"Heya, all! Some of you probably are aware by now that I'm kinda a big deal. Popular, well-liked, totally awesome, etc. It can be hard to give all those worshipers the proper thanks for all that attention, but what kind of goddess would I be if I didn't?
This here is the capital city of one of my personal planets, and those delightfully clever worshipers went and built me a comfy little throne right in the middle of it! It's got all the important amenities- nice poofy cushion, rows of statues dedicated to my overwhelming greatness, plenty of buildings and citizens around to harmlessly smother with my hugeness... What more could a goddess ask for?
... What's that, you say? 'More of me?' Why, yes, I CAN ask for that! I've clearly trained you well! Okay, guys, I'm gonna be growing now, so start working on expanding this throne! I'm gonna need a LOT more room pretty soon!"
- Okamitsune "Sunny" Æsir
Okamitsune summed up the picture pretty well I feel, but this is an idea I've had in my head since around January this year, and was most probably inspired by reading An Act Of Goddess. The Æsir family have created countless universes, so even I'd imagine that somewhere out there, there's planets that devote themselves to one particular member of the family - even if said member of the family is a little bit crazy. Anyway, I took the idea of the thrones from the story, and adapted into something a little more suitable for someone with an ego as large as Okamitune's - thus she has a throne made of futuristic buildings!
It was a really fun picture to do though. I'm a big fan of designing backgrounds which with a picture like this you really have to do, rather than just mindless drawing them in to fill up space. Those are statues in the foreground too in case it wasn't obvious, Megamacro statues at that! They show the planet's location in the grand scheme of things, all of which will have been made by the Æsir family.
I decided to colour this picture, as I was really happy with the sketch, and figured it would make a really good finished picture. She's grown a bit since the sketch too - in more ways than one. So anyway I hope you like how this looks, as it's taken me quite a bit of time to draw!
There's a lot of detail in this picture, so you might want to check out the full resolution version here: http://www.stampydragon.com/Images/.....ddessHiRes.jpg

How do you make and color all those details you put into it? I mean there is just so much detail in the picture from the big detail like Okamitsune and the statues and buildings, to the very small details like the small macros in the croud of smaller people, to the trees in the far away background.
I love the coloring in this picture and Okamitsune she looks lovely also.
I enjoy all your art, makes me want to get a picture done by you but am not sure how much something like this would cost and i don't think you give me one for free.

Thanks a lot. I felt really inspired when making this, and it's an idea I'd been toying around with in my head for a couple of months while working on other pictures - so I already knew the type of things I wanted in the picture. As for all the details, it was just time and patience. I'm not sure exactly how long the picture took as I wasn't keeping track, but just to colour it was about 2 weeks, at around 5 hours a day.
With commissions, I don't like to go this detailed, unless its something I'm really inspired by. It just takes too long and I'd have to charge more money than I'd be comfortable to charge people.
Thanks a lot though.

Oh goodness. Stunningly beautiful work here. I liked everything about the sketch -- the concept, the pose, and especially those globes showing the planet at various scales -- but the finished version is just exponentially better in every way.
I think my favorite part now may be the city itself; the way the light is reflecting off all those tiny windows makes it look almost crystalline, as beautiful and otherworldly as a goddess deserves! Unusual structures like the split dome, kris, and floating rings are, again, beautiful and alien, and add enough variety that the eye doesn't just dismiss the cityscape as background. In any other pic I'd call the mirroring lazy, but as either side of her "throne" I think it would look stranger if they were different. ;>
And I have to say, I'm a fan of this "growing between sketch and finished product" idea. It really should happen in more macro artwork. From what I know of Okamitsune, I can absolutely see her flexing her powers to make drawings/statues/etc. of herself grow over time, hehe.

Oh wow thanks for the lovely comment. The picture's something I've been wanting to draw for quite some time, so I'm really glad that people like how it came out. The plan all the way through was to integrate a throne made of cities into the design of a city itself. I thought the box shaped buildings from the sketch were a bit too plain, so I decided to spice it up. The mirroring was a conscious design decision, and while it did save a bit of time, they still had to be reshaded anyway.
Hah, yeah the growing between sketch and finished product thing was completely unplanned. She actually grew a few times through the drawing of the picture. I wanted the proportion to be on model for Okamitsune, which for a character who is never "too big" is quite hard for an artist who isn't particularly fond of "hyper", but I did end up making her bigger in that sense. Then I extended the bounds of the picture, as I felt too much of the city was being cropped off with square proportions. Then finally, I had an issue with the paw being blocked by some of the buildings. I tried a few things to see if I could get it to work, but in the end, just scaling Okamitsune up even more seemed to be the logical solution!
And yeah, to be honest its a miracle in itself that she's still managed to stay on the seat made for her there. I figure it won't be long at all before this planet's treated to some "Sunny skies".
I'm really glad you like the picture though! Thanks for the comment!

I figure it would be a glass like substance, yeah. Whether or not they're giant snowglobes, bio domes, or portals to another dimension, I'm going to leave up to the viewer! With Okamitsune involved though, it could be any or all the above.
