---SPOILER ALERTS---
XG-87 is an unknown being who woke up with amnesia in Area 51 in the year 2669 when most of humanity is enslaved by an alien race known as the Skagsh.
(If Player Decides to be a Savior.)
XG-87 is a kind being who cares for all life. He would prefer not to fight anyone or anything, but he realizes that he has no choice. After saving some human rebels from a Skagsh Raider attack, he joins the rebels in their fight against the Skagsh.
(If Player Decides to be a Conquerer.)
After siding with the Skagsh Raiders in capturing the human rebels, XG-87 was taken to the Skagsh Raider leader, named Om-Qua-Jo, who claimed that XG-87 is mean't to be the leader of the Skagsh & overthrow the Skagsh Mastermind, named Lord Kom-Quat. With that being said, XG-87 and the Skagsh Raiders decide to work together to attempt to overthrow Lord Kom-Quat.
(If Player Decides to be a Destroyer.)
After killing the Human Rebels & the Skagsh Raiders, XG-87 feels deep down that he is mean't to eliminate everything on the planet. With that, XG-87 decides to hunt down all the remaining lifeforms on the planet and find a way to blow up the planet!
Abilities:
There are some abilities he needs to remember, but these are the only ones he knows from the start.
-Ranged & Melee Weapons Training
-Hand-To-Hand Combat
-Bio-Language Transceiver (It's the horn on his head. What it does is that when XG-87 is around an intelligent lifeform who is speaking a language he doesn't understand, XG-87 will read the lifeform's dialect so that he'll be able to speak & understand the lifeform's language)
Example: Let's say he doesn't know Spanish yet & a guy who only speaks Spanish talks to him. With the Bio-Language Transceiver, he can read the person's language pattern through the person's mind. Once he is done, he'll be able to speak & understand Spanish.
-Sensitive Hearing
-Night Vision
-Thermal Vision
-Cybernetic Feet (His feet are completely robotic. They are designed to help him be able to travel on foot longer than any living thing on the planet, and quite possibly the universe. They also have a "plasma booster" under the feet which help him jump higher.)
Plans for the Future: If Sweeper Works ever gets into video gaming, I plan to make a video game of XG-87.

To be honest, I have never heard of that series. I just looked it up on wikipedia right after I saw your comment. Though from what I've seen in the pictures of the Guyver units and what I've read, I do not see very many similarities other than the fact that their horns almost look identical. Though other characters had horns similar to that too (such as the Buus from DBZ).
Now I don't know how much info you know on the Guyver series, but if you know as much as I know (like from what I just read in wikipedia), here are some differences I'm going to point out.
For starters, XG-87 isn't armor, nor is he human. In fact, he has no idea what the heck he is. He figures out what he is later on as the player plays the game, but I'm not gonna mention it because I don't want to spoil the surprise.
Also, as a spoiler alert, XG-87 isn't a vanguard of any kind. Especially for alien invaders. If he was, the members of Area 51 would of woke him up during the Skagsh invasion. He also figures out what his original purpose is later on as the player plays the game, but I'm not gonna mention what that purpose is either. All I can say is that he's not a vanguard.
And unless I'm mistaken from what I've seen in pictures of Guyver units, they don't seem to use guns or melee weapons, for they are built into the armor. XG-87 on the other hand doesn't have weapons that are part of his body. He has to use weapons the same way a normal human being has to.
Another difference is the silver piece on the Guyvers' head that is called the "Control Metal". According to wikipedia, if one damages the control metal, the armor eats the user alive killing him. The red object on XG-87's is part of his Bio-Language Transceiver (I haven't came up with a name for that piece yet). It's highly impossible to damage it since it's made of an unbreakable material. But if someone/something does manage to damage it or remove it, all it'll do is mess up the transceiver and makes it difficult for XG-87 to learn a new language from an intelligent lifeform.
And finally, as I explained to psion when he thought that the Fatty Furries was a furry version of Tenchi Muyo, "Sweeper Works doesn't do fan projects. So if there are any similarities with anything, it's completely coincidental."
There's probably other differences I can point out. But since I've never seen the manga, the anime, &/or the movies, I don't know what other differences there would be.
