This is my entry to the recent summer 2007 Anthrofiction Short Story contest, held at http://www.anthrofiction.net. This is the first time I have ever competed in a story contest, and I won 3rd place! I'm pretty happy with the results. Moreover, poetigress  poetigress had the winning entry, with 'Childish Things'. Go check it out on her page!

This story follows Kuru, a young lioness cub who has just recently been allowed to join her mother in the hunt for prey. Through her experiences, she learns the trials and dangers that face her family, and just how precious water can be for those who live on the Savannah.

I had a lot of fun writing this story, and I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. Now that the contest is over, I'm posting it for the public. Please let me know what you think.

Again, enjoyed reading this. (If I'd had my way, this would have come in a very close second.) ;) I think you actually did a better job with the theme than I did -- the rain scene is wonderful. Interesting to think of how someone would perceive rain if they'd never experienced it before... I think you pulled that off very well.

Actually, I haven't put "Childish Things" up here on FA yet, but I will once it's taken off the contest site. In the meantime it's here.

And, before I forget, if you're looking for inspiration, I post a prompt for writers in my journal every Thursday. All are welcome to participate, and I'd love to see you join in...
