Yep, here's one of those slap-in-the-face-to-objectors submissions. With good points.

Ok, to avoid any more drama because of morons who can't think, this is my opinion. You can't say it's wrong. This is how I feel. You cannot dispute someone's feelings. However, this doesn't necessarily represent my WHOLE opinion, or ALL of my feelings. No piece of art can ever do that. So don't assume that it is.

And for god's sake, have some fucking respect.

This is why I hate the media today... they spoon feed us... they tell us what to think. They don't just tell us that this happened, or someone did this... no, it's someone is a ____ because they did ____, and because of this they -probably- _____ or -could be- a ______. And we get used to this kind of babying with information and smearing, and we see the effect here. GET A FUCKING BRAIN AND THINK FOR YOURSELVES

You legend. You absolute, bonafide, Legend. It needed to be done and you did it. The side effects i most experiance are: Friendliness, Warm Fuzzy Feeling, Less Stress, New Relationships and a desperately needed Renewed Self Confidence. I've certainly made loads of new friends around the world, and at home, throught the Furry world.

Thanks for this, it's great. *favs*

Maybe not for you, but apparently this is the case for him.

Most of these DID apply a lot more to what the fandom was for most people in it 5-6 years ago. "A reason to live" might be a bit much, but I'm sure that was the case for at least a few people. I knew a couple people who were suicidal for whatever reasons, until they found the encouragement and welcoming the fandom had, which they weren't getting in their rl.

What bugs me is when people for whom this ISN'T what the fandom amounts to, feel the need to try and keep ANYONE from getting these kinds of positive reinforcements from it.

This isn't what the fandom is for everyone. But it is certainly what it is for SOME people, and it used to be most of those things for a lot more people.

And why the hell is that such a horrible thing to some people? >_<

That's what I've been trying to get across! I'm so bad with expressing myself in words, though <.< Thank you!!! I just am amazed that we live in a society that is supposed to give the right to free speech, yet we get attacked when we say something someone might not agree with. It's pretty sad that people lack any respect nowadays...

  wolfblade

( No Subject ) Posted: 4 years ago

This doesn't apply as much as it used to.

This was what the fandom was to most people like, 5-6 years ago. Now there are so many people insisting that it's the opposite, they end up making that be the case for a lot of people.

I just don't get what some peoples' hatred is for anything "nice." 9_9

( No Subject ) Posted: 4 years ago

I don't hate everything "nice". I just think:
1. It is incredibly absurd and sad to suggest that simply being an anthropomorphics fan will give me, e.g., a REASON TO LIVE. Anyone who is even slightly well-adjusted should be able to secure most of these things without much trouble alone.
2. Not a single item on this list is uniquely or directly related to the fandom, and it is almost painfully egotistical to assume that this group provides them but no other group will.
3. The naively optimistic image this puts in my head is slightly nauseating.

  musltngfox311lp

( No Subject ) Posted: 4 years ago

Where does it say that you WILL have ALL of those effects? It says you MAY have them. I know some people, as does Wolfblade, apparently, who did have the fandom keep them from committing suicide. That's where that comes from.

Who said that these things are exclusive to the fandom? Definitely doesn't up there. Assumptions will git you nowhere in life, my friend.

  lexyeevee

( No Subject ) Posted: 4 years ago

If these things were incidental and not at all unique, you would have had no point to make and no reason to create and upload the image.

  wolfblade

( No Subject ) Posted: 4 years ago

You can get food from any grocery store. The fact that each different store advertises that you can find foods there doesn't mean they are implying that you >can't< find those same foods elsewhere. They usually just want to express the opinion that theirs is the best location for finding those foods.

People can find all these points outside of furry. This person, and others, have found them here, and he apparently felt like expressing a positive sentiment for the community where he found these points. Again, why is that such a distasteful thing for him to have done?

  lexyeevee

( No Subject ) Posted: 4 years ago

Stores don't advertise that they have food there. They advertise the things they have that make them unique: either rare items or better prices.

I would have the same reaction for an ad saying "WARNING: Buying at QFC may have the following side effects: peanut butter, bread, milk, cookies..."

  wolfblade

( No Subject ) Posted: 4 years ago

So your opinion is that it's bad advertising.

Again, this still comes down to you disagreeing with this post because of things you feel it implies. The points you have expressed disagreement to are not stated expressly in the submission, and the poster has clearly stated that the points you find disagreeable were not his intention.

You feel that this sentiment states x, y, z, which you have issue with. It has been clarified that it was not intended at all to state x, y, z, which you find disagreeable.

So where does that leave us?

Welp, upon reading all the posts and re-reading the image, I can see where they're coming from. It's not the actual message, but rather the last bit of it that I'm not into. Why? Because it's basically saying "If you don't like these, GTFO," which is a blanket negative connotation and I think that's what's irking people. That and the last sentence really does make it seem like an advertisement that I personally would have no desire to join - it gives off the rather religious advertising ploy that, "all these people have done it, so should you!"
I'm not saying that I don't agree with the message, but it does hold some rather false advertising. I mean, what if someone read this outside of the fandom and was all "Yeah, hey, that's awesome!" And then fell into the drama BS? Or even worse, ran across a really bad crowd?

I think it'd be fun to drop a couple of minor "bad" effects - like the tendency to meow in public, Or think cat girls are extra smexy :3

  wolfblade

( No Subject ) Posted: 4 years ago

It's not that I can't see where people are coming from who had something against the image. I do understand the points raised against it.

But I still don't think people are understanding where the guy who posted this is coming from.

There is no shortage of people who talk about the bad parts of the fandom, and plenty of people who talk about JUST the bad parts. Plenty of people outside the fandom get nothing but advertisement about all the drama and freakishness and JUST the bad stuff, and think "wow, that's sick, what a bunch of freaks" and never get the chance to experience any of the good parts.

The whole point of advertising is to convey the image that you want people to have of what you are advertising. There are always pros and cons to everything, but it is just unreasonable for people to expect advertisements to include negative points as well.

Coke and Pepsi don't advertise that their products can rot your teeth or develop a caffeine dependency over time, just because that happens with SOME people.

Not everyone who is a part of the furry fandom goes through all the bullshit drama bad stuff. Plenty of people manage to just avoid the drama by not getting involved in it, or avoiding the people prone to it.

The point is, this is not false advertising. This is a statement of the good things this user, and plenty of others, have gotten from the fandom. "Being a furry >>MAY<< have the following side effects" and "if you find these undesirable you >>MAY<< not wish contact." This isn't what the fandom will be for everyone, and it doesn't say gtfo. If anything, the last line is a bit of a smart-ass rebuttal to all the people who seem to hate more about the fandom than they like, but still insist on being here. Which I think is more than justified. There's nothing unusual about a person seeing a large number of people joining the group just to bitch about it and eventually saying "hey, if you don't like this place, maybe you should just leave."

This post is a bit old now. I have to admit it just irks me that it seems so perfectly acceptable and fine for people to just badmouth the fandom, but when somebody tries to make a positive statement about the good things that THEY have gotten from the community, it's like people are offended somehow.

( No Subject ) Posted: 4 years ago

The 'hates everything nice' wasn't directed at you, but at others who have a persistent habit of appearing with an opposing viewpoint to anything that makes the fandom out to be something other than shitty drama-ridden fetishists. Which it is, of course, to SOME people, just as this view of it is the case for others.

1. It isn't just being a fan of anthropomorphics magically granting these things. Of course any of these points can be found from any number of other sources. But many people find them in the community that this fandom USED to be much more conducive to. A few people still manage to find these things here despite the best efforts of a sub-set of the fandom who, as I said, appear to just loathe anything "nice."

2. Not once has anyone mentioned or implied that furry fandom is the ONLY source of these items. That is an assumption you and some others have made, putting intention into this image that was not there. Again, any time someone says something nice or positive about the fandom, some people assume that they are saying that ONLY these nice things apply, and feel they MUST point out all the negatives. The fandom has pros and cons, and the various points of it, for good and bad, apply differently to different people. Some people get all these good things from the fandom, an others get nothing but the shit of it. Usually, the ones who get nothing but the bad are the ones who LOOK FOR and SPREAD all the bad points, while seeming to insist that is all there is for ANYONE.

3. Why? Why does it negatively affect you to think that something could provide these things to people? Because it's just the internet and you think it shouldn't be so important to anyone? Because you were able to find them elsewhere and think others should too? Okay, that's fine for you. But WHY is it a BAD thing if OTHER people who don't or can't find these things elsewhere, for whatever reasons, happen to find them in a community that happens to be online, and happens to be "furry fandom?" How does it possibly affect you negatively in any way that someone happens to find these things, just because of the method of how/where they do so?

  lexyeevee

( No Subject ) Posted: 4 years ago

I have no problem with people finding these things. I am irritated by the worldview that the image, the above "free speech" comment, and the response to Pi hint at, which I can only describe again as naive optimism: everything is always super-special-awesome for everyone who is Good, and everyone else is Bad, and if we get rid of Bad people then the planet will be butterflies and rainbows. I am acutely aware that the fandom -- as with all things -- has pros and cons, but the sort of impression I am getting from the artist is that he has no concept of gray whatsoever.

  freehaven

( No Subject ) Posted: 4 years ago

I agree with this comment in its entirety.

  wolfblade

( No Subject ) Posted: 4 years ago

All of this that you are so irritated with are points that you are breathing into the matter.

Where has it been said that everything would be butterflies and rainbows?

Do you think that nobody should ever be able to say anything happy and positive without including acknowledgement of negatives that are an inescapable and universally understood GIVEN fact of reality?

Yes, there will always be shitty shit in the world. No, getting rid of "bad people" will never make everything butterflies and rainbows. But it'd sure as hell make things a LITTLE nicer.

What you're getting from the artist is something built on assumptions. A person made a simple post describing nothing but the positives that this community gives >to some people.< A few who clearly do NOT get much positive from the community felt like disagreeing with the sentiment in a snotty manner (not Pi, he was the only one at least wording his disagreement maturely at first).

There are people who seem to do nothing but speak of JUST the negatives of the community. People who strongly opposed this person speaking of just the positives.

Just because someone is only speaking of one side or the other doesn't mean they are also explicitly denying the existence of the other side. That's the thing here, people are assuming that this is some poor delusional sap who NEEDS to be corrected because CLEARLY he is living in a fantasy world of sunshine and gumdrops and he NEEDS to be shown how horrible and crappy things really are.

Maybe it is just someone who KNOWS about all the crappiness, but would rather focus on the positive stuff because there's no shortage of people who JUST focus on the crappiness. This fandom is, to each person, whatever they make of it. Some people like to make it out to be a shithole of crap and drama and bullshit. If that's what they want it to be, then fine for them. But if someone else wants to try and focus on the better parts of it, and take something worthwhile from the fandom, LET THEM.

If you met the most naively optimistic person in the world, who was just nothing but sunshine and happiness with their life, and always had a rainbow gumdrop spin on every shitty thing that happened, what would you do? Would you beat at that person's outlook until you MADE them accept that life sucks and they need to be as miserable as everyone else?

  musltngfox311lp

( No Subject ) Posted: 4 years ago

"Maybe it is just someone who KNOWS about all the crappiness, but would rather focus on the positive stuff because there's no shortage of people who JUST focus on the crappiness."

Man, if anyone knew what I've been going through the past couple of months would know I am all too aware of the crappiness. Wolfblade's statement there is exactly what's going on. Besides, the idea and general concept of something like this would just not work if the crappy side were present.

  lunesk

( No Subject ) Posted: 4 years ago

Not only are you aware of the crappiness, but so am I.

I've observed the stress that he's gone through. Now that I can see he finds these good qualities in the fandom doesn't mean he can't find them in other places, but that he has failed to find them anywhere else but in the fandom. He found me because of the fandom. Me - the love of his life. So what if he found these things in the fandom. If you didn't, LexyEvee, you really have no right to be attacking someone's happiness. He is a happier person ever since he escaped the hatred of the fandom from his partents and could carry out his life doing the things that make him happy: Meeting furs, drawing, viewing art, supporting fellow furs, and expressing himself. These things make him happy. You have no right to tell him that what he enjoys is wrong

( No Subject ) Posted: 3 years ago

Really? You're really responding to a 5 month old post?

I'm not interested in arguing the point. My stated observations were true as far as what I saw of the fandom. If you saw differently, then our experiences with the community must have been vastly different. I stated truthfully what the fandom was for me, and I won't try and dismiss your own perception of it since I do not know personally what your interaction with the community has been like. I'm sorry that your experiences were apparently much less positive than mine.

What I AM genuinely interested in is what possible motivation you could have for necromancing such a long-dormant discussion just to be contradictory. What possible outcome did you expect? Did you want me to come back and argue the point of differing viewpoints with you? Were you wanting to start this debate back up again or something?

I'm not trying to be smartassed, I am genuinely curious as to what your answer would be. Because for the life of me, I can not come up with any reason for a person to toss off a comment like that which comes off as (and forgive me if you didn't mean it to be) snarky contradiction for contradiction's sake, except to just pick a fight or stir up long-dead drama and bickering.

It's one thing to get involved in a current bit of argument/debate/discussion, but poking a corpse this cold seems much less productive or sensible. If you had some motivation other than just being bored and looking for something to argue about, then please by all means, do fill me in. And that's not being sarcastic, I am sincerely curious, and would actually be quite happy to find out that there's a legitimate reason for this remark other than you just being bored and a bit of a dick.

My opinion of you based on the comments you make is that you simply enjoy pointing out the negative and contradicting people, as well as just tearing down the community in general, or the site or administration specifically, but without any apparent genuine desire to contribute to positive construction or building up of something better in the place of what you deem unsatisfactory.

This remark, like most any remark I see from you, reinforces that image. I'm told though, that my image of you is incorrect. I would actually love for you to prove that other person right, and prove my own perception of you wrong.

Otherwise, my opinion of you will not be any better than what I gather your opinion of me to be, so there's little likelihood of anything constructive coming from trying to strike up an argument with me. Especially stuff this ridiculously old.

  musltngfox311lp

( No Subject ) Posted: 4 years ago

That's not the point of this. The point is all the stuff you just named is all too well known - and that the 'horny guy living with his parents' stigma is false. That we do this for other reasons. This is what keeps us being furs, among the slight negatives of the stigma, drama, etc. These positive sides are not seen pointed out often, if at all, around the fandom, let alone outside of it.

  rapier4

( No Subject ) Posted: 4 years ago

Its not to say this isn't true, and its not to say neither is mine. The fan base has taken its share of beatings from a generalization in the beginning 'times' if you will of the fan base. Now a days I think they do it more to themselves than anything. There is always good in all fan bases really. No the positive sides arnt seen a lot in this, it overshadowed by a stereotype, one thats not always true. Why people consider themselves 'fans' of something is for this very reason. Its the same at an anime convention, you are all there for the same reason.
You just cant ignore the bad parts of it either, it does happen.

  musltngfox311lp

( No Subject ) Posted: 4 years ago

They're basically closed but there are many many furries which has the same interests. That's all. ;3

all things considered...I'd say that it's a nice idea, but my consideration, is that you're searching for benefits, and it was said earlier that nearly all of these are circumstancial, and not unique to the furry fandom.

but my greatest point is the consideration of this:

how is getting to know yourself, and learning more about yourself...different? there might be arguable differences, but in the relevence of it all, it's repitition. and it makes it seem as though you're spouting steam to make it seem important. half of the others are similar aspects

less stress and getting away from troubles are very similar.

making new friends and new relationships are very similar. i don't think I need to go on, but there's duplication, all over. and it just weakens the argument. now, I'm saying this as constructive criticism. I reccomend you speak to a number of furs, ask them their three favorite aspects about the furry fandom, that has benefitted them not only within the fandom, but outside of it as well.

the artistry improvement, I see as one of the best notes, simply because the furry fandom, is one of the few that does actually promote artistry.
even if it is porn, usually.

As I said before, I never said each individual thing wasn't unique to the fandom.

and also as I said before, each of these applies to furs I have known.

  diodraco

( No Subject ) Posted: 4 years ago

well, that's entirely true, they're all things that can, and do happen within the fandom, I, myself am a victim of many of these things. however, I want you to be aware that a lot of these items are not unique to each other!

the examples are laid out. the expression half dozen of one vs six of the other.
deaf in one are and can't hear out the other.

that's what I'm trying to say.

  musltngfox311lp

( No Subject ) Posted: 4 years ago

Evidence? Are you kidding me? Each of those things has applied to me or another fur I've known over the years. If you want to complain about that, do it elsewhere.

By the way, do us all a favor and get your head out of your ass. What you're basically saying is "I don't agree, so it's a lie." Here's a newsflash: The world doesn't gravitate around your thoughts.

I would suggest that what most folks would object to with this image is not so much what you were (apparently) intending as what it reminds folks of. Plenty of us know folks for whom the fandom is more of an enabler than anything else; a collection of misfits who will happily say they'll "tolerate" your own misfit behavior until everything explodes and then the drama comes out. Plenty of us know folks with genuinely serious issues that are being made worse by the fandom. And one of the chief symptoms of that kind of problem is people making assertions very similar to the above, blindly defending Furry as the end-all be-all that makes their lives possible (whereupon they'll happily turn around and harshly criticize non-furs for "not getting it" or whatnot.)

That being said, the fact that such situations exist doesn't mean that that's all that is out there, so I'm not going to accuse you of naivete or claim This Sucks or whatnot. I just feel compelled to point out that for some of us who have run into too many of the misfit cases for whom Furry is being a destructive influence, this sort of thing is usually a big fat warning sign.

If you're just trying to be optimistic in a two-edged world, tho, that's all fine. :)

  zombienerd

( No Subject ) Posted: 3 years ago

its just that the picture is so blasted...hell, i can't even think of a word for it. it just sounds like advertising false hope for a cult or something. with some extra words, a couple of the points make sense but...the furry fandom is hardly any sort of instant cure-all or some sort of hoodoo magic.

and after seeing all the shitty drama, worse art, disturbing people and the horrid fetishes...i don't see much good coming from furries. its out there--some of the optimists and some furs i know are testimony to that. but, man, i don't see the love and butterflies emitted by a morbidly obese babyfur in a dirty diaper or a ms paint dog cock. the fandom seems more "sex, sex, SEX!!!" than anything actually good or benevolent.

you know, the fandom -might- seem much more cheery and bright if one has the adult filter on.

For each of those things I can think of a case specific example. My first convention DID give me a renewed faith in life and people and gave me a reason to better myself. One year later, I had worked off 60lbs, and completely remapped my vocal patterns from the classic anti-social fat geek to, from what I'm told, a very charismatic friendly voice. The way I saw it, I finally had people to whom I could relate, and for that I wanted to work to not push them away but to have them see me as a friend. I could go on and on about the details, but to put it simply, the fandom gave me the reason to start living again.

( No Subject ) Posted: 3 years ago

Well, hawt damn! If we can't disagree civilly, lets just throw rocks at each other and shout out insults! That seems to be what you like to do so far!

By the way, feelings != opinions.

Opinion: a personal belief or judgment that is not founded on proof or certainty; "my opinion differs from yours"; "what are your thoughts on Haiti?"

Feeling: the experiencing of affective and emotional states; "she had a feeling of euphoria"; "he had terrible feelings of guilt"

  musltngfox311lp

  zombienerd

( No Subject ) Posted: 3 years ago

OH GOD LOL. please tell me you're a troll.

in your own comments you say for everyone to think for themselves yet don't want any negative comments. this is a public site with a great variety of people on it. not everyone will agree and not everyone is the sort that'll keep it to themselves.

negativity=/=trolling.

the huge DO NOT STEAL watermarks is also quite appropriate to the fandom: i see more people being paranoid about others stealing their sub-par "artwork" than those being positive, respectful or kind in any way. i've also noticed that the worse the picture is, the bigger/more watermarks are stamped on it. (that wasn't aimed at you: at least your submission isn't artifacted to hell like half the pictures on FA)

  musltngfox311lp

( No Subject ) Posted: 3 years ago

I say for people to think for themselves because a majority of the comments here are from wtf_fa on LiveJournal, and blindly follow the others in ravaging and harassing people's submission simply because it's apparently the cool thing to do in that community. You undoubtedly are one of those people as well.

I know more than you think about all this. For example, I know that this submission has been posted at least 3 times on wtf_fa, and I wouldn't be surprised if that made it the most featured submission on there. This would also give the impression that you are a n00b over there. Congratulations, now grow up, people.

And you sound like an unoriginal troll - yet another one stealing other people's phrases from wtf_fa... serisously, if you want to impress someone, use your own words. Maybe we should take down your accounts since you don't follow FA's rules against trolling...

  neopagan

( No Subject ) Posted: 3 years ago

Okay! First off. I am a furry. Second, I saw this on wtf_fa. Third, I've only seen this today so it's brand new to me, despite being uploaded a year ago.
Great, now that that's out of the way, I can get to my comment.

In all things, you should learn to take the bad with the good. I'm a realist. That's kind of what realists do. Focusing on just the positive aspects or negative aspects of something don't give the whole picture. while I applaud your attempts to bring some light into the fandom, this is in reality just a very small portion of it. Honestly, yours and Beowulf's versions should be combined or something to get a bigger picture of it. I honestly prefer Beowulf's version because it's good for a laugh. Despite all those things I do continue to affiliate myself with being a furry. Yet, apparently his is the one that had to be removed and reposted. Go figure. Some people get butthurt very easily if you inject some truth into the hugbox. :P

That brings me to my second point. You seem really bad at responding to the negative comments. If you really believed in what you posted you would probably find a better response besides 'n00b', despite how offended you might be by someone else's opinion. Part of that 'open mindedness' deal. As said above, negativity does not necessarily mean trolling.. especially if it seems well thought out. What gets me the most, though.. is, as was also pointed out, that you watermarked the fuck out of this. That, and that alone, seems to be the most hypocritical thing about this image. Especially since it's mainly just text! :P Wouldn't this type of thing be something that, instead of wanting to keep it bottled up, you would want to cast out to the winds and try to spread far and wide? It's like trying to keep positivity bottled up!

basically the tl;dr of what I'm saying is that to be truly open minded you have to face the bad with the good, and hypocrisy sucks!

If you do deign to respond to this I hope it'd be with something more well thought out than 'ur a wtf_fa n00b' cause I was a part of fa and furry in general long before I was a part of that group. :P

  musltngfox311lp

( No Subject ) Posted: 3 years ago

I'm not just ignoring all bad comments... I'm just sick of the periodic senseless attacks of people who just seem like they want to rip people down because they simply want to rip someone down, and hey - that one person who doesn't like it is a great excuse!

I know what's going on here, and I don't like it. If you look through, you might be able to see some of the comments that were negative, away from wtf_fa posts. I didn't take it so badly, though it is annoying to see people just totally miss the point. Some just act like the fandom is the worst scum on the planet after seeing this, which poses the question, "If you hate the fandom so much, and you agree with none of the positives of the fandom, why the hell are you here?"

I'm open minded until people try to close mine with their own narrow views - or worse, those without one who are just set to destroy for no good reason.
