A Music Box For Christmas
Okay, based on the feedback I got from the rough draft, here is a more finished version of the song. And based on an idea from
angelbearoh I have renamed it "A Music Box For Christmas". Listen for the sleigh bells at the end.
This is a slightly newer version. Changes the strings slightly, and added a ratchet at the beginning to sound like a music box being wound.
If you aren't using Quicktime to play midi's, or your computer has problems with this midi file, there is an mp3 version of it in Scraps.
Feel free to borrow it, rearrange it, whatever. I would love to hear it improved even more.

Sorry it took so long to get to listening to this XD
I really like the melody, plus the gentleness of it as well, along with the strings and your selection of chords. It's nice when the piano comes in and takes the lead.
It gives me the image of looking up at the sky whilst snow is falling. I'd love to hear what this would sound like when played by real instruments... you've got something quite impressive here :)
Keep up the good work.

You know what I thought of while listening to it? Nobuo Uematsu, composer for the Final Fantasy games. Now, that may sound like a very nerdy comment, but I'm a huge game music buff, and Mr. Uematsu is my hero.
I guess I'm a sucker for soft, simple, emotional piano with background strings, because that made me feel very emotional.
My hat is off to you.

Very nice, I like how it was paced, just as I got used to listening to one instrument on the melody it would change again. And the rubato was a real nice touch, especially in a midi file where the rhythms can so easily get stagnant and rigid. And it reminds me of a music box where it slows down as it runs out of... well whatever it is it runs on.
The melody itself was very nice and simple in a captivating way... there was one rhythm that kept repeating (two pickup eighth notes and a half note), normally that kind of unchanging pattern might sound awkward to my ears but since it was a music box I think it really gave a sound like it was mechanized or automated but still emotional and appealing, so it was really very appropriate!
Good job :)
