There's a message behind this song. And that message is - don't challenge me to turn anything into a power metal epic, because chances are I'll try and do it! I actually wondered for a while whether to explicitly say where the story of this song is from, but I think that people who know of it will recognize it anyway - there are certainly enough hints... I used to write songs based on existing storylines all the time, such as Albion and Heart of the Beast, but this is the first one that I've tried for a while.
This started off as a bit of a joke, to be honest, but after the chorus accidentally turned out to be one of my favourites ever, I felt I had to finish it. The most challenging part was getting the whole backstory into the introduction section without it taking too much time, and I had to cut it a little too short for my liking to fit it into two verses.
It goes through many different sounds, including a waltz time section. I haven't tried many of those before, but I managed to get something that I really liked, both in the first lighter section and the heavier instrumental later on.
Enjoy this one - no deep meaning or running theme behind it this time, it's there for the fun of it. :)

[Lyrics]
He existed with a bitter envious king
After all his trust, they tortured him within
With such cruelty, he was maddened as he fought
For jealously brings hate
And suffering his fate
He had the strength to kill us with a thought
Power runs wild, the kingdom will fall
And all the world we knew will die
Unable to kill, the master of all
Confined to the island in the sky
At the centre of a black and twisted maze
In eternal darkness, blinded by his rage
The greed of the race of humans, to steal his mighty storm
To use it for themselves, they took him from his hell
Drew out and cast his power to a form
And the crown was made from all of his hate
And buried beneath the earth
The curse to obey, we saw the last day
The ashes remaining of this world
Sent into the skies above
And reaching for the crown
His memories are lost
Inside the earth without a sound
Forgotten in the underside
The beast from down below
A remnant of a thousand years ago
Now lost in the earth, he's nothing but a shell
Mechanical heart of steel
But coming to life, see the war begin again
He can learn to think and feel
And your heart of steel will lead you
To stand against the master of heavens
With his soul by your side
Let Earth be your guide
To finish this story forever
Rise and go
Diving to the lands below
And reaching for the core
Demented heart of darkness
In the centre of it all
The creatures of this island
That by my own hand had died
Unthinking, destroying their lives
Now lost in the earth, he'll make up for his past
Mechanical heart of steel
And coming to life, see the war begin again
He can learn to think and feel
And your heart of steel will lead you
To stand against the master of heavens
With his soul by your side
Let Earth be your guide
To finish this story forever
A beautiful crimson flower
The source of all control
The power of life, to draw out your strength
It only costs your soul
The rage will come for us all
And spread all over the earth
Before the stand against the king
We'll save the world from ourselves
Through the holy land you'll carry on
Bloody angels light your way
Crossing through the miles of the underside
To find out your own name
And in the centre of it all he stands
Through millenia still alive
Screaming souls inside him, it's your only chance
Before you lose your life
Rising up from the earth, emerging from his shell
Mechanical heart of steel
And reaching the sun, see the master's throne again
He can learn to think and feel
And your heart of steel will lead you
To stand against the master of heavens
With his soul by your side
Let Earth be your guide
To finish this story forever
Heart of steel will lead you
To stand against the master of heavens
With his soul by your side
Let Earth be your guide
To dethrone the tyrant
And bring back our lives
You will finish this story - forever

Thanks, it's good to know I've got the interest of someone who's obviously very into the game =) (Is it the 'doukutsu' community you own? I didn't actually know that there were any LJ communities for it.)
I'd love to get it into vocal form too - I'm beginning to learn the guitar myself, so I might be able to get these things out of a purely electronic format, and perhaps a 'real' band isn't too far off after that.

...Right, that does it. Given the amazingness of your work vs. my aversion to listening to things in any sort of mix (I -have- to just do front-to-back sittings of entire albums,) I think I'm going to go download the tracks from My Kingdom one by one, string them together in a playlist, and make that one of the albums I listen to while weaving today.
I'd do it with Machine World, because I swear you're actually getting better with every song you release, but the rest of Machine World isn't out yet. :(

Oh, nice! WinAmp rules that My Kingdom in its entirety weighs in at 1:07:47, now that I've got it all downloaded. That's awesome. Since the constant stream of front-to-back album listening is a critical part of my weaving, I kind of subconsciously measure my speed by how many inches I make per -album,- rather than actual time. Thus, those 45-minute ones really bug me. That was, like, the one thing wrong with Kamelot's Ghost Opera. :( But anyway, My Kingdom is a good size and I will promptly add it to the rotation. You can now take at least partial credit for the fact that I actually got my work done on time this week (because God knows I need my music to actually keep me motivated while at the loom all day.)
And, uh, sorry for the comment spamming. Last one for now, I promise.

That's OK (strange that FA only notifies you of the first comment in a thread) - it's good to know you liked it, as I thought that it could go either way as far as the silliness factor was concerned =)
I usually aim for about an hour per album (which thanks to my inability to control song length is usually about eight songs). But this one might be a bit longer as I had a couple of ideas that I really liked that weren't on the original plan, and there are two more ten-minuters at the end. I'd tried to keep the song lengths down for most of the last one, so I let myself loose again here.
And I'm only halfway through writing it! There are too many projects going on at the same time... the next one is actually pretty much finished (and there's a pre-release version that was made for a competition on my SheezyArt account), but the others might have a bit more of a delay before they're out.

Love the dark intro in this one. Interesting to listen to a slower piece by you. I notably like the flute in the intro, and the way you add the percussion section.
The cadenza starting at 2.11 followed by the guitar made the hair on my neck stand up. Great creation and release of tension in there. The increase in tempo is very gradual, not making me realise that it happened at all before it was already fully developed. Takes a lot of skill to do that.
The guitar (?) starting at 5.30 goes back to a very calm and relaxing feeling. It's not often that I've heard a 3/4 rhythm coming from you, but definitely nice to listen to.
7.14 - Back to your old self, I notice. The guitar and percussion go together well, and the flute complements it nicely.
8.30 - back to a more epic sound build. Your musical style really stands out in FA's crowd. Not to mention that I adore triplets. And concluding a piece by removing instruments from the score rather than building up a final "bang" isn't something you see to often on this site.
In conclusion, I wouldn't call this a song as much as a symphony "en miniature". Definitely fave material.

WOW! awesome work! i am new to the fur affinity music crowd, but so far you are the best i have heard. i like the melody and the prog-power-metal feel. please take a listen to my music. i am trying to gain popularity among us furs. thanks. ooh, and what plug in do you use for the guitar sounds? is it just standard midi? because it sounds pretty good.
Thanks a lot =)
I don't use a plugin for the guitar sound, it's an XI instrument (along with all the other instruments) - I can't remember where I found it, but the raw sample is up here:

I had a quick look at your music, and I think you're definitely worth watching too - I like the chip-inspired sound of what I've heard.

Thanks, I'm glad you like it - I would be interested to know what he thought, too :) I was undecided about how blatant to make it - the first line of the chorus was originally "And the sword of King will lead you", which would have probably made the rest of it make more sense, but I thought that that was a bit too power metal. Despite (or maybe because of) the unusual subject choice, people seem to be enjoying it!
