Stunning sunny strawberries in a kitkat basket what a great conbination from the kitchens of
jen-foxworth
For this cake you will need:
4 cake box mixes, chocolate or pound cake tastes the best or equivalant home made cake.
2 "9" pans- round
3 containers of strawberries
5-6 king size kit kat packages
Buttercream or Whipped icing, you may want to use whipped because it takes a lot of icing, you don't want to overload the sweetness. *I used butter because I'm to lazy to make my own icing*
Bake your two cakes, two boxes per pan usually works. Chop yer strawberries heads off and cut in half. Wash before and after cutting, and dry very well, or too much juice will bleed into the icing.
Put some icing on your surface *where you will place the cake* to hold it down. place yer first cake FACE DOWN with the flat side facing UP on the icing. Put a thin *THIN* layer of icing on the flat part, and place ONE LAYER of strawberries on this, leaving ONE INCH of room from the outside of the cake. Otherwise the berries will bleed or be seen through when you ice the outside.
Take your other cake and flip it flat side up. Ice this with another thin layer of icing. Flip it back the other way so the flat side is FACING DOWN and place it on your other cake. *you're using the icing like glue to hold the strawberries in place*
You may now ice the entire cake. Don't worry too much about the sides or even the top being perfect, because you won't see them.
Take your kit kats and break them to make the sticks, and softly/lightly press them into the sides of the cake like so.
Ice a border around the bottom of the cake with a large cupcake tip, then put more strawberries against it, like so.
Ice gray dots for 'basket bolts' *or whatever they are called* onto the kit kats like so.
make a mound of icing on the top and make a "half dome" of icing and start coating it with the cut strawberries. YAY ALL DONE.
Originally this was supposed to have blueberries and blackberries to hide in the icing on top so you didn't see the icing, but my mate only likes strawberries on his cake, so therefore it was.
note: when done, this cake smells so freagin good, you have to force yourself not to start picking at it. my god I wanted to eat it so bad.
