Stock music written for a student television production. I did this at my new keyboard, which is a very new thing to me since I'm not a pianist and usually write my music down in notated form instead of improvising it. As a result I think this piece is a bit safe, but I like it.
It's not game music but I didn't think it quite fit in the classical section, and there's no category for film/TV music so why not. :)

First of all, I tend to take music I like and fit it to some sort of imaginary sequence in harmony with my current project. I must admit that this piece ranges all over so much that I found it difficult to carry through a single scene, but broken up - or with careful crafting left in one piece - I would definitely use such work in a soundtrack.
I love compositions which change tempo once or twice. Enya's Cursm Perficio is my favorite of her works. I must admit that the recurring note for the midling stage - what is the proper term for the style/tempo changes? - really got on my nerves...
I love contemporary classical. I have not heard much of it or of the old traditional pieces, but the style and instrument range just grabs my imagination...
Cello is one of my favorite instruments that I consider to be "common".
I really liked most of the runs and supporting melodical solos. Some strike me as familiar and others as more original, but overall I liked the whole piece in its entire cohesion.
I am sorry I do not have more free time to listen to all of your uploaded pieces here at FA. I will give them a lot more attention when my project nears the scoring stage, though...

Wow, thanks for all the feedback, that was very helpful!
I love the cello too, I just wrote a piece for one, I'm going to post the recording as soon as it's performed!
That's pretty cool that music effects you so much, sometimes when I work with it alot I sort of get 'numb' to it, I have to work sometimes at just sitting back when I'm not composing and enjoying music without being overly analytical/critical.
Again thanks for all the comments! ^^

You're gonna kill me. This piece doesn't appeal to me as much as the other two of the three in the grouping. I find it's not as dynamic or emotive as the others and fades to a more background filler than something that makes me perk my ears.
On a second listen I think it's because some of the instruments have a very clear 'sample' sound to them and it's a personal bias than something about the track.
I know you like honesty in your feedbacks - I hope you don't mind the occasional critique!

Interesting, tension-laden buildup in this piece. You really know how dissonance should be used. The "undulating" (for lack of a better word) backgorund beat really adds to the effect, especially when the string cadenzas come in. Great to listen to - "contemporary classic" seems to describe the genre rather well.

                    Very, very nice.
I'm composing myself, and am investigating how others do it, to learn.
How did you go about writing and recording this? Is it pure midi? Did you use actual instruments, or a patch, or an external keyboard, or what?
Inquiring minds want to know.
Take a listen to my music, when you get the chance.

Thanks! I will take a listen to your gallery shortly and comment.
I wrote this a bit differently from how I usually work... normally I write my music out in Sibelius, however now that I'm moving into using software synthesizers and using keyboards I'm trying to wean myself off of that a bit. This piece I did on keyboard, I would record maybe 10 or 20 seconds of maybe some percussion or basses and build up like that, then move to the next 10 or 20 seconds... in a couple spots just to get some nice chord progressions I would sketch out the chords first in sibelius or fiddle on the piano sound on my keyboard. Were I a piano player maybe I could have improvised the whole thing on the spot, but I can't really do that at this point so I cheat a bit. ;)
So it's all midi data, using instrument sounds from Logic and Garritan Personal Orchestra. Hope that answers the question!

Wow! That sounds really dramatical. And it actually DID remind me on a specific game music of one of my fav. PC-games Jagged Alliance 2. It had quite a neat, orchestral soundtrack^^
