showkaizer is an artist that always amazed me with his look, his style, his attention to detail, and his overall chill demeanor. I remember stumbling across Doritos, and thinking how amazing it was, and cute and silly and wonderful. But the thing with Show is that it was really difficult to get a commission from him, given how popular he was. I did manage to sneak into his queue at some point a long time ago, and shortly after that, he got a professional gig that consumed all of his time. Recently, he made a pact with his commissioners to stream almost every night, working on commission after commission, until they were all done. I rarely have the chance to watch streams of my own commissions, but timing was fortunate for this one, and I got to watch most of the sessions. :)When I first proposed a commission to Showkaizer, I gave him a cornucopia of ideas. I was on a bit of a sequel kick at the time (sequels/prequels to other commissions that have been done), and Showkaizer actually came up with this great idea. It's a sequel to Studious Aram, by jc, where Aram was practicing calligraphy. The Chinese characters are from an ancient Chinese poem, but the meaning is hard for even a native reader to glean. I believe it was Showkaizer who suggested that maybe they were the key to an ancient ritual designed to unlock the monk's power. And in this case, it was Aram's growth power that was unleashed, apparently. What fun for us to watch! What terror for Aram, since her sensei is probably going to make her rebuild the temple.
We did get permission from JC to reference the background/building she began in the linked picture. And she provided us the transparent version of the Chinese characters she used, but Show ended up not needing them.
Show was a pleasure to deal with, even with the long wait. It's proof positive that it pays to be patient, especially with artists who are This Friggin' Good! I severely hope he opens for commissions some day, for I have a bounty of concepts that would so nicely benefit from his treatment. But he has quite the queue to work through yet, and he has a pro gig (which he sorely deserves!), so I'm not holding my breath. But I am. A little. ;)
