Note: Since a lot of you seem to be complaining about it, I feel that it is necessary to say that this game attempts to model realism. If your character seems to be losing weight, despite your best efforts, check to make sure that your metabolism isn't too high (over 250-300 kcal per hour is high), and that your digestion rate isn't too low (under 0.30-0.50 pounds per hour is low). Also, what you eat makes a difference. If you eat something that is large that only gives you a few calories (e.g. lean meat) you'll most likely either break even or lose weight. This is not a bug, this is how the game was built.

If for whatever reason the link above 404's on you, that either means I'm currently updating the file OR I've exceeded my bandwidth. As such, I implore you to only download once a day. Dropbox only gives me 10GB a day and while that sounds huge, it can dissipate fairly quickly.

Since it runs on Java, you naturally need to go download it before this will work. If it doesn't run and you have Java installed, make sure the version of Java that you have is the most current one. If you've done all that and it still doesn't work, then refer to the bottom of this description for debugging information.

Since this game generates a Data folder for save information, it is suggested that you place the jar file in its own folder. Once you start the jar, it is STRONGLY SUGGESTED that you do not move and or delete the generated Data folder. This will cause the loss of your save and your ability to save. If you do accidentally delete it, the game will always generate one on start up if it isn't there.

New bug fix released. Feel free to download the new version.

September 2nd, 2012 (05:44)
Alright, new release tonight. That god damn map took forever, especially since it just decided to break right before releasing this update. ;-;. Also, you'll probably need to start a new character.

If you're disappointed that a change was not made in this release, please feel free to remind me, as it gets hard to remember everything posted here. Also, probably going to submit a new submission as this page is...getting pretty full of comments. Alright, goodnight!

August 26th, 2012 (6:00)

New bug fix released. Feel free to download the new version.

August 26th, 2012 (1:50)

Alright, its finally here, the dev link I promised. Now, if you refer to the change log down below, you'll notice it doesn't have...nearly what I said I was going to try and accomplish this weekend, but some features (I'M LOOKING AT YOU NATURAL HUNGER EFFECT) took longer than expected to implement. However, I am quite pleased with what I've accomplished.

That being said, the current release is in debug mode. I did this so that you, the user, can explore all the currently implemented features of the game, which is a grand total of 1 event and a handful of items. However, while this might not seem like a lot, each item and event responds differently depending on your body metrics, so I encourage you to explore them.

Also, as the game is in debug mode, the files it generates for your character are in plain text, but please don't go mucking around in there. While it most likely won't cause any overt problems, it could make the save unstable or fail to load. If you do this and wonder why the game won't work...well, you don't need to be playing games.

Other than that, I ask that you have fun and to feel free to post any comments listing bugs or typos, as I'm sure there will be quite a few. Thanks!

========= CHANGE LOG =========

-Weight Gain RPG Text Adventure Dev 0.33.1 Change Log
*Fixed effects not reloading correctly.
*Dialed down temperature change in biomes. Your core temperature will only change if the ambient temperature is below 70 or above 98.6. Note that it does get colder at night, more so in biomes like the desert and oasis.

-Weight Gain RPG Text Adventure Dev 0.33 Change Log
*Fixed various typos
*Fixed the map/movement system so that going north actually sends you north, and so on.
*Added group lock and unlock.

*Fixed mushroom effect not loading correctly.

-Weight Gain RPG Text Adventure Dev 0.32 Change Log

*Added discard all items feature.
*Fixed a ton of typos, thank you very much for pointing those out.
*Fixed the mystery potion. All potion effects have equal chance now, except for the chance of the potion being a dud.
*Fixed greed increases. It should be much easier to gain greed now.
*Changed how stomach stretch is computed. Your stomach now stretches in "real time" rather than after each meal.

========= DEBUGGING =========

If your game is not working for some reason, and you've tried everything I've suggested, then what you need to do is run the jar file through the command prompt or console. Google how to access this for your respective operating systems. Once you're there, change to the directory containing the jar file. The command you'll need to launch it from the console will look something like

java -jar <JARNAME>

Where <JARNAME> is the name of the jar file. If it says that java is not a recognized command, then you need to either install java (which means you shouldn't even be reading this) or that you need to set the path variable to java's bin folder. Google how to do this.

If the command works, keep the console open and read what it generates. If it starts talking about Exceptions and whatnot, copy that (right click and copy, do NOT use Ctrl+C in the command prompt, as this does not copy) and send me a note with it in it. I'll try to see what's wrong, but I cannot guarantee I can fix it.

If you have any legitimate, non-Googleable questions, please feel free to ask, but do try to answer simple questions on your own. I'll try to be patient, but if you don't try, I won't either.

  This looks interesting........ *dnwoload*

Hah, well right now its still in development, so there's not much there. But stick around, because this is only just the beginning. :3

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

  1) Have user start with tinderbox/armor/other items. That way when you 'forage' for food you don't have three million panties and tinder boxes.

Erm That's about it

  vilified

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Make note of the description that the game is in debug mode. In future releases, foraging for food will begin an actual event, not just putting random items into your inventory.

  summercat

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

I know that much, I am refering for the testing. Have a setup event or something that gives you the stuff.

  vilified

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Aye, yes. A good idea. The only reason I keep giving them to you is that their stats are randomly generated. I'll probably actually create a debug window where you can select what item you want to generate, to avoid this issue in future updates. Sorry of the misunderstanding! ^_^

  summercat

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

  Well

The meat and stuff? That's fine to generate randomly.

But

BUT

The tinder and the bras and crap? No need?

  vilified

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

There's actually two types of tinder box, just one is insanely rare. Furthermore, each tinder box has a random weight and number of uses. The bra and pants have random sizes and weights. Its just for added realism that everything is random in the game, because things in real life are never quite the same.

  summercat

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

I think you should switch to 'perma indev' versions of those, and wait until the foraging code is done before you reimpliment them

Oh I already knew that. Strings in code are notoriously hard to catch typos in, and I'm not careful anyways. =P

If any of the text is just horribly screwed up, please either send me a note or post it here so I can fix it. Thanks! ^_^

Nothing downloads or starts to download i only end up at a blank page that says "Welcome to nginx!" and than nothing happens, is something wrong?

  vilified

I can download it just fine, and it seems like others can too. I'm not sure what you are doing. I would suggest googling the message and seeing if other people have that problem.

Hmm strange as heck for some reason NOW it decides to download it weird. Oh well regardless now it downloaded and going to try it out now ^^

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Glad you...got that straightened out? O.o I was afraid that I had somehow exceeded my allowed bandwidth for the day when you said that. =P Anyways, hope you enjoy it. Remember it is a dev release, so things won't necessarily always make sense.

So.. Something isn't quite right. When i do the consume challenge, I can only click on chew once, except for extremely rare occasions. After participating in 1 consume challenge, the game's process utilizes the maximum amount of CPU available to it (making the game get super laggy). I'm going to try reinstalling java.

  frenotx

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

That seemed to do the trick. How odd.

  vilified

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Strange. Its hard for me to test performance on my computer, given that its so fast. Also, the amount that you swallow with each chew is related to your stomach size. I know that isn't at all how it works, but for now that was the only way I could scale the game. So it might be that you are eating small food with a large stomach capacity.

Hah, indeed. Adding new species in the game takes a bit of time due to the shear amount of information that is contain in each one, but yes, more species are definitely coming. And I'd be more than happy to take any event/writing help. ^_^

  I'm tricky like that!

  fursforlife

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

It downloaded perfectly fine. I went to open the jar with Java, it flashed up on screen for a spli-second, then disappeared. I tried what you said to do with Command prompt, but it just complained that my syntax was off. I have tried multiple variations on the command to run it, and nothing has worked. Not sure if this is a bug, or just my computer.

  vilified

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

What exactly are you putting in the command prompt and what exactly is it telling you?

  fursforlife

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

It was stating that the syntax was incorrect. I put in what you said to put in, what the java site said to put in, which was the same, actually, and I tried putting run in front of it. But It works now.

  fursforlife

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

I fixed it. I just had to set the default program to Java rather than Seven-zip. Doesn't do that for Minecraft, so why this in particular?

  vilified

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Minecraft has a launcher .exe. This is just a jar file which is, in fact, just a zip file of java classes. So it does make sense, even if its only a little.

  fursforlife

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

While I'm at it, (Thanks for the help) how do you get rid of food poisoning?

  vilified

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Currently, you simply have to wait it off. Cooking the meat with the tinderbox will keep you from getting poisoned.

  fursforlife

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

  Thank you.

  madagascar

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

I definitely feels like you should change greed up a bit. Maybe include another way to get more of it, because eventually your stomach capacity increases fast enough to the point that it's impossible, or at least improbable, to increase your greed level.

  madagascar

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

I'm... not very good at English right now...

  vilified

You're right, fixing that at the moment, about to release 0.31 with that, hopefully, balanced a little.

"*As you swallow down the clear liquid, you suddenly feel weaker. Looking down at your arms and legs, you notice them deflate slightly, as if they were losing muscle mass. Your legs shake slightly under your weight. The potion has made you weaker!

*Your strength decreased by 0."

My strength is at 11. Not sure if this is a thing or if I'm just at the minimum strength.

  vilified

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Nah, its just that it generates a random number that, sometimes, equals 0. Future updates will remove silly messages like that. Minimum strength is, in fact, 0.

  vilified

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Alright, that should be fixed now, along with the greed and stomach stretch nonsense.

  tagmer

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

well i noticed that that if you try and equip pants when your fat is at zero it will fail equip saying your too fat...

  vilified

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Yeah, dangling else statement on the code that decides what to say, always defaults to the "too fat" option. Meant to fix that earlier. The bra object will do the same thing. Thanks for catching it!

  frenotx

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

One thing I've noticed is that the "Forage" command causes your metabolism to increase by quite a bit. What's up with that?

  vilified

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Your metabolism is affected by how much you are carrying, along with many other things. So when you forage and gather the test items, the added weight causes your metabolism to increase. Of course, getting rid of those items will reduce it back down to what it used to be.

  tagmer

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

well thats just downright annoying... no wonder i was having so much trouble gaining weight...

bah... i eat over 20000 calories and i only put on 5 pounds with a metabolism of 166.something

  vilified

That's about right. In reality, 20,000 kcal == 5.55 lbs of fat, as one pound of fat is 3,600 kcals.

  senelgold

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

I'm really interested to see... well a lot of things you'll be adding! Seeing MP implies that we'll be seeing some sort of magic at some point, and seeing the greediness stat makes me think that there will be a lot of moral decisions, like whether to eat a mythical fruit for a quest for yourself or to actually turn it in for the reward. Also I like all the details on your weight, the many descriptions of how your fat looks and fits in clothes, and the many different outcomes of the event with your weight. After the bug fix I don't really see anything that hasn't been said. All in all I can't wait for future updates!

  vilified

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Thanks! Yes, there will be a somewhat elaborate magic system I'll be adding probably closer to version 0.6. And yes, greed will certainly affect such things. Very perceptive :3

Also, glad you liked it, and I'll be sure to update as soon as possible ^_^

  senelgold

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

I'm a perceptive guy! By elaborate, do you mean something along the lines of, maybe, magic that affects weight? This might be only me, but I think it'd be kinda cool if you had that type of magic and perhaps a type of party or relationship system, which would then let you fatten your party members/mate.

Take your time with updates, we can wait if we must! I may not understand all the work that goes into developing a game like this, but I do understand that it's a lot of work!

  senelgold

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Oh I got another idea, I'm pretty full of them! I bet at one point you'll add events that are easier to do when fat, but what about having to be a certain size to even enter certain places? Maybe there's a town full of fat people that don't trust skinny people or something!

  vilified

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Aye. Once I have all the base work down, I'll probably open up fully to suggestions from users for events, like noone has done with his game. Not only will that help bring in some diversity in the game's events, but it'll also make events involving vore or inflation (which I'm not really into) more...tantalizing?

  senelgold

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Yeah sorry, I'll hold off on doing things like that until you're ready. When you're ready though then expect a lot from me. :3

  tagmer

  queen-34

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

I'm sure there will be soon. o:

  vilified

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Indeed. The event is there mostly to show how things change as you gain weight. All events will have more or less the same basic dynamic. Future updates will certainly have more events =P

  sharkfang

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Ad with dragons, whouldn't they get the option, if their strength is high enough, to save themselves from falling with their wings? x3

  tagmer

do the words too fat to fly mean anything?

  sharkfang

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Dude, I said IF YOUR STRENGTH IS HIGH ENOUGH. Read the whole thing next time xP

  vilified

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

That is a valid point. Granted, the code does currently have support for wings, just nothing in the game reflects it yet. Flight will definitely be added in a future update.

  sharkfang

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Yay! Helpful! And be sure to have Panda as a playable species x3

  vilified

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Indeed sir, there'll be many more playable species in later updates.

  sharkfang

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Yay! And make it possible for a male to wear a bra when he becomes fat enough to have his moobs held by them x3

  queen-34

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Also, spelling error. Just saying. Upon consumption of a Mystery Potion, it can increase your stomach capacity and it says "you suddenly feel hungrier, as if you stomach has become empty".

Just pointing it out. o.o

  vilified

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Thanks. Oh, and please feel free to point out any other spelling errors. Its hard for me to catch them while I'm coding.

  rizathecharizard

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

More of a code oddity than a standard bug, I think but:

Right, so I have a character that's gotten pretty short thanks to a few mystery potions. As a result, she's at a pretty high BFP (38.4%) while only 137.63 pounds in weight. Even though this weight is in general pretty light, it seems to cause a "bridge that looks very sturdy" (or any bridge that appears to be in good condition) to give the "nearly breaking under your weight" situational response. Are the event's possible outcomes tied specifically to BFP rather than weight?

  vilified

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

The bridge event is actually tied to both. BFP affects the descriptions (hence the slightly discrepancy in descriptions), your weight affects how "sturdy" the bridge is. What is actually happening is that the bridge has a randomly generated weight it can support, which is then compared to your weight, coupled with your BFP, to generate a description. The fact that its saying its "about to break" is I got lazy with the description strings. Thanks for pointing that out, though. I'll make sure to smooth that over in the next update.

  kaptainkq

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Alright, played for about... An hour and a half, it looks like. The game certainly has promise. I've enjoyed what I've played so far, if not a little bit frustrated by it. By the end of my session, I was 3 feet tall and absolutely incapable of putting on weight.

The mystery potions really don't like me.

  vilified

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Haha. Yeah, they can be a bit of a pain. Naturally, the negative effects are more common than the ones I know people would be after (i.e. weight gain). For now, what you can do is simply load when you get a negative effect. In a few updates, however, the game will autosave after you eat so that you can't just keep going until you get something you want.

  kaptainkq

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

  ... I didn't think of that. Hmmm.

Also, yes, that's understandable. I think I remember you saying that one will eventually be able to learn the differences between potions. Is that true? If every potion is a crapshoot where the house almost ALWAYS wins, I might just end up avoiding them entirely.

  vilified

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Nah, that's just true with the mystery potions and certain foods. Other potions will have a definite effect that you can see in the description. The thing about mystery potions is that their effect is determined only once you consume all of it. So not even the game knows what it is until you drink it.

  kaptainkq

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

  Good to hear.

  madagascar

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

The only problem I see "autosave after consume" having is when you get a poisonous mystery potion. Do you have a workaround for that?

  vilified

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

It'll check to make sure an item hasn't killed you before saving. Nothing that'll require a huge amount of code, at least.

  madagascar

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Yeah, but it'll give them another chance at a mystery potion.

  madagascar

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Suggestion: Allow right-click to be used during the consume minigame. Maybe allow keys also, but that might be too easy?

  vilified

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Java's buttons don't really like the right mouse, but I'll look into it. I'll also look into hotkeys too. I can detect if they are just being held down or actually being pushed.

  madagascar

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Also: option to discard things in bulk.

  vilified

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

That's a little bit more difficult, given how the inventory is managed. What could be done is that you could discard all, say, raw meat or even all food at once. But items that do not group would take some effort to bulk discard.

  madagascar

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

I definitely just meant the ability to discard a lot of the same item at once. It's a pain having to manually discard all of these salt packets one by one. If you do implement that you should be sure you can't accidentally discard anything you've got equipped.

  vilified

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Yep, that's no problem. Consider it added.

  madagascar

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Immobility hasn't really been implemented yet, but I found a way. I don't know if you intended it, but the mystery potions increase your weight *more* when you're heavier. Enough that I managed to get to 2,000 pounds and have little enough strength that even all of my SP couldn't move me an inch.

You've also got a few status effects for extreme starvation, but do you plan on ever adding consistent deteriorating health (into death) to those? Right now it's extremely easy to drop your greed to nothing or unimmobilize yourself by just waiting endlessly.

  vilified

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

The mystery potion scales according the stat it is affecting. In the same way you gain more weight the fatter you are, you'll gain more strength the stronger you are. In a few updates, the mystery potion will, for one, be much rarer and, for two, save the game after you consume it. That means it'll be much more of a gamble to use it to gain weight, as there's only a 1 in 50 chance that the weigh gain event is triggered.

Immobilization isn't implemented, no, but it will be in updates further down the road. I figure in the lower tiers of immobilization, there'll be a mini game you can play to attempt to move to the next cell which would, of course, get harder the heavier you got until it was basically impossible. Also, immobilization will open up new events and such, so that the game doesn't just end when you've gotten too big.

And starvation is actually supposed to kill you, but sleeping recovers the HP you would have lost due to starving. I was going to fix that before the release, but ran out of time.

  fattylardydragon

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Keeps saying im Skeletal. Im all like. Nope.avi

  vilified

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Create a new character. If that doesn't fix it, something more serious is going on.

  nolanbear

How about a beneficial potion? I bet I went through 30 different "mystery potions" and they all do negative stuff. Make you lose weight, shrink you or decrease health or stomach capacity. For a wgrp there aren't many uses for those. Some negatives would make it interesting but more useful potions would be better IMO.

  vilified

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Then...you were incredibly unlucky. Almost every negative effect has a positive counterpart. Also, the mystery potion will soon be one of many different types of potions, including ones you can brew yourself.

Trust me, they give you positive effects too. It's just extremely rare, is all.

  jerkajerk

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Can't wait to see them! The only thing I can really say right now is it seems a bit too difficult to gain quickly, although I'm sure noone's game has spoiled me too much. It just seems like if I'm eating nothing but strips of fat I should be able to gain more than 2 pounds in like, 30 minutes of real time clicking. But I'm sure you'll be able to get that all balanced out soon enough c:

  vilified

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

It might be that your digestion rate is low. In order to gain weight more quickly, you need to get a character with a high digestion rate, low metabolism, and of course high stomach capacity.

  jerkajerk

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

I took your advice and was able to get up to 280ish pounds.

Few things:

-Your descriptions and writing skills are amazing. The game feels and plays like a professionally done game.
-Your multiple descriptions are awesome and keep things fresh.
-I enjoy the multiple factors counting towards expansion rates.
-The expansion of breasts seems much higher than waist expansion, not sure if that was intentional, but I went through 5 bras before I broke my first pair of pants.
-Potions have the ability to quickly change weight stats in ridiculous ways (I'm assuming they scale based on weight, since I was losing 60-70 pounds on them towards the end)

But I'm seriously in love with this. I can't wait for the next update!

  vilified

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

-Thanks, but I do have problems with run-on sentences and typos =P
-Thanks once more. There probably should be more, but it starts getting hard to write so many branches of text.
-Thanks once again, though I can't take all of the credit, as the underlying formulas determining body size were developed by personaomega  personaomega
-Sounds like you had a top heavy body type. The game randomly generates 5 different body types for females (average, bottom heavy, middle heavy, top heavy, and curvy).
-The mystery potion scales according to whatever stat it is affecting. I think there's a 1 in 50 chance of it triggering the weight gain event, so I felt it needed to be considerable.

And I'm glad you liked it!

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Heh, had the opposite problem of jerkajerk, I couldn't fit into any pair of pants, but bras were just fine for a while. Must be different body types. Though, now it's 20 lb. I cup breasts and 55 lb. buttocks.

But, yay for savescumming, having a 866 lb, 48% body fat, 9'1" dragoness with a 68 lb. stomach capacity (though it takes almost three days to digest such a meal). XD I'm guessing your own weight goes into metabolism, because mine's at 528 kcal/hr, despite the several metabolism reductions, and I have an empty inventory.

Speaking of large stomach capacities and tall dragonesses...feature suggestion, albeit partly due to my vore kink which brought me here, live prey. Can't be eating 3 lb. meat cuts at that kind of size, right? ;3 Honestly, I've been editing in 80-120 lb. fatty cuts of meat to imagine such a thing, heh. Though, I imagine if you, say, try to swallow whole, if you quit midway through, you won't get anything, or worse, have struggling prey stuck in your throat to cough up, maybe costing you stamina, HP, or something like that. Or maybe there's a separate throat capacity for that. Maybe have prey with different personalities, ranging from doing anything to get away (which I imagine would be the end most are closer to) to enjoying it, or maybe very, very rarely asking to be eaten by certain -strange- people... XD

Also noticed a rather strange bug. It seems like the bras fit -more- snugly when you get a shrinking potion (I've had bras break when I shrink), and it seems like chest size does nothing to bust the bras, but maybe that last part is just me, as my formerly skinny, slim dragoness had tiny A breasts at first.

Sorry if that's a long post, but my descriptive posts tend to get long and wordy. XD'

  vilified

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

The game generates 4 basic male body types (average, bottom heavy, middle heavy, and top heavy) and 5 basic female body types (all of the male types along with "curvy"), and then randomizes slightly from there.

And yes, weight factors into your metabolism. The heavier you get, the more calories you expend.

Once NPCs are added to the game, you'll have the option to eat them. For normal-sized anthros, this will probably require unlocking through some kind of special event. If ferals ever get thrown back in, they'll have the option if they're large enough. Alas, good job on modding the inventory file and not breaking your save. =P

The bra thing might seem strange, but its not a bug. Rather, it is simply how the game calculates body part sizes. If you're shorter, the fat on your body has fewer places to be distributed, and thus things expand out while you shrink, hence the increase. If the increase effect increased your fat weight as well as your height, proportional to one another, you'd most likely burst out of your clothes.

And, the chest size kind of factors in, but it was odd to write the descriptions for bra strap and cup separately, so I condensed the two measurements into one. The cup size is definitely the more important.

  woahman2

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Planning on adding feral body types?

Also, thanks for the plaintext save files, but two objects (effects, inventory) have no file extension, meaning each time I wanna mess around with them I have to manually select notepad+

  vilified

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

I am planning on it, but it will take some time. Not only will ferals have different body descriptions, but they'll interact with items and events differently. For instance, pants with a feral character...won't really make sense.

The save files will eventually be scrambled, so opening them with anything but the game itself will just give you garbage. I just do this so that you don't get bored with the game because you've already done everything through messing with save files. I may include a debug mode that will save in plaintext instead. Dunno.

  tagmer

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

debug sounds fun, but uh... how exactly did he do it? im curious as to how he fiddled with the save file

  vilified

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

He just opened it with a text editor. All the save information is in plaintext, but I would really advise meddling with the information unless you don't really care about your save or know what you are doing. Any errors generated from doing so are on you.

  draconiclord

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

It isn't too hard to figure out how the save files work. It's actually fun to muck around with them a bit. So much so in fact that I'd even request leaving them as plain text even when you've passed debug mode (If that's possible. Never wrote a Java program so I don't know if that's actually part of it or just something you decide).

In any case, great job so far. I think I've officially spent too much time with this already and I'm still enjoying it. As bare bones as it is, I can already tell there's going to be a lot of breadth to this game of yours. I think all the bugs I noticed have been mentioned already so all I can say is good luck and I'm looking forward to seeing more.

  vilified

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

It is possible, and I may leave in a mode select for debug or normal, in which case normal will generate scrambled save files.

And thanks! I do have some excited content planned for the next few updates, so stay tuned! :3

One too many fattening Mystery Potions left my poor character immobile at 800lbs ie, Insufficient SP to move or forage and with no food on them. I noticed that by starving down, you get heaped with huge penalties that only exacerbate the character's plight (no strength to move!). It's quite sad really.

How would one avoid such a fate in the future? raising strength to cope with the added bulk?

  vilified

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Items in future updates will temporarily increase your strength, while others (like the mystery potion) will do it permanently. Also in future updates, the game will significantly change once you become immobile, opening up new events and actions. Furthermore, I think in the lower tier of "immobility," there'll be an option to attempt to move, calling up a mini game much like the consume challenge, which would get harder the heavier you got.

  microwave

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Cool, glad to see you'll be putting some proper consideration into this aspect. It was pretty funny when it happened admittedly, and it's understandable that such features won't have been implemented yet.

Consider this a cautionary tell for adventurers!

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

I think you should add greed to the possible effects of the mystery potion. Right now, for me anyway, it's becoming increasingly harder to test the effects it has just because of how slowly it increases as compared to how difficult the consume challenge is. I hope I'm just going about this the entirely wrong way, but getting your greed up is extremely frustrating.

  vilified

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Yeah, I really scaled down how quickly it increases (at the same time as I made the consume challenge harder). I'll probably tweak it so that greed increases more quickly. And, yes, that probably should be a mystery potion effect. Forgot to add it =P

  microwave

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Forgive me if this has been explained elsewhere, but what does Greed actually do? When I was starving my Greed stat went down, even though my character was presumably getting more ravenous?

  vilified

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

The higher the greed, after it passes over 80, the more likely you'll be unable to stop eating midway through the consume challenge and the more likely your character will just randomly pull out food from your inventory and start eating it. In the next update, the greed increases from overeating will be increased to reflect the new difficulty of the consume challenge.

I am curious on the vore subject of the game will it be possible to be prey maybe willing prey?

  vilified

I don't see why not. The event structure is exceedingly versatile, so I can basically put in what anyone, or I, want.

  queen-34

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

What exactly causes an increase in Greed?

  vilified

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Exceeding your stomach capacity by, I think, 1.4 times.

  roshen

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

So i'm guessing your characters strength determines how fat he can potentially be? because i got to 65% body fat and he rejected to move even an inch.

  vilified

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Yes. The way SP usage is calculated is, at the moment, somewhat naive. SP Usage per movement is WeightFat/Str, rounded down. In future updates, there'll be more items that increase you STR, as well as events and such that only open up after you become immobile.

Every attempt to get Java to load this file has failed and every attempt to edit it to work correctly has done nothing. I'm reinstalling Java currently in an attempt to make my computer register the files correctly. Why does Java always heve to be so difficult for me to work with?

When I try to open this with javaws it gives me some info. I don't know if any of that would be useful or not, so If you want it then reply to me and I'll get back to you. Though I have a succinct feeling none of this is your fault.

  vilified

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

A few things to check. Make sure you don't have multiple versions of java installed, make sure that the file is being opened with the Java launcher (someone else here was accidentally opening it with 7zip), and if all else fails, uninstall and reinstall Java and restart your computer to make sure that the new install has taken hold.

But, if you have the information, please send it to me. It should tell us what's going on.

My 'open this program by default' refuses to acknowledge any of the java files as things to interact with, I think I may have messed up the registry in my attempts to get java working. Its the only way I can see myself running this any time soon.

While the website was in read only mode I found a another RPG project similair to this one that somehow works using a web browser as well as loaded from a java file. I'm not sure what he did to do that, but that seems to work in that form. Its a shame that I can't get yours to work in a browser, clearly its not built the same way.

  vilified

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

If it works on Java, and is in a browser, he wrote an applet. If I wanted to do that, it would require a significant change to the code, and at the moment that's just not in the cards.

This is incredible quality for the first dev release, Vilified. Definitely worth the wait. Thanks for the contribution, and bravo on its launch day success!

I've been playing with this (editing the data files, too, naughty, right?) for a few hours and you've obviously put a tremendous amount of quality work into this. I am really, really looking forward to seeing what this develops into as time goes on. For now, I just have two suggestions:

1. If more keyboard commands can be implemented for the right-hand menu, that would save a lot of time. It's a pain having to individually click items, click "combine" or "discard" or "whatever," and it'd be a pretty sweet option to just click the item, hit the key, hit the next item, hit the key, etc. This also reduces the chance of accidentally hitting the wrong button, which brings me to

2. There are a few spots where very different buttons are very close to each other, with no two-click protection. Save, Save & Quit, and Quit are bad ones to hit accidentally, as is Discard for items.

I'm curious about the tailoring feature -- is that high on the priority list? Will you be able to have clothes tailored loosely or snugly? Thanks again for the game -- you did not disappoint!

  vilified

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Thanks for the compliments! I really do appreciate them as it does make all of this work well worth it. :D

For your suggestions:

1. That's a great suggestion and one I'll add in future updates. The only issue is that combine still requires some mouse interaction (to select a new item). I'll work on making the entire GUI keyboard controllable, though it might not all get in the next update.

2. Yes, you are right. I tried to move Save, Save & Quit, and Quit away from places you'd accidentally hit, but adding in a "Are You Sure?" option is definitely something I'll do. As for discard, adding in protection might cause annoyance for when you need to delete a lot of things. I could think about moving it (as I have). I had actually been thinking about having a lock system, where you simply lock what you don't want to discard and then hit discard all (at which point having the "are you sure" option would be less annoying).

Tailoring will be added as soon as persistent, dynamic locations are added, the first of which will be towns, in which case yes, I don't see why you couldn't have it tailored to any specification. Furthermore, thinking of adding a feature in which randomly generated clothes might have a 1 in XX chance in fitting exactly to your character. This would be more useful when you got bigger, and tailoring got more expensive. In the mean time, there might be a traveling...tailor? Or, better yet, a field sewing kit item that could make minor adjustments on the leather.

Other than that, thanks for the excellent suggestions and compliments!

Weird things happen when trying to boost greed. Firstly your stomach stretches constantly, making it harder to maintain the 1.4:1 overstuffed ratio for gainig greed. Thankfully it got much easier to swallow things in one go as the stuffing, even when overstuffed, so in the end I was having to gulp down entire blocks of salt in order to eke out more greed. The most I got was 74.48 and a ridiculous stomach of over 100 inches.

The funniest thing though, was when I rested for bit and suddenly I was getting extreme hunger pangs. This is with a stomach at about 50/160lb capacity still 70k calories consumed and a waistline of about 80 inches. I couldn't keep any weight, going down to 0 body fat on and actually started starving, even with a massive stomach! XD I had to eat about 30 pieces of meat just to feel sated again. Crazy!

  vilified

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Hah, wow. Yeah, I dialed greed increases way too far down and, apparently, stomach stretching too far up. I might release an update to fix that, because nothing starts happening until 80 Greed.

The hunger pangs are determined by how large your stomach is. So if you have an incredibly large stomach, you will get hungry, a lot. Of course, obtaining a stomach capacity of 100lbs in the game, when debug mode is disabled, will be very hard. But if you do obtain it, you need only simply switch your meals from pieces of meat to NPCs =P

  madagascar

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Speaking of which, none of the food in your stomach is added to your total weight count, which makes crossing the bridge at 200 + pounds while "skinny" kind of odd.

  vilified

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Odd. I did kind of refactor a lot of the code while I was working, so it is possible that I simply grabbed the wrong weight metric, as there's like five different types that look at different things. To be completely honest, I was thinking of removing the bridge event. I didn't really enjoy making it, I don't enjoy the way it works, and its...just meh all around. The next round of events will actually remind players that this is a WGRPG, not just an RPG with a weight metric.

I've run only into one bug at the moment and thats my core temp. It says its over 5million degrees and i am not affected by it in anyway what so ever.

  vilified

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Good lord, 5 million? Yeah, you won't be right now. There's no effects coded for temperature at the moment. I am curious though, what is your weight? O.o

  roshen

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Well i've been doing extensive testing to see how the game reacts to the change in weight. I originally started around 130 pounds, then i increased to 503 pounds(80% Fat) and then i went i got my weight back down to 125pounds with 1 to 0% body fat. I'm guessing thats what made the game decide to give me over several million degrees. By the way i'm not a fan of weight gain, but i do enjoy the gaming and trying to get a learning/enjoyful experience out of it as well as try to help you with bugs i run in.

  vilified

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Ah, I see. Its dividing by 0. Silly. And if you're not a fan of weight gain, I really appreciate you playing this and implore you to stick around. The game might be a fetish game, but its still a game, and I intend on it to be interesting and fun. ^_^

  roshen

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

I will stick around, i really want to see the out come this game. Its the depth of it thats really grabbing me here. Also i did discover somethings as well.
1)I managed to get the weight gain challenge stuck at a point where it kept making my stomach grow larger for more food so i was able to easily repeat this process over and over with no repercussions. Also i seemed to notice that this did not affect greed in any way either.

2) Str caps off at 19. I started off from a relatively low strength and tried to get it higher through potions, but so far it caps off at 19 and won't continue to go up. I'm not sure if this is intentional but i've been able to make a starting character with 20 Str before so i dont know.

3) There's a slight grammar error when moobs start to form as well. I can't say it exactly since i forgot to right down the quote.

I also have a few suggestions

1) You might want to make the inventory management easier/quicker to use. I find myself with up to 70 pants and bras and having to drop them all one by one.

2) I did some testing with the potions and i find the ration between Positive and negative potions to be to large a gap. I drank 30 potions in a row and most of them had some negative effects so i would just that slightly if i were you so players don't get frustrated with the current mystery potions.

That's all i have to report for now, hope this helps in any way.

  vilified

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

  Thanks! :D

1. Weird, I'll have to look into that. Also, the greed thing was dialed way too far back. Going to fix that for sure.

2. No idea whats up the STR. There shouldn't be a cap. I'll also look into that.

3. Doesn't surprise me. Consider it fixed.

1(O.o). Yep, there'll be a group discard in the next update.

2. That mystery potion will most likely be re-labeled "Lesser Mystery Potion." There'll be tons of potions in the game, including ones you brew yourself. I'll imagine mystery potions will not be used very often, due to the gamble of using them.

Again, thanks for all of the bug watching. It definitely helps make the next updates even better for everyone else! ^_^

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

  Noted and logged.
Oh, and another issue I think(Key word being think) I've caught.
Having to do with potions, and certain effects.
The effect in question being that of reducing one's metabolism. For some reason, it seems to either add to, or completely disregard the subtraction from said metabolism, but only if the quantity by which it was supposed to be reduced exceeds that of a hundred calories or more.
It's rather odd.

  vilified

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

I think its because you've lost all of your base metabolism, and all you have now is what's due to your fat weight and what you're carrying.

  darkblood14

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

For the first version, this is actually pretty good, i have found one small issue though, when the potion decreases your wisdom, sometimes it doesn't show the stat decrease in the text box or the stat screen

also, if i can make a suggestion, add a health counter on the text box screen for when you get the poison random potion, because i got caught off guard entirely when my potion killed me

  vilified

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

I'll be fixing that for the next update.

And adding something like that really isn't feasible without considerable overhauling, as Java's GUI support doesn't really like for you to add a life bar (or anything similar) just straight into a text box. I'll look into making health depletion more obvious in the future.

Thanks for the comments!

I think I ran across a bug. The build descriptor doesn't seem to check for changes to the character's height, at least when growing. A mystery potion made my character taller and changed his build from average to skinny, but it still described the belly as jiggling. For all I know it's just on that edge or something, but it seemed odd.

  vilified

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Its not a bug per se, just how the underlying calculations work. The description of your body (skinny, average, etc.) is based on body fat percentages. Your stomach descriptions are based on how thick the fat is on your stomach. Everything in the descriptions are based on height, body fat weight, lean weight, and fat distributions. So I assure you it updates with the height. So, yeah, its probably just on the edge, a so-called "skinny-fat" person.

  draconiclord

I've got it. It's the infamous carb belly!

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

(I really wish we could just edit comments, at least within a certain timeframe of posting them, lol.)

I see what you're saying about that, and yes it now makes a lot more sense to me in how that gets determined. I wonder if maybe height should factor into those descriptors somehow? Out of curiosity, I got my character to be very tall using mystery potions (and a lot of reloads) to see the results. Honestly, I don't know that this is really much of a problem, but in case you're interested here goes.

Right now my character is 19'10" and described as "heavy" (so not even yet chubby) and his belly is described as swaying "like pendulum made of pure fat." Granted, he's about 5,842 pounds with nearly 1,418 of that being fat, but that works out to about 24.27% body fat.

I made another character and avoided letting their height change for comparison. That one's 5'7". I got him very close to that percentage; he has 24.54% body fat. His description is that his "belly jiggles when he walks or moves and has started to sag slightly."

I'll also give you that the first character is described as having 7.49 inches of fat around his waist while the second only has 2.88 inches. Then again, just using those two characters as examples, I wonder how much 7.49 inches of fat around the middle would matter on someone 19'10" versus 5'7".

Like I said, I'm not even sure this is a problem at all. I just found it curious so I thought I'd share it. It's not like I know anyone who's 19'10" to help me visualize this more directly, lol.

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Ah, actually this is incredibly helpful. What isn't being done (and should be) is that there needs to be a ratio set up between lean waist size and fat thickness, because right now all that is happening is that the game looks at the thickness and generates a description based on that. That being said, its incredibly easy to fix.

Thank you for the diligent debugging! :D

  I have a question.
When you finally add some NPC's, will they each react differently to you depending on your stats?

  vilified

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Yes, most likely. The most important stat when dealing with people is CHR or charisma. Other things (like being extremely overweight, being naked, etc.) will also affect how certain characters respond to you. So, yes, NPCs will react differently based on your stats.

  roshen

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

What stats are used exactly for the bridge event? Cause i find it weird that I'm pretty much successful everytime in crossing the bridge, even though my character is 1309 pounds(90.8% body fat)

  microwave

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Oh the joys of testing, that core temp bug is hilarious! Just to echo Darkblood14s issue, yeah some of the stat affecting potions aren't actually affecting the stats. It might be the case that they are, but then they are not displaying correctly.

Sometimes you'll have, say, the strength reduction potion but it won't include a numeric effect, just the text. Another instance, it would correctly display the intended effect, +1 strength say, but not give yout the point.

Even in this stage, it's still a lot of fun to play, great work Vilified! *pings a burrito your way*

  vilified

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Yes, I might be realizing 0.32 later tonight with fixes for that and the greed issue. And the potion thing isn't actually a bug, its just that the random number generator is rolling a 0. I'll fix it so that that doesn't happen. As to the showing a numeric number and not effecting the stat, I have no clue. I'll look into it.

Thanks!

A really solid start so far! Looking forward to more game-play content ;)

Stuff I'd like to see (sorry if these've already been mentioned, I tried to scan the comments, but there's a lot of them! )
I think someone up above mentioned the option to discard a bunch of one type of item at a time. I'd like to add to that, the ability to cook or salt all of your food at once.
And I wouldn't mind some kind of "Identify" or "Appraise" skill to figure out what all those "mysterious potions" do before testing them. Especially after you've experienced the same one a few times, you'd think you'd eventually be able to recognize it.

  vilified

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Cooking and salting all food items at once is kind of a hard thing to do, due to the fact that you might have certain foods (like ones that have already been cooked or salted before) mixed in with the others. A more complex GUI would be necessary to accomplish that. Discarding all of one type of item will be in the next update. Once debug mode is turned off, you won't be getting in food like that, so it'll be much easier to salt and cook them separately.

As to the mystery potions, their effect isn't determined until you consume them. The game doesn't even know until you do it. Mystery potions are meant to be a gamble. There'll be other potion items in the game that have definite effects, including ones you brew yourself.

Sorry if I seemed a little short in my post, I do appreciate your comments and I'm glad you enjoyed what you've seen thus far. Just, you know, long day ;-;

  docarrol

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Thanks for the reply, and no, you're not coming off short at all.
Would it require a major change to the gui? Because it looks like the cooked and uncooked foods are grouped separately (though the salted and unsalted appear to be lumped.)

Later thoughts:
When I forage, all the action options disappear until I move again. So, for example, I can't forage twice in a row, or forage then rest, or whatever. Not a big problem, but probably not intentional.
Bras - the cups get up to some huge sizes, but I don't think I've seen any chest-band over 24-25, nor does that appear to affect the fit of the bra, no matter how large my chest-measurement gets.

  docarrol

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

My turn to apologize; that wasn't meant to sound argumentative. If food and foraging is about to change, it's a moot point anyway; I was just thinking out loud (well, more like thinking through the keyboard).

  mrhawk

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

As an avid fan-boy I come bearing further news of (What may or may not be) glitches!
Whenever you drink a mystery potion, and end up with the bid of stomach capacity decreasing. For some reason it adds weight to your stomach, even if its empty.
Example: Character had a stomach capacity of 122.6lbs.
Rolled something like minus 18lbs, and even though her stomach had been empty at the time, it resulted in the character supposedly having 122.6lbs/104, or something similar.

  vilified

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Yeah, its not a glitch, just an odd effect. If you read the effect's description, it says you feel like you are full. That effect makes you full at the same time it reduces your stomach capacity. I may remove the secondary effect, as it seems to have confused a few people.

And thanks! I welcome all fan boys. =P

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

I would give a suggestion. I think body fat isn't consumed as long as we et regularly. That's why we get fat. The character just doesn't stop losing weight.

  vilified

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

This'll be fixed when I update. It was a feature I didn't really get to test before release.

  ghost-sparta

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

In fact, I have seen you just have done quite a good system of the metabolism. Although the weight loss is kind of fast, it still gets you to put some effort for getting a fatter character... Also, what is the gold and the misc bag for?

  vilified

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Misc bag is just for items that I don't categorize. There'll be one soon enough. Gold will be for buying items once shops and such are added.

  ghost-sparta

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

BTW, there is a bug that when you get the mystery potion effect to descrease your strength, it doesn't say how many strength points you lost... Also, the sizes in bras don't match the actual size of your breasts, since the character can have a DD cup, but it can't use a 28K bra...

  vilified

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

If you read the description, it should say that the bra is too large. And the other bug is known and will be fixed in the next update. Thanks.

Is it just me, or is it pretty much impossible for your character to gain fat? Which is odd given that it's a weight gain game. No matter how much the character eats, my character's fat never goes up at all and they just waste away.

  deathninja82

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Pretty easy; low metabolism + high calorie intake. Digestion helps speed things up.

Thermogenesis and carry weight affect metabolism, so don't stay somewhere too cold and ditch spare tinderboxes/pants after foraging.

  vilified

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

deathninja82 is correct. What is most likely the case is that your digestion rate is probably too low (less than 0.10 lbs/hr), so your character can't convert the food into calories quick enough. For rapid gains, attempt to get a digestion rate roughly around .50 lbs/hr.

I was thinking for when you make multiple species maybe the species effects what they rare able to consume, i.e. a dragon able to eat raw meat without consequence, where as if it eats vegitation the consume challenge becomes almost impossible

maybe even a favourite food system that lowers the difficulty of the consume challenge if the character likes the food but makes the consume challenge more difficult if the character doesn't like the food

  vilified

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Indeed sir, I had intended to add that when the abilities feature is added. Things like dragons or feral carnivores would have no trouble eating raw meat, and while an anthro dragon would be able to eat vegetables/fruits, a feral one (depending on its type), might not.

As to favorite food, this is a little bit more difficult to implement in a realistic manner, but I'll certainly consider it.

Both excellent suggestions! Thanks.

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

I have found a couple bugs, and some grammar and spelling errors.

When your strength is high enough, and either/both metabolism/body fat is low enough, moving around costs no Stamina points.

The poison effect of Mystery Potion says it is "Poision".

A toned chest is called "tonned".

Yes, I bothered to lose a lot of weight to check things.

  queen-34

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

I remember googling the word "Tonned" because I thought it was an actual word and I was just dumb. XD

  vilified

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Thanks for the spelling checks, but the first one isn't actually a bug. If you have a high enough strength and low enough fat weight, then the game allows you to continue going without resting.

  draconiclord

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

My first character has become massive thanks to a couple mystery potions after he was already pretty big so I decided to try a new game with a female character. I noticed a grammatical error on the description when the character's breasts are on the brink of bursting the bra. The very last line says, "If your breasts get any large, this bra is going to blow," instead of "larger."

I also found something that surprised me so much I wasn't sure if it was a bug or if was an error on my part. I remember coming across a small arboreal forest (I think it took up two spaces in the middle of a grass plain). I don't know if I was in it or the plain when I got it, but after foraging I went to toss my extra tinder boxes and found one was green. I had found a gnomish tinder box. I looked at it and thought, "Sweet, never ending tinder box!" It weighed 8.99 pounds but I decided I was keeping it regardless.

Now this is where I'm not absolutely sure because I saved and left for a bit. I am about 80% I saved with the tinder box and that I never tossed it. When I went back to my game, the gnomish tinder box was gone. I'm pretty sure it's a bug because at one point, either after finding or tossing another, regular tinder box I suddnely had a regular one that weighed 8.99 pounds. I'm assuming that this is either not fully implemented yet or extremely rare, because I've been foraging in and around that forest since and haven't found another one.

  vilified

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Thanks for the typo check, and the problem was that the Tinderbox was only set to load normal tinderboxes. When a tinderbox item is generated, there is a 1 in 300 chance it'll be Gnomish. Where are you are at doesn't affect the chance. The load issue is fixed and will not be present in the next update.

Is there a cap on pants sizes? I've never found anything above 35.98

  mrhawk

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

  I can answer this one.

The concept of a cap, per se, is kind of in effect? If I've studied this correctly, the game is coded in such a way that pants are generated on a variable scale of 27.91 to 38.01(BAsed off my own experience, mind you.) When the game is further updated, with towns and such, you'll be able to go to towns and such to get your articles of clothing tailored.

  vilified

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

The pant size is actually generated according to a diminishing roll, where all generated rolls center around a median value, such that further increases or decreases become less likely the further away they are from the median. As such, its technically possible that pant sizes could be any size, but its not likely.

  Love the new update!

A request though, as I've only just noticed from the comments that there are in fact different body types in the game- is it possible to get an indication of this in the character description? It doesn't need to obviously spelled out (eg, body shape: x) but i would be nice if it was somehow incorporated in the appearance description.

Some examples of phrasing:

"Your ____ body stands at..."

average: "solid"
bottom heavy: "pear shaped" "bell shaped"
middle heavy: "apple shaped" "tubby" "round"
top heavy: "busty" "buxom" "chesty"
curvy: "curvy" "hourglass"

Further description can define changing body shapes, such as being skinny can lead to being "supposedly x" and on the other end of the spectrum "pretty/very/overly/highly/extemely x" etc for increasing weight.

Can something like this be implemented?

  vilified

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

It can easily be implemented, and I agree that it would make the descriptions more interesting. I'll work on adding it in to future updates.

Unfortunately, I've noticed another error! (Sorry.)
Cool water. Everything else is on point, but for some reason its temperature is usually -16, or -17, degrees farenheit.

Unless this is another planet or something, the cool water should be frozen through.

  draconiclord

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Just when I think I'm ready to put this aside for a while... lol

In all seriousness, I've had a blast playing this. Thank you for making it. Given how much you've obviously put into this, I wish I could offer more help than sit here just point out bugs, but I'm a complete novice when it comes to coding. (I can write, but I'm assuming you don't even need extra sources for content at this early stage and it seems like you have a lot planned as it is.)

It could just be me, but it seems like the new map generation process makes a lot of arboreal forest blocks (squares, locations, something?). Other "foresty" blocks seem frequent at least, like taiga. Savannas were sparse, but there were a couple good sized ones. Grass plains seem to have become tiny and uncommon. I tried it a couple times at least and saw this happen. For all I know the seeds have a "base" biome and I just happened to get arboreal forests both times, but just in case I thought I'd mention it.

The only other thing at the moment that I've noticed was when a mushroom gave my character the slowing metabolism effect. In the last line is says "Snaking has never been more dangerous!"

  draconiclord

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Yeah, I think I just happened to get the forests those times.

  vilified

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

The cells of the world are generated based on water and temperature. Each cell is given a random temperature and water value (the further north, the more likely the cell is colder, the further east, the more likely the cell is wetter), and then the map is smoothed. Things like forests and plains are pretty common because they're moderate temperature, moderate water value.

There are also various types of worlds. Some worlds are extremely cold and dry, while others are extremely hot and wet. I think there's about 42 different combinations of world types. Also, each world has 250,000 cells, so biomes can be pretty big, especially near the bottom.

Also, none of this would be possible without players diligently testing and debugging. I appreciate it and glad you enjoy playing.

Also also, typo is fixed. Thanks! ^_^

  draconiclord

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

I don't know if this is even an issue, but my curiosity took me again. I figured it'd make sense if plains were a common biome, but I just didn't seem to see them often. I tried generating twenty different maps and counted how many "grassy plains" cells there were in the world file using Notepad++.

From what I could tell, more moderate maps tend to be dominated by arboreal forests and plains are often sparse, though that wasn't necessarily always the case. Of the twenty, only five had over 500 grassy plains cells and eleven had none. The most I saw was 8,071, which seemed somewhat reasonable. It's a little over 3% of the map. It dropped sharply after that. The next highest number of them was 1,532, which is only about 0.6% of the map.

From what I've seen there are thirteen different biomes, unless I missed any. If the cells were distributed between them evenly they'd each get around 19,230. Again, I'm not sure if this is much of an issue. It was just a moment of curiosity on my part again since, as we'd mentioned, we'd expect plains to be fairly common. I was looking for those primarily for that same reason. I figured I'd share this in case it was relevant at all.

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Egh, I'm sorry I'm double posting, but I felt this one should be it's own comment. I just realized that the strange mushroom effects don't load. So even if you're under the effect of something when you save it will be gone when you load again.

  docarrol

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Good tip, though I'd be surprised if that was intentional, so it'll probably be fixed at some point.

But my question is: how long are the mushroom effects supposed to last? Eating more mushrooms after the first doesn't appear to replace the first effect, or add new effects, so I'm assuming they only non-save way to get rid of it is to wait out some kind of time limit, eventually?

Something that bugs me: How can you have "ripped muscles" and high body fat percentage at the same time? It makes me imagine a fatty with a round gut but sixpack abs on it

I think you should modify the description a bit, maybe at least mentioning they are completely obscured by a thick layer of fat. Although I think the word "ripped"is realy out of place anyway once you get above a certain body fat percentage.

Also: Mushrom Effects disappear after re-loading the save-game.

  vilified

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Indeed. It annoyed me when I was writing the adjectives for muscles, and to be honest I just ran out of ideas. I'll look into fixing that in future updates.

And that is now fixed. I might update a bug fix later this afternoon with that. Emphasis on word might.

  ghost-sparta

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Well, if you think about it, sumos are quite fat, and still, have just enough strength to rip your face out and eat it...

  curvesahead

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Thats different... I don't denny a fat person can be fit and strong, but seeing their muscles (except for a very few areas on males) is impossible, since usually those muscles, no matter how strong and well developed they may be, are somewhere beneath thick layers of fat. :p

Its like those guys who say "If I wasn't fat I would have a six pac!"

  ghost-sparta

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

You have got a point there... The problem would be to match both stats into an accurate description.

  curvesahead

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

I agree, but its not impossible. The character description would need to be reworded slightly and I've already send Vilified my suggestions on that. Of course its up to him if he uses some of it or prefers to keeps what he already has ;)

  curvesahead

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

And one more thing: Thighs seem to be out of proportion, growing much more slowly then the rest of the body, even on pear-shaped bodies.

"Further down, your waist curves out to your 72,1 inch hips and your 125,33 inch, sagging butt. Each butt cheek weighs 85,41 lbs. This connects to your 37,56 inch, thunder thighs. Your thighs are so large and push apart so much that they force you to waddle when you walk."

The fact that you need butt-cheeks which almost weight as much as a person to develop a pair of thunder-thighs doesn't seem right to me

  vilified

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

I'll look into the description handler, the values are probably just dialed back too much. However, the size of the thighs seem to be right to me.

  curvesahead

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

If I was you I would just remove the muscle description once a certain body fat percentage is reached... or you could handle it like this:

Your anthropomorphic body stands at 5'7" tall and weighs in at 151,67 lbs. You are heavy and have weak, barely visible muscles. Your soft neck sports one chin with another chin on its way.

But honestly, I would word most of the character description differently, currently it reads too much like a scientific report imho.

If you give me a chance I could try to work something out for you, then you can decide if you like it or not and take from it whatever suits your need. Would that be ok?

  curvesahead

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Oh and about the thighs: my mistake... I have to add their measurements together... duh! It just confused me a bit that every body part reaches its highest description way before going into extreme weight, but only the thighs kept on updating.

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Currently, the map doesn't accurately reflect your movements. For example, moving to a block of savannah biome that was two blocks above my character on the map required moving to the south-west.

Also, the text log on the left seems to stop auto-scrolling when the "vomit" event occurs.

  vilified

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Yeah, got the rows and columns in the map matrix mixed up. That's now fixed and will be in the next update.

And its possible that you may have moved the scroll bar slightly? If not, Java's text boxes do like to randomly decide to stop auto scrolling from time to time. I'll look into it.

Time for me to start bug testing :U

  deathninja82

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Spend the evening trying to break the game (and on the most part failing, nice code!), noticed a few things though:

- The map's borked, maybe a coordinate mixup?

- Not everything disappears from the GUI when marked for bulk discard. It seems flaged as discarded though, as any other action that refreshes the inventory removes it.

- Typo with poison potion: Wretching" should be "Retching"

- Typo on starvation "...body slowly fail around you..." should be "fails"

Also, is there any point where decimals truncate? Got a dragoness up to 53.6 billion lb today (even more impressive - only an inch tall!), well before then some numbers were just looking a bit silly to 2 d.p. (especially metabolism/measurements).

I'm not sure how easy it is in JAVA as I've only just picked up the language, but is there any scope for changing units as numbers increase? It's fine as it is, but I can imagine the GTS folks will be spamming items to the point where metres are more appropriate for some dimensions.

  vilified

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

-Map is indeed borked. Fixed now, and will be updated later this afternoon.

-Fixed that hopefully.

-Will be fixing that, thanks.

-Same here.

-And good god, how did you do that? Mushrooms? O.o And yes, its very easy to change how many decimals I can display or even the units, so I'll definitely consider adding that feature in future updates.

Thanks! ^_^

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

I just kept foraging at around ~150 lbs until I had 400 or so potions, then did a fair bit of save/reloading until I got some extreme results. Will probably try for the opposite tomorrow if I have an hour to kill.

Speaking of mushrooms, aside from greed losses/gains are they designed to be temporary? Was testing something else alongside them so I couldn't narrow down what was happening.

I have to say this game was pretty amazing when I first played it at v.31, Then all the things you did from v.31 to v.33, I have to say you are doing something truly amazing here, you have a great talent/skill.
Now to move onto info about possible bugs that I hope can help you.

Two things I noticed are as follows, I do not know if either of these were intentional, So I am so sorry if they were.

1.If you eat one mushroom and get your effect from it. Then eat another you can see if you watch your stats that the other mushroom still has its effect, but there is no effect listed past the first one in the (Status -> Effects) menu.

2. Filling your stomach now increases greed easily and is working as intend it seems. But Filling your stomach no longer stretches its size.

I'm very sorry either or both of these were intentional, I hope they helped you. If not Just take a big thank you from me and know you have another supporter.

  madagascar

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

2 was definitely intentional: "*Changed how stomach stretch is computed. Your stomach now stretches in "real time" rather than after each meal."

Your stomach still stretches, just not immediately after a meal. It stretches when you rest while overstuffed.

  effra

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Hmm... I was wondering... If a character becomes twice bigger in size, how you'll calculate his new weight?

  korota

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Heya. Been following this game for a while. It seems pretty darn promising, though I've noticed some weird metabolism stuff going on, though. Every time I forage, my metabolism jumps up by like 10 kcal/hr for no apparent reason. Because of this, the mushroom and potion effects that reduce metabolism don't put a dent in it at all.

  korota

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

In fact, I just drank a potion that says it decreased my metabolism by 55.85 kcal per hour, but it didn't change at all. Something's definitely wrong here. :\

  curvesahead

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Encumbrance effects how many calories you burn. Just dispose of all the trash you don't need and your metabolism goes down. Its true though that once a certain mark is reached your metabolism won't decrease further, but it makes sense there would be a minimum value depending on your body size.

  korota

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Yeah, but it's a magic potion, so I don't think it needs to adhere strictly to realism. A minimum for your metabolism makes sense when you're managing a character's weight/diet 'naturally', but it's more fun to be able to achieve some fantastic results with potion and stuff.

  draconiclord

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

The minimum is 0, in a way, but you'd never see it without looking at the character save file. There are two factors with metabolism: how much weight you're carrying (including your body) like curvesahead mentioned and your character's natural, base metabolism. They get added together to give you the value you see on the screen. Potions can reduce the base metabolism to 0, which is easy because that's a set value, but the other part of it is the result of the game calculating the weight of the character and the items they're carrying. I don't think he couldn't reasonably change the game to allow the base metabolism to go negative since that'd risk actually getting a negative number if the character's body and carried weight dropped enough. So as far as that potion goes we sort of are stuck with a minimum, that being 0 base plus the weight factor.

I imagine it would be possible, and maybe Vilified will take this as a suggestion if he hasn't already got something like this planned, to make a potion (a temporary effect one I imagine) that would reduce the impact of weight on a character, which would in turn also reduce your metabolism. I don't know Java well enough myself to know how easy or difficult it would be to add an effect that would require inserting another operator into the calculation, so I could be talking out my rear there. I mostly mention it to just add to the understanding of why you reach that point where the metabolism goes no lower.

  blyzzarde

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

This has potenial! It's kinda hard to gain weight at the moment but I'm sure that will change.

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Secret to quick weight gain: Low metabolism + high calorie intake.

Digestion helps speed up calorie intake, and thermogenesis and carry weight affect metabolism, so don't stay somewhere too cold and ditch spare tinderboxes, apparel, salt, etc. after foraging.

If you're having a lot of trouble gaining, or is steadily losing weight, then it's possible that your digestion rate is so low that your character can't convert the food into calories quick enough. Somewhere up the board, it was recommended you try to keep a digestion rate roughly around 0.50 lbs/hr for rapid gains.

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Is the map randomly generated or the same for everyone?

I'm curious as to how adding a settlement(s) will be implemented- everyone makes a new character to spawn in town, or given set coordinates for pre-existing characters to trek to?

  vilified

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Maps are randomly generated. Towns, ruins, and other POIs will be randomly generated as well, either by a character happening upon them or from an NPC telling them where it is.

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Hi there, I tried to starve my character and got the mushroom effect for the muscles building up overtime/steps. It worked nicely and all and the effect was still there when I loaded the game after having saved it but my strength score and weight(lean) score and metabolism skyrocketed. The actual amount of metabolism seems to be kept for the calculations though but for the Strength and Weight scores, the text changed. When I reloaded it, the scores went even higher up.

Also, I don't think that a person with 0% bodyfat can actually have more than one chin. Might be an idea of having the body fat in there as a variable to get the displayed result.
Yes, I'm trying to starve my char just out of curiousity.

  vilified

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

The chin thing is probably just something going haywire in the calculations when a zero is put in there.

As to the exponential stats, that has been fixed in 0.33.1.

  ghost-sparta

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

I have seen mushrooms and potions have a diminished effect, because when u use them on the first days, their effect are what they describe, but when u use them later, even though they say something, they don't have the effect they should have... For example, in the first days, my char ate a mushroom and grew from 5'2'' to 10'2'' and 500 lean lbs, and now, it just only grows to 6'2''...

  ghost-sparta

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

BTW, how do clothes work? Because my char had A cup breasts, I tried to make her wear a 25A bra, and says it is too small... Also, being able to forage some bigger clothes would be awesome...

  deathninja82

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Number = girth (how wide the character is) Letter = depth (how far they stick out) so skinny characters need smaller numbers and vice versa, not as hard and fast for cup size, but they're different elements.

This isn't a bug, but, in fact, your stomach becoming less elastic from you not eating enough. Stay stuffed and your stomach will stretch back out.

  kissasta

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

I have! But even when I get my character eat double their capacity (which is down like to .90 pounds now) it wont stretch or give a message that the gorging has stretched their stomach a bit. Just increases greed.

Issue has been fixed in 0.33.1

  nachtwurst

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

I noticed that when typing in your character's name, if you hit the enter key it prevents the character from being created due to an invalid character.

Also, I had an issue where my character died from hypothermia in the desert. What a tragic ending. I figure it had something to do with being in a cold climate for a very long time (I wasn't paying attention to my map.), but the hypothermia remained even when I went into the desert. I couldn't tell you how this happen as it's only happened once so far.

  korota

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Yeah, the temperature management thing is really weird and doesn't seem to work. I've lost body temperature in 90 degree weather. Not sure if the gauge in the middle of the navigation buttons is wrong or it's dependent on the kind of biome you're in or what but it's just kind of annoying to deal with.

  vilified

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

I've made the core temperature less variable in 0.33.1, so it should be less of a pain.

  vilified

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Deserts biomes do get much colder at night, which is most likely what happened. The new update makes it where your temperature doesn't change unless it is greater than 98.6 or less than 70. And even then, your temperature changes much more slowly.

  that-1-guy

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Great game, I look forward to seeing how it comes along. What I noticed after the latest update, though, is that over time my stomach constantly shrinks, the only way to bring it up being to use potions. Also, I noticed that the potion's effect for decreasing the PC's metabolism doesn't go into effect into the character screen after use.

Otherwise you've got a great thing going on here. Good luck to you and best wishes.

  vilified

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

These issues should be fixed now. As to the stomach shrinking, that's supposed to do that. If you don't eat for awhile, your stomach begins to shrink. You can stretch it back out by overeating.

  nachtwurst

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

I actually just compiled a bug report while playing today. Sorry if anything is repeated on the comments somewhere or if I'm repeating things that are supposed to happen. This is just what I found while playing.

(strength potion +) Thighes should be Thighs

Body shrinking has reverse affects on bra.

Bra reports getting tighter when shrinking
and looser when getting larger.

"*As you swallow down the clear liquid, you suddenly feel like the world around you is getting bigger. Its at this point you realize the potion has caused you to shrink! Hopefully nothing steps on you!

*Your leather bra has gotten tighter. Looks like either you're still a growing girl, or you've been packing on the pounds."

"*As you swallow down the clear liquid, you notice the ground seems to be getting further away. Dropping the bottle in surprise, you notice your entire body is growing bigger. Not only are you getting taller, but your back and tail are getting longer, and your waist is expanding. Its as if the bottle had accelerated your natural growth!

*Your leather bra has loosened up. Maybe you lost some weight?"

Bras don't spawn below A cup

C cups rarely spawn

Pants down spawn above 37.5 inches

.01 extra ounce exists in cooked food items

Changing the stomach capacity removes contents of stomach

Bad math on waist size

"Below, your chest curves in to a 53.59 inch waist (on an empty stomach) sporting a layer of fat 0.49 inches thick. The food in your stomach-stretchingly full stomach causes your belly to stick out an extra 44.91 inches, leaving your total waist at 88.86 inches."

  draconiclord

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

I feel like I'm stepping on his toes at this point, but since he's taking a break I figure maybe we can make life a little easier on him. I'll try helping by replying to those I know or am at least confident about answering. If I am sticking myself in too much Vilified just hit me with a stick or something. Anyway, moving along...

"Body shrinking has reverse affects on bra."

He addressed this in the comments already. When potions change the body size the amount of fat on the character stays the same, so they'll get skinnier as they get taller and fatter as they get shorter. In short, the available fat gets redistributed over the body. So if the character gets taller then there's less fat available for the breasts, which is why the game calculates them as getting smaller. They're getting flatter against the chest as you get taller and fuller as you get shorter. You may get messages about the strap size being too small or too large as your size changes, but I'm not sure that's fully implemented yet.

"Bras don't spawn below A cup"

They do. I saw a AA cup once, which is smaller.

"C cups rarely spawn"

I imagine that was just your luck with those. I had a game where I got a few C cup sized bras not too far apart during foraging. It turns out she had B size breasts at the time. That didn't last though.

"Pants down spawn above 37.5 inches"

I admit I'm less sure since it was never mentioned as far as I can tell, but something tells me he's aware of that at the moment. This is still in development builds so we shouldn't be too surprised by things like that.

"Changing the stomach capacity removes contents of stomach"

That one's also answered in a comments, a couple times. If you read it carefully it's actually an effect of the potion. If the mystery potion increases stomach capacity it also empties the stomach but retains your calorie count, which can allow your character a quick calorie burst. Contrarily, if the mystery potion decreases your stomach capacity it also fills it without adding calories, so it has a sort of "magical diet drink" effect.

  vilified

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Thank you sir. You answered everything well. As to the pants, they generate roughly at 32, with a variance of +/- 5 inches. Future updates will allow them to be bought and tailored to specific sizes.

I can't seem to figure out how to gain weight at all. Eating doesn't raise it, digesting food doesn't either. My weight just seems to perpetually fall

  deathninja82

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

  In = consumption

Out = digestion (lbs) vs. metabolism (kcals)

Easiest way to see it is to roll a char with high digestion (at least .75 lbs/hr) and chow on strips of fat.

Weight and inventory weight both raise metabolism, which raises the calories needed per hour just to not lose weight.

Also, savescumming potions/mushrooms for weightgain doesn't help; it messes up core temp and metabolism down the line.

Experimentation is key.

  finalz

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Understood, but when I'm digesting two days worth of calories in two hours, repeatedly, and am still struggling to gain weight, I think something may be off.

  frenotx

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

So one thing that kinda bugs me- there is no penalty (aside from greed) for stuffing silly amounts of food in your belly. I currently have 75lbs in a 14.95lbs stomach. Due to a mushroom (or several, more likely), my greed is at 563. With greed that high, I feel like I SHOULD fear for the life of my character (as the effect's description imply), but with sufficiently fast clicking speed, there really is no threat. My movement doesn't even seem to be impeded by the fact that I have a belly full of just shy of half my body weight in food. Since my fat is so low, I don't seem to ever have to rest. I just keep walking around, and stuffing my face whenever the auto-consume event happens (which is extremely frequent, as would be expected with 563 greed).

  vilified

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Yes, I have been meaning to factor in weight of food in your stomach with stamina loss. Consider it added.

As to a more severe penalty to stuffing yourself too much, I think that is in order. I mean, everything else in this game attempts, at least, to be fairly realistic. I might as well add it.

On that note, I think there will be two modes to the game. One is the hardcore mode, which is, at the moment default. The game attempts to be realistically hard, making gaining fairly slow. The other mode would remove things like temperature management, food poisoning, etc., as well as decreasing what is needed to gain weight. This is so that both camps of people, those that enjoy realism and those that don't, will hopefully be happy.

  frenotx

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Splitting things out like that is probably a good idea. Stuffing with no penalties / cap isn't nearly as fun as it could be, since it give you no real sense of capacity / fullness. "I just keep throwing food into this bottomless pit" sort of thing. Having some line to ride / flirt with is FAR more entertaining. It would also make greed a lot more interesting.

On that note- you might want to consider making it impossible to quit out of greed-induced consume challenges. As it stands, you can just click "stop eating" as soon as the dialog pops up, and pretend it never happened. It takes a lot of the gravity of the situation away. :P

  vilified

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

  frenotx

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

You should- it's quite enjoyable. :)

  frenotx

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Assuming you do add some sort of dire consequence of overstuffing, I suggest that you add lots of textual alerts as you approach that limit. You should (imo) basically end up with something similar to how clothing destruction works, i.e. text that pops up as you eat- "Your pants are getting tighter. Your pants are extremely tight. Eat any more and your pants will tear. Pants have torn." I'd personally like there to be several more updates than there are for pants, so you can more accurately gauge how close you are, and ride that danger zone. Having lots of warnings of increasing severity also adds to the suspense and excitement, making getting close to that final point a lot more intense.

  lordsteel

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

I know this may have been mentioned before but I think there is a slight bug in the new stomach increase/decrease mechanic. I know it is supposed to get smaller as time goes by that you haven't eaten a lot but for me it just seems to go down no matter what. I started a new game with a capacity of .99 pds a I near constantly over ate and yet the number kept dropping, when I left off it was .79 and this was after I crammed a full 1.2 pounds of meat into it. I am unsure if I am just resting to long or what.

  magicmirror

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

I'm just pointing something out that is not a bug, but should be changed. When your height increases, it still takes the same amount of energy to move a tall average character than a rotund short one. I don't think changing the sp cost to % body fat would work, but maybe you could add a bonus or variable to the calculations to reduce sp cost when moving a tall character that weighs the same as a short character.

  magicmirror

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

An easier way could also be that your sp increases by the same percentage as your characters height does.

I think that the mushroom effect for greed is broken now. The number changes, but the description of the character’s disposition does not. I wasn’t sure if it was just cosmetic or not, but I don’t think there’s any effect since there was a mushroom increasing my character’s greed and yet they never went and grabbed food even as it breached 110.

  that-1-guy

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

To maintain stomach capacity, you have to keep your stomach from getting empty, and keep it overfilled. Resting while stuffed is what makes it go higher, keeping an empty stomach, or even letting it empty, will make it go down.

  ghostblackburn

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

the wired thing is that me stomach capacity still continued to go down.

  me100

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

About the greed thing and having it auto-feed and such, could you consider putting in some sort of check that re-adds the buttons when you're done? Otherwise you have to move, and with 1000+ lb characters, that can be impossible sometimes due to stamina not being enough.

  ghost-sparta

I kind of want to help out with this somehow, but the extent to which I can program basically goes as far as "can copy or modify existing code." I'd still be willing to give it a go if you had some monkey grade things you wanted done.

  vilified

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

At the moment, its probably easier, given my insane schedule, to work on this solo. Once the game reaches alpha status, I can open it up the code to people that want to mess around with it.

  krishonk

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Alright, well, I'll spend some more time playing around with it and maybe even make actual content. If I feel I've done anything noteworthy, I'll let you know, if you want.

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Say, is there any way you'd be willing to release the source files (the .java files)? I'd love to take a look at the coding and see what I could do to mod/work with it. (I'm not spectacular with Java, but I know enough to not break something...usually)

Confession: I tried using a Java decompiler to extract the .java files, but there were several errors, and it'd take me a bit of time to figure out what coding is supposed to go there. It'd be a lot faster if I had the original code. I know that's even more stuff to upload/download, but it would be worth it, in my opinion.

  krishonk

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

I used JDGUI to just get a straight look at the code, and copy-pasted that into .txt files when I played around with it. .java files are the same format, and .class files can just be plugged straight into a .jar using a RAR tool. Probably a bit janky, but it worked for me well enough to modify it a little.

Give me an email address, and I'll email you the source code after I get the map code fixed. ^_^

I have a glitch to report. This game hates me and keeps trying to keep me from putting on weight.

Fix it.

  vilified

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Its not a glitch, the game works on a realistic system. However many calories you gain from digesting food minus your metabolism is converted to fat. Reduce your metabolism, increase your digestion rate, etc.

  scoopicus

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Heh, I was kidding. I was just saying the game keeps throwing things at me that make me lose weight rather than gain it. (Weight loss potion, mushrooms that build muscle, etc)

  vilified

Sorry, on this page I have to be on the defensive. That, and I've been coding in C++ all day, which is enough to put anyone in a bad mood. D:

It's fine. Sarcasm is hard to convey over the internet anyway.

  p1gdude

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

i second Scoopicus's fustration, it seems no matter how much i stuff my dragon, her stomach capacity keeps falling! also i dont know how to raise her digestion rate or lower her motabolizm. every mystery potion or mushroom i use either makes her lose fat, decreases her stomach capacity, or mAkes her shrink.

other than that this game is AWESOME!!!! its just that it would be nice if the potions had labes... but i guess it would defeat the purpous of the game

  vilified

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Usually it helps just to re-roll your character (upon creation) to get one with a better metabolism/digestion. The stomach capacity thing is a bug and will be fixed in the next update. As to the potions/mushrooms, their effects are determined when you eat them. The game doesn't even know what they will do until you use them.

  p1gdude

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

ok i guess that answers my question. dispite the things i was complaining about i have managed to fatten up my dragon to 52.49% body fat!
she weighs 136.54 lbs (71.67Fat/64.87Lean) she's 4ft tall and has a stomach capacity of 0.45lbs matabolism: 368.12, Digestion: 0.38

How about some item which make to know it's edible to consume and how about breads and combine meats all together and eat em' all same time?

But wheres towns or kingdoms? And need some more different clothes.

Thank you for your input. At this time, the programmer who is working for free would very much like to THANK YOU for READING ALL OF THE BUG REPORTS IN ADVANCE. He also respects the fact that you understand that this game is not even remotely near completion and is in fact, in the alpha stages of DEVELOPMENT. #link     Posted: 3 years ago

I'm not sure if this was your intention but i've come to notice that at extremely high STR stats (ex. 150+ str) your characters stamina is no longer affected if their weight in fat isn't to much for them to carry. I was just wondering because even if you're one of the strongest people on earth, you'll still get at least tired from time to time. o-o

The SP usage calculation is naive right now, it'll be fixed in the next update.

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

For the whole Mystery Potion auto-save I read a few posts up, why not just make the effect chosen the moment you pick up the potion? THEN It auto-saves what potion it was so if you re-load you'll get the same exact one every time until it's drunk or discarded.

  vilified

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Because that's not how I wanted it to be coded. The mystery potion is basically just a test item anyways. Once potion making is finished, the mystery potion will either be removed or be extremely rare.

  vilified

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Last week was a killer, so no work was done unfortunately. The new map update is almost finished, and the entity refactoring shouldn't take that long to complete. Right now, the body part code and player specific code is wrapped all up in one class, just going to split them apart to allow for NPC specific code and feral body parts. Once that's complete, going to remove the debug "give me everything now" button and replace it with real foraging events which will return either a static item (i.e. one that is explicitly defined, like raw meat) or a dynamic item that will be specific to your save only. Also, the fishing mini game as well as hunting will be through this forage option, not to mention random encounters and randomly finding new ruins and such. By the same token, towns will have been implemented, as well as abilities and weapons. Other minor changes will include UI update (faster rendering for maps, player options will be in a JTree rather than the 6 button set up, allowing for any number of options per cell, etc.).

Soooooooo, it might take awhile, but I will keep everyone posted and update in shapshots in the mean time, if I can.

I have a few ideas: one add civilization areas so you can actually use the gold you collect and maybe add fast travel areas to make easier access. Two: enemies (that is a given) but involve magic in combat. Would you please? Three: add places you can access with the explore option; like old ruins.

These are all suggestions there is no obligation for you to use them. Except for the one about combat that is a given.
If you want any more just ask!
Bye!

  kaptainkq

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

One: Towns are coming. I don't know how he feels about fast-travel.

Two: He already has a rather complex magic system in mind to be implemented.

Three: I think he said he was going to do away with the conventional "explore" button, but there will be areas to explore.

Just take a look through his journals; you'll get an idea of what he's hoping to accomplish.

Also could you make it a bit easier to gain stamina. Because when you have gained lots of weight it becomes... difficult to do anything.

Faving this, because I'm rather interested in seeing where this goes. If I may ask, was this inspired at all by noone's work. He's doing something almost exactly like this.

  vilified

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

I had actually started working on this a long time ago, just waited to put it up. This is like the fifth iteration of it (by which I mean I have completely scrapped four earlier versions). I forget the user's name though.

I see. I'll have to browse for that one as well. You seem to have quite a bit planned for your next update, so I think I'll wait for that to happen before I actually download it. You seem to get spammed by quite a few people who think they know your work better than you do, so I won't waste time with suggestions and corrections you most likely already know about. But I will say that if this is anything like noone's piece then I'll gladly be looking forward to it. Good luck!

I hope you plan to fix this game to be easier to gain weight, so far it is just.. impossible I only keep losing no matter what I do. :P Oh and whenever I've eaten something, no matter how little or what it is, I keep getting sick or extremely sick by reasons unknown. :P

  nachtwurst

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Plenty of people have gained weight with very little problem. You just have to learn the system. The game itself is okay for what he has up. I'm sure there's still some minor glitches.

You keep getting sick or extremely sick probably because your character rolled a very small stomach capacity. Gain isn't going to happen right away you just have to keep at it.

The metabolism rises and falls a lot. It depends on a lot of factors such as... how much you ate recently, how much inventory you're carrying, how fast it was to start how far you traveled and so on and so forth.

I find it more rewarding to play this game than I do others and can't wait for it to update. Well, I can wait because I have to but you get the idea.

  hexatar

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

I eat only cooked meat, I drink a potion, I drink water, I eat mushroom. No matter what I eat or so or leaves it in a "Feeling fine" level and has not even gotten close to filling the stomach the next time I will try to eat something it randomlly becomes: Sick/extremely sick. (Forcing me to go to sleep.) :P That's why I took it up since just eating seems to make one sick no matter how little or much.

I didn't know of the inventory but I just tried to get it down, my inventory I guess is what filled it up because in less than hour it went from 200 to 500. And this should make it pretty clear I looked at the stats quite often. ^^

The only reason I said this is so I can come back a few months or so later and see he has fixed and made things better. For when I just played and tried it for a few hours as I said previously: Everything made me lose weight even eating by some random reason, I feel like he will have to work on this lose weight system just a tiny bit, maybe not losing weight when you still got food in your stomach? Moving around and losing I can understand but eating? Sleeping with full stomach? That is why I just didn't get how to gain weight in the game since no matter what I did it kept going down. But I guess too much inventory. ^^ So a manual would be appreaciated, but I know he started this just a month ago and it takes time, so I only wanted to give something he might want to consider to fix or others like you could get ideas from to mention. ^^

  hexatar

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Well the problem lies in that you keep losing weight with everything you do, it is faster than your weight gain. xP

  hexatar

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

And lastly: The metabolism rises too fast, no matter what I do it just gets too high in no time. XP

  jerkajerk

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Your metabolism rises with the more stuff you're carrying. Dump all your access stuff. Are you salting or cooking your meat? The game even tells you in the description you'll get sick by eating it raw. If so, then you're just exceeding your stomach capacity. There's an entire sheet of stats that are all very important to look at if you want to gain weight. Essentially you need to eat enough calories to exceed your calories burnt per hour.

  nachtwurst

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

You might want to consider writing a quick How-To-Play manual for the next update. Not that I think most people will read it, but it might help with the slip shod debugging process. Also, when someone blatantly points out known problems you need only direct them to the manual.

  ark-noir

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

I seem to have hit a bug, gonna try a redownload and new character and see if it solves it, but I seem to be having the effects from a mushroom permanently, such as the shrink effect, which lasted until I was so flat, the game apparently thought I was literally paper and spazzed out with the discritpions, saying I had over 6000 chins, several hundred inch wide... well, everything, none of my body parts weighed anything, all while being about 35 lbs total, in which I couldn't even gain weight. Then a new character got the muscle growth effect, but it again didn't stop after several weeks of ingame time, and apparently had no effect on calculations such as stamina loss, it just kept adding lean mass.

I'll post again if a redownload solves this, so you know to somewhat disregard this.

P.S. got a good base game running here, I like.

  ark-noir

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

I think I found the problem, it's like the mushroom effect gets stacked upon when another is eaten, as testing with eating a lot of mushrooms seemed to drag the effect on and on, like eating just one then waiting it out made it wear off after about a day. Not sure if you could look into that, but might be worth taking a look.

  havlock

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

  A couple suggestions:
1. Multiple consumption: Either by SHIFT or CTRL-clicking to highlight, or selecting the group category, or, preferably, both, and pressing the "consume" button. Then the game'll step through the consumption challenge for each item.

2. Fire breath ability for dragons: Eventually it'll be used in combat and other stuff, but right now it could work like the tinderbox for lighting fires to cook things, using a small amount of MP per item instead of tinderbox uses.

And a bug, that might be intentional: When the forage action or greed auto-eat activate, you can't do any more actions without moving in the world; I'd expect at least being able to rest.

You've got the beginnings of a nice game here, Vilified. Thanks for sharing it with us, and keep up the good work!

Hey, it seems that most of the changes are made in the late 100s? I'm sorry but I can't really imagine someone who's like 170 lbs slowly lumbering around and being barely able to move?? Is this intentional or??

  jerkajerk

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Those descriptions are also based off your height. If your character is like, 4' 1", they're going to struggle at 170 pounds.

  romond

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

I was also a girl, which might explain things. (Though H cups in the late 100s is still unlikely)

  oofoof

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Man, I've been having a lotta fun with this game!
In future releases, I think descriptions for arms and feet should be added for completeness, and chest descriptions could be a bit more fleshed out for males. (also, cross-dressing maybe? ehh? ehh?)
Generally, I'd like to see how the relation between fat and muscle affects character description.
I also think it would be interesting for descriptions of bloating/stuffing/whatever to relate to body types. Like, if you're really skinny, mentioning how much it sticks out from your frame, or if you're very lean and muscled, how it rounds off one's abdominal muscles. Very fat characters might feel more than see those effects.
The latter part sounds like it would be ultra complicated. I'm just throwing stuff out there.
Also, for the far future: it might be cool to have to fight your way through larger enemies for huge clothing drops (or maybe just to save money on tailoring), and for areas with larger humanoid enemies to have as large forage-able clothing.

I was just playing around with this for the past... hour or so. x3

First of all, I'm really impressed by the amount of thought you put into this. Yes, it's nowhere near being done, but i can see where some of this may be going, and it's an impressive bunch of features.

I have to admit, however, that I am incredibly frustrated at how difficult it is to actually gain weight. x3 If it was too easy it'd be no fun, of course, but... dang. I know you're trying to simulate how people actually gain weight, as close as you can, but it would be cool to be able to break past SOME of those limitations x3 I dunno. I still admire your attention to detail. :3

Yeah... I sort of have a love hate relationship with the game. What I REALLY want though is an actual update. Y'see, I jump between a few different WG games to counter balance the reality of this one. But none of them have updated in months.

This one is the most likely and my most eagerly awaited game to update.

  rofox

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Yeah. x3 No-one's is cool, but can't wait for updates. This one is very impressive in scope, and I hope he continues with it. ...and helps us find a way to get fatter with at least a little less frustration. x3 Getting fat is kinda easy for me irl, so I guess that could be why I'm so impatient. x//3

  kaptainkq

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

He's planning on eventually making two different "versions" of the game: The current super-realistic styled one, as well as a more relaxed version.

In the meantime: Mystery Potions are your friend... Sort of. You'll probably need to do a lot of save-scumming, but there are a number of effects that you might find helpful. There's a weight-gain effect, which increases your weight by a percentage of your current weight; a anti-metabolism effect, which decreases your metabolism (by a percentage) and makes it more difficult to lose weight; a stomach-expanding effect, which, obviously, expands your stomach capacity; and a digestion effect, increasing your digestion rate and making food turn into fat faster.

  rofox

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Ohhh... that would be an excellent idea, if he does that! Yeah, I had a feeling I was going to have to resort to saving and trying mystery potions. x3 Thanks for the tip. :3

  vilified

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Its a java jar file, equivalent to an executable for the java virtual machine. You don't open it with any web browser, you double click it. If you don't have java installed on your machine, like I point out in the troubleshooting at the top of this page, then it won't work.

And making this a flash program would be more effort than its worth. I would have to completely rewrite the code in actionscript, and then submit myself to the restrictions imposed by flash.

  thequickbluefox

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Then there's the issue of Actionscript being even more of a bag of dicks than Java.
That's a lot. :<

Couldn't resist snarking bad programming languages, but to redeem myself with a srspost: This really does have an incredible amount of potential. I'm half-tempted to offer some proofreading support, to boot, actually. I: Maybe over winter break though, I'm stretched a little thin at the moment.
Ever considered isolating the game's strings in one spot? Maybe even its own Singleton class so that they're -really really- isolated. Conceivably you could then toss just that .java file at any potential proofreaders who understand the basics of Java without breaking/distributing your main program.

Most of the descriptive dialogue is being thrown out in the next update, replaced with graphics instead. Also, having the strings hard coded all in one class kind of violates object-oriented design. However, I might be leaning towards making a simple scripting language so that I, and others, can easily create new dialogue, events, etc. without having to edit the source code.

  thequickbluefox

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Well, the strings have to be hard-coded somewhere, right? :P
I mean for major blocks of dialogue, it may be beneficial to keep them in a centralized location. But if you're disposing of them anyhow and transitioning to a different system of getting dialogue in place, that eliminates the problem even better than my suggestion.

  thequickbluefox

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Pardon, I went full retard earlier, and didn't look further into this point until recently.

What I was more getting at was the idea of putting all your strings within a ResourceBundle, ala http://docs.oracle.com/javase/tutor.....dle/index.html localization practices. That would enable proofreading/translation support by simply sending out plain text files to interested parties. They would not be touching your source code, nor would they necessarily have to know anything at all about Java. Might be a little overkill though, I don't know.

The scripting language may even dovetail with these methodologies, so hopefully this link is a little bit useful anyhow. .-.

I somehow managed to get my character up to a height of 380 feet and accidentally made him have 0% body fat. The usage of weight gain mushrooms and potions are obviously not working to help him get back some weight. His metabolism reached a ludicrous 15+ million mark. Is he doomed to forever be skinny unless I do a mass amount of consume challenges so that he may gain back at least a bit of fat so I can use the potion method again?

  1. My breast size keeps going down. No matter what I do I can't get any weight added there.

2. My stomach capacity is constantly getting smaller (I'm currently at 0.17).

3. My metabolism won't stay down.

4. My digestion rate won't stay up.

5. Can't get out of the desert now matter how far in one direction I go (I've been going north ever since I started playing today and I can't seem to find that mountain range you mentioned above).

6. It keeps mentioning tailoring clothes before they burst (which is no fun XD) but I haven't found a single city or tailor shop to do so. We gonna tailor our own clothes?

7. As mentioned above, when are you going to add ferals?

8. Any plans for holiday related events and/or items? (And not just Christmas, I'm talking about other holidays as well!)

Well, that's everything I can think of at the moment, but other than that I'm really enjoying this game! Sorry about this REALLY, REALLY long post.

  vilified

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

As others have posted on here, main things you need to pay attention to are digestion rate and stomach size, which you want as high as possible.

Stomach size decreases if you don't keep yourself fed.

Metabolism increases if you're carrying more things

Digestion rate shouldn't be decreasing. No clue what's going on there.

The world is randomly generated, and deserts are very common.

No option to tailor.

Ferals are planned for the new, graphical version of this game (see my latest journal for info) that is planned, but no further updates are going to be made for this version.

At the moment, I might release something from Christmas, but the new game will take months of development, so nothing I programmed, probably.

And no problem. Sorry you're having such a hard time in the game.

If Java's installed, it should open .jar files by default unless you have some other program set to do so. Can you give a screencap of the open/save loop?

  chubiness

It tries to open with internet explorer, and when I try to make java the default, none of the applications in the file actually do anything. There's no program actually called java, just a folder. In the folder is a jre7 folder. In that folder is a bin folder and a lib folder. None of these mean anything to me and I just need to know what to use as the default opener.

To those complaining about ever-shrinking stomachs, there is something of a fix: Most of the character save files are stored more or less as plain text. While it goes against the spirit of the game, you can edit your stomach capacity to something closer to normal with a few simple steps:
1. In the folder where the game file is stored, there should be a subfolder named Data. This is where all the character files are stored. On Linux machines, the Data folder may get created in the user's home folder.

2. In that folder, we need to find the character metrics file. The name of the file is generally <name>_character.dat - for example, if your Dragon is named Annie, the file we want is Annie_character.dat

3. Find a way to open the data file. In Windows, you probably won't have an associated program for the filetype; right click the file, choose Open With, and select Notepad or Wordpad. In most Linux-based distros, simply trying to open the file will open it with your default text editor. I can't help with Macs, but any word processor program should open it.

4. Once the file is open, scroll down to Stomach Capacity (line 22). Edit the numbers after the #sign to what you want - for example, if you want 2.2 pounds of stomach capacity, replace whatever your current capacity is with 2.2 and the full line should look something like Stomach Capacity#2.2
(while you can edit other stats too, be careful as mucking around too much, especially with stuff that can't be changed like race/body type can break the save file. Always make a backup before doing anything you're not sure about.)

5. Save and close the file, then reload the character. Your stomach capacity should be updated.

I'm eagerly awaiting the overhauled game, regardless of how many months away it is. It's just a shame that it means an end for the text version. Keep up the good work!

#link     Posted: 3 years ago

Guy's kind of swamped, and I've had this problem before. If it doesn't move any lower, then that's because your metabolism is so catastrophically low, that the only thing left of your metabolism is composed of the weight of the items you're carrying.

Would be nice if you could add some places where you can buy weight gain/loss potions, breast expanding potions, ass expanding potions and ways to inflate your character with. Say like Waterfalls, you could just stand under them and get fatter that way. Other than that, nice text game. With a little more work this might turn out to be awesome. Looking forward for the next release :D

BUG: Hit an interesting unexplained gaining bug. Go to sleep for 5 hours with about 4000 kcal eaten, 2-300 metabolic, S.cap 7 D.rate 9, wake up about 10 pounds heavier repeatedly. Digestion buff shroom in play.

SUGGESTIONS: Could you make greed binges check for positive caloric value? It is really weird having the player character make a big dramatic scene about how they smell food and then go rip into a four pound bag of salt or a bottle of tepid water.

Oh, and salt meat is OP compared to cooked.

Out of curiosity, is there a cheat thing? Just curious, nothing more.

  mungkorn

#link     Posted: 2 years ago

Well, I found that if one were to begin a normal game, then save, one is already on their way to exploiting the game to make oneself as heavy as they want, whether that be brains, brawn, or flab!

After saving, make note of how many calories are in your cooked/salted piece of meat. Then, go into the data folders, find the one with "inventory" in the name and find the meat with that caloric value. It won't necessarily be marked "calories," but it should be the number that matches up with the calorie count from earlier.

Then, to that caloric value, change it. Move the decimal however many spaces you want, but be EXTREMELY careful going above 10 digits, as the game will get confused and turn it into a massive negative value. (How is it possible that food suck the calories out of you like that!?)

  leafykille

#link     Posted: 2 years ago

firstly it is a good game tho lacking in some areas, im aware its only a preliminary test.

after a bit of patient work i managed to get over 99% boddy fat weighing in at over 10,000lb , my thighs are wider than i am tall yet im oddly not immobile, tho i do have a matabolism of over 6000/hour so this size is not sustainable as ill simply run out of food.

this was mostly achieved by geting a large number of potions, saving, drinking a few at a time saving whenever i got an effect i wanted and loading whenever i got an effect i didnt.

cooking food needs to be fixed so it is more calorie efficient per unit weight rather than less calorie efficient per unit weight than salting

it needs to be easier to stretch your stomach, especialy when it is not very big, an easy way to do this would be to have it increase by half the ammount you over fill it by every time you over fill it.

the stamina recovery on a drink needs to be increaced and various features need finishing.
wis needs a purpose as does dex, char, con, mp and gold
some npcs would be nice

item finding needs to become an event, or infact several events and things such as world map should be in your starting invantory along with some cloths that fit you.

as an afterthought it might be nice to make it possible to trade items between characters to allow one to get huge and immobile while another feeds it.

#link     Posted: 2 years ago

It seems more like a "proof of concept" than a game (to be fair, it is an alpha. No major complaints with what's here; it's just not finished). It's a great game engine; I get the impression he was testing out a way to make weight gain semi-realistic before he put in full game content. Hopefully he uses these ideas in the "Heavy Dust" project he's working on (can't wait to see that). I like that it's reasonably realistic and makes gaining weight somewhat of a challenge (other games gaining weight is so easy it doesn't feel like much of an accomplishment). You have to offset your fat weight with some muscle mass and/or stamina or you're going to get stuck. (I love the potions that can reward you with quick weight gain. At higher levels I have to be careful though that I have the str/sta to handle the gain or it's a punishment not a reward!)

He never added in the content that was supposed to keep the game from effectively ending when you became immobile (essentially if your fat weight divided by your strength equals or exceeds your stamina pool, you're immobile; the only cure is to lose weight, or gain strength or stamina, until you can actually move again. If you don't have any potions or mushrooms that can do this for you you're stuck, though you could edit your character or inventory to "cheat" your way out of this condition).

If you'd like to avoid immobility would suggest trying to up your strength and stamina whenever possible. I like to do it early with potions. Managed to get over a ton but could still move!

  nichara

#link     Posted: 2 years ago

BTW formula for it is fat weight / strength = the amount of stamina (SP) it takes to move one square. If you don't have this much stamina available you can't move or forage until you rest to get that much (foraging doesn't consume SP but you can't forage if you don't have at least as much SP as it takes to move one square). If this equals or exceeds your maximum stamina, you're effectively immobile. Immobility can only be cured by losing weight, gaining strength, or gaining stamina until it's possible to move a square.

Not sure if it's constant but it seems you regain about 7.5 SP for every hour you rest (not sure if that's fixed or if it's proportional to your stats).

If you're trying to get very large but want to stay mobile would suggest doing every thing you can to raise your strength and stamina early.
