students come to terms with these rivalries. If doing so involves stepping between them and forcing them to sit down and talk, he has no problem doing so. Eddie still fancies himself a gamer geek and has become something of a champion among the geeks, dweebs, and freaks as a sort of "anti-bully". They all know that if they have a problem with someone picking on them they can hide behind Eddie who will solve the problem, one way or another.

In a battle Eddie's approach is pretty straight-forward. He doesn't really care if people can easily see through his strategy, he just defies them to stop him. Usually a "Hulk smash" strategy works fine, but in the instances where it fails, Eddie is very bright and creative, bringing a gamer geek's warped sense of strategy to the arena when need be.
