If you didn't see my sketch recently, let me introduce you to this character: this is Zoharim, or "Z" or "Zo" for short. (Pronunciation: Zo as in Zone, Har as in Hard, and Im as in Imagine) The name is Hebrew for "lights".
Zo is a mixture of mostly phoenix and some gryphon. So at least 75% burd and the rest kitty. Zo presents renewal, ambition, and self-expression.
A note about the colors- that tan/brown color was supposed to be orange, but I opted for the softer tan fur that I had lying around the house rather than having to buy new stuff. Also, the big tail feathers are supposed to imitate what the sunrises and sunsets look like here in the desert. Always so pretty!
I'm cuddling with this plush right now and I could swear I can feel it radiating warmth!
I've been toying around with the idea of adopting this guy as my primary "fursona" for a while. Ever since that indicent with the crazy dragon lady, I've kind of had a bad taste in my mouth about identifying with dergins. Plus something about there being so many dragon characters out there makes me want to change. Sema calls me a self-loathing dragon :P
In all honesty, it really doesn't matter what "character" I identify with, because to me they're just masks- a fancy coping mechanism for my ASD super powers that allows me to interact with the world and such. I'm not asking anyone to change how they view me or how they address me- Taren, Boobins, T-Dubs, or just Hey You is fine!
So yes, as far as "methodology" there are several innovations here: this is the first time I've used fur for the main body and not just highlights or decorations. Astute readers may also notice that this plush stands on all fours and doesn't just lie down. Yes, this is a new pattern that I'll be using in the future! I don't know how well it shows up here, but I also included a little phoenix shaped pendant that I bought from Hobby Lobby. Eee!
Anyway, enjoy! Chirp chirp squawk!
Yeah, this one's for me too (i.e. not for sale)- now back to commissions!

Yeah that's why I'm not full out "rar i haet drgns 4evr!!!" If i do that then I might as well still be "drinking the koolaid" so to speak. I'm doing what I should have done to begin with and just having fun. Designing this character for fun has made me feel so much better about all that nonsense. I can do this all on my own now, whee
Certainly! I've actually got one in my commission queue currently that wants fur, so I'd be happy to take a look at what you'd like. Shoot me an email at furducers[at]gmail.com with references/links/descriptions so I can get an idea of what you're looking for.
I'd rather avoid copyrighted designs, especially when they are customer ordered- sorry. I'm not sure how I'd do all his markings on such a small scale anyway :/ sounds like something i should practice, though!
I'd love to take a look at the other two characters if you don't mind! :D
