This is a song I started writing about a year ago, following Daryil's ascension to tri-winged leader status in Project Future. Just within the last month or so did I manage to work out the verses and other stuff to convert the chorus and other scattered ideas into a proper song. Once again I got a harpsichord solo while playing Doom. I don't know why that sometimes happens but I'm glad it does.
This song was the first where I tested out my new BBD chorus pedal, which I've used on the chorus and the bridge verses.
Some of the more experimental things involved the radiophonic choir at the end (varispeeded tape loops of me going 'aaaaaaaaa' ) and the chorus where I filtered the high end on the left and the bass on the right. I'm still not sure that was a good idea.
Recording was done on the MSR-24, with the vocals tracked to the TSR-8 and then dubbed onto the bigger machine for mixdown. Mixdown was done onto the A807 deck as usual.
Flubs in the mix included not turning the wurtlizer up during the final parts of the song (it suddenly kicks in), not including the tape snatch at the start of the radiophonic choir, and some slight clipping on the last verse.
I'm sure there's something else I should have added, but I need sleep. I'll add it in the morning if I remember.
And remember, it IS the dawning of the Age of Daryil.
Blank page, a new chapter in the book
New age, foundations that my actions have shook
My win - the first in several thousand years
My sin - by rights it should have ended in tears
This is the dawning of the Age of Daryil
This is the dawning of the Age of Daryil
New power, I'll do my best to use it for good
This hour, there's so much I have not understood
A New Way - no matter where my children roam
A New Day - our race is going to find our way home
This is the dawning of the Age of Daryil
This is the dawning of the Age of Daryil
All of us are evil in our own distinctive ways
Some more so than others but the final total stays
If evil is a constant then we need more folks alive
To spread it out more thinly (and appease our mating drive)
This is the dawning of the Age of Daryil
This is the dawning of the Age of Daryil

Blind rage, some others leaders think I'm a crook
Take heart - ascending didn't harm a soul
New start - The time has come to make my clan whole
This is the dawning of the Age of Daryil

The mellotron (mk2 strings and m400 choir) are from the Mike Pinder sample set, with a little reverb added. I've kept them to the original length (i.e. no looping). The playback software is something I wrote myself that talks directly to the soundcard since I couldn't get any off-the-shelf softsynths to play nice.
There are three basslines, a JV1010 finger bass (one day I'll learn to play a real bass, one day...).
Track 2 is the 'VCO Oct' patch on a Roland MVS-1 (I believe it's also on the JVxx Vintage Synth card). It has this lovely texture to it which I use pretty extensively. That's probably the one you mean. I haven't been able to replicate it on an analogue or modelling synth...
Finally, there's a small amount of Minimax bass, near the end if I remember right.
Most other sounds were provided by a Triton Extreme, and I use a Hammond XM-1 for the organ.
