When he awoke it took a moment for him to realize that he was incapable of movement. A strange weight was on his chest, making it difficult to breathe. Opening his eyes, he found himself staring at a demon. “Hey,” the creature said with a sneer, “Guess what? Tag: You’re it.” And with that, the beast vanished.
I wish I could Hag people. It would be so satisfying to know that if someone pissed you off you could attack them in their sleep with your spirit. Plus it’d just be fucking fun. “Hey, bitch! Watch where you’re going! >:(” “Oooh, you’re a douchebag! I’ll see you around 3am tonight! :3”

I absolutely love waking dreams. X3 Even when they scare the fuck out of me, I’m always stoked I had them after the fact, just because they’re such a neat psychological phenomenon. Mine are usually just interesting, not frightening. I wish I had them more often.
I’ve had quite a few of these things over the years, ranging from the classic evil-spirit-attack to hallucinating blues music and the smell of soap. My most recent one (which is one of my favorites so far, because it’s cute) involved realizing that an adorable succubus* had curled up next to me and fallen asleep with her head on my shoulder, and I didn’t want to move because it would be rude to wake her up. XP
*I use the term “succubus” loosely, since in the dream I knew that’s what she was but nothing about her was actually succubus-like. That kind of awareness is pretty standard for my dreams in general.

Neat picture ^^ don't remember ever having one of those dreams, but I do remember being awoken by my black kitteh sitting on my chest in that exact way XD good thing he's just a normal hungry plain kitteh.
Like your info paragraph too. I find dream tales very interesting (probably because I have so few dreams). Nice of you to include an informational link ^^

lol. We've got a little black cat, and she's been known to sit on my step-dad like this while he's sleeping. Eventually she gives up and pesters my mom instead, since she wakes up more easily.
Yeah, they're really neat. ^^ I've always had rather vivid dreams in general with convoluted plots, and as of late (past few months) it's been really common for me to have sensations that most people don't seem to have while sleeping (taste, smell, texture, pain, temperature, etc). I used to only get non-vision/hearing senses very rarely (sometimes not for years) so I'm stoked that it happens all the time now. The bad ones (such as an unpleasant texture or something hurting) tend to be mild, but the others are sometimes really strong which is a lot of fun. Night before last I had one in which I was in a hot-tub of sorts and the water was super warm and pleasant, and in other dreams I've had the taste of absolutely amazing chocolate. X3 Anyhow, point being that I tend to be quite a dreamer anyway, so it makes sense that I have these things.
I had my first waking dream when I was thirteen. At the time I was keeping a dream journal, so I wrote it down and ended up forgetting about it. Then when I was fifteen I was reading a book about vampire lore and it mentioned psychic vampires and listed the common symptoms (paralysis, laying on one's back, pressure/pain on the chest, hallucinations, etc). It rang a bell, so I went back to the journal and manged to find the entry, so I figured that was the kind of dream glitch that got the myths started. The book referenced another specifically about "The Old Hag" (as the myth is called in some cultures, since they thought you were being attacked by a witch) so I got that one and read through most of it. It had some stats that were interesting, like 20% of people have these dreams, and they're known throughout the world and such, so I got super curious about what might be the actual cause of them. It wasn't until I took psychology in high school that I learned about REM sleep in detail, and hearing some of the qualities of it (paralysis, hallucinogens in the brain, being very close to awake, etc) made me figure that that's what was up: The brain failed to do something quite right and you ended up being in REM mode while awake. To my delight a few years later I heard about sleep paralysis and found out that I had pretty much hit the nail on the head with my hypothesis. I was super proud of myself. lol
Since I learned about these things in the first books, I've wanted to include psychic vampires in one of my stories and depict the attacks exactly like waking dreams. I still get a kick out of the idea that if I ever published such a book there would be bound to be at least a few people who would read it who'd had waking dreams but didn't know about sleep paralysis, and it could bring the horror of the fiction up to a new level. *chuckles evilly*

That's neat! I'm so totally jealous. I almost never dream. Well I probably have 1 or 2 dreams a month and they are usually couple minutes scene from my previous day. In the odd event that I dream of something different then don't remember it when I wake up.
How can you remember things from back when you were 13?!? I barely remember what I had for breakfast this morning! XD

... yes. Yes! YES! DO IT! :D

Yeah, dreams have a tendency to vaporize almost as soon as you wake up. If I have a dream I like, I often have to lay in bed thinking about it for a while to make sure I don't forget it.
lol. I have a really bad memory normally. Like I said, I wrote it down, so that's probably the only reason I recall it half as well as I do. My brain also tends to pick weird things to remember, so I might have a clear memory of a dream from when I was six, but I'll forget big things like my best friend from late elementary school. ^^; Same thing happens with books: I'll forget most of the plot and sometimes even the main characters, but a very specific line from a very specific (and often insignificant) scene will stick in my head almost word-for-word. I have no idea why.
And yes, I plan on doing so some day. X3
