I heard that it just signified 'the end of an age' so to speak. Apparently past 'ends of era' predictions had guessed the end of the roman empire etc...

So I don't think it was ever the end of the world... also... people didn't take into account adapting their calendar to ours... so the conspiracy date is actually out by... a lot XD

Te closest we have come to the end of the world was during the cold war. The USA has a think called the dooms day clock which basically is a rough estimate of the time untill the launching of ICBMs ending the world. If im correct the clock made it to about 17 minutes untill the end of humanity. Its scary think with the technology and effectiveness of the ICBMs in the 1980s only 9 would be needed to cause planet wide nuclear fallout killing every living thing on Earth. You also only we about a pint of VX nerve gas to kill every living thing in New York city and most likley more.
