How are you getting the shading then? And how are you doing things like the eyes and the nose?
I cannot figure out soft shading on Photoshop, although, it looks like you possibly just layered different shades of color for things like the nose and stuff....
And how small of a brush are you using for the fur? 1 pixel?
And then I remember someone saying something once about drawing an undercoat, and I have no idea what to think of drawing when drawing and undercoat. I'm guessing that it's darker... Bah... I'm sorry for troubling you about this and your awesome artwork. D:

okay, shading is done by leaving more or less space in the hatching :) eyes and nose I just-paint o.O many colors next to each other (blues, browns, yellows, umber for nose) eyes I never draw the pupil pure black but a few shades of blue and add a rim in brown around it. A pupil should never be totally round and smooth in the edges.
Soft shading in general works with the eyedropper tool, you have to keep eyedropping the color from dark to light and light to dark to get good transition http://browse.deviantart.com/?qh=&a.....orial#/d1i55ag here is a very good tutorial on basic blending.
Undercoat is often the base colors blended together with a hint of fur direction, it saves you hatching ;D *only wip I have to give you a idea is this http://www.furaffinity.net/full/7112252/ *
I hope that helped a little^^
