When I'd first met Graham Nolan - at the March, 2010 edition of "MegaCon" (the annual comic book convention in Orlando) - he was just debuting his new webcomic "Sunshine State". Upon one look at some of the strips, I'd thought there was a lot of potential for it - since its cast of characters are anthropomorphic versions of Florida fauna, and I've been living in Florida for over fifteen years already.
(The cast includes 'Melbourne' [or 'Mel', for short] the alligator, 'Dink' the pelican [with an iPod], 'Liz' the gecko [who has a secret crush on 'Mel'], 'Ray' the manatee [who runs a tiki bar by the beach], and 'Paul' the [world's largest] palmetto bug.)
But here's the 'twist of lime': even though the webcomic takes place in Florida, its cartoonist/creator draws it from his home... in upstate New York!
At any rate, Graham was still nice enough to render 'Mel' in my "BBS" (big black sketch book). Since then, I'd posted it here in "FA" - http://www.furaffinity.net/view/3938340/
Since "MegaCon 2010", Mr. Nolan and I have been in constant communication with each other, via both regular E-mail and through "Facebook".
Recently, I got the inclination to draw a piece of 'fan art' with two "Sunshine State" characters - 'Mel' and 'Dink' - in a situation involving an internationally famous commercial icon. In addition to being 'fan art', and in the form of a comic strip, the gag also contains some 'furry inflation'...
Having sent the finished, full-color work to Mr. Nolan (as an attachment to my E-mailing), he wrote back that he enjoyed my gag. I'd asked for his permission to post it here in my "FA" site; he consented. I hope you like it as much as he did!
BTW, if you'd like to see some of Graham Nolan's "Sunshine State" strips, there are three ways to view it: (1) go to the website at http://www.sunshinestatecomics.com/ , or (2) go to the Go Comics at http://www.gocomics.com/sunshine-state/ , or (3) look for "Sunshine State Comics" in "Facebook".
