1-Kill your enemy.
2-If you kill them and their family is so irrational as to refuse to accept their deaths as the result of their horrible karma, and they make themselves your enemy... See 1.
It is a violation of your natural rights to be forced to perish so that your enemy may live. If someone tries to kill you, you get to try to kill them right back! Even the Dalai Lama has said as much.
Forgiveness is necessary to end the cycle of violence, but not at the cost of your life or your rights (unless through action you have forfeit your rights by violating those of another without provocation).

Ah' but the point I'm illustrating isn't whether or not I believe they deserve to be wiped out or not, it's that there is a cycle of violence and it can only be fully broken by coming to terms with the other party. My own feelings on the situation run along the lines of this is an excellent piece of artwork and it has done one thing that artwork should do. It has made people think, and appreciate a unique experience. Granted I'd like to know motive and thought process before slapping a Genocide order. I'm not above or high and mighty enough to believe I can escape the cycle of violence that a situation such as this would create, matter of fact I'd likely be a smear. My point is merely a way of thinking, which you actually outlined rather well save for, even if they come to accept it as bad karma that doesn't mean they have to like you for it and may still consider you an enemy regardless of actions they may or may not take.
You do not discuss things with a virus.
A meteor hurtling through space on a collision course with your home does not care for logic.
Rationality is not of interest to an invader intent on destroying your civilization.
I'm not saying, "Wipe them out." I'm saying, "Kill that which, through your inaction, would kill you." If the entire species decides to make you their enemy, then guess what? If you don't genocide them, they will genocide you.
