To show that I am going along with this idea, I present to you all a full reference for the main protagonist of my upcoming Kingdom Hearts fanfic, entitled "Kingdom Hearts: The Greater Chain".
The premise of this fanfic is the expansion of Kingdom Hearts past the restrictions of only having the universes of Square Enix and Disney.
This means that worlds can now be included from Universal, MGM, Warner Bros, and even 20th Century Fox.
And with this greater amount of worlds, there's bound to be yet another who gains the power to wield the mighty keyblade.
Thus, we come to Ash.
Ash, as you know or can tell from the picture, is from the 2009 stop-motion animated film "Fantastic Mr. Fox".
If you've seen the film, you'd know that he's the son of the prestigious Mr. Fox himself, and doesn't really find his own until the end of the film.
In this fanfic, Ash will be a little older than in the film (about 15 fox years instead of 12, and when he leaves his own world that age will keep the number but convert to human years, so in summation he's as old as Sora).
Now I bet you're wondering why, out of ALL the characters that have ever existed, I decided to pick Ash. Well I shall gladly explain.
Being a part of the furry fandom for lack of a better term, I initially began looking for a character from a Disney film which was either anthropomorphic already or could rather easily transition into one. Options such as Simba or Robin Hood came up, and while they're not necessarily bad choices I felt I could do better.
I began to branch out into other production companies, and when I inevitably came to Fantastic Mr. Fox the decision became a little easier. I noticed that Ash is a part of a three-way friendship just as Sora was (Ash = Sora, Kristofferson = Riku, Agnes = Kairi), and then it just clicked in. I even felt like an idiot for not thinking of him sooner.
I also like how different Ash would be in facing things compared to Sora, as they will be sharing the protagonist spotlight back and forth in the fanfic. Some have probably been annoyed with how overly happy Sora can be, heck even some of the games have pointed it out. Ash, on the other hand, can be rather cynical and condescending, and it gives a far different perspective to toy with that I think I will enjoy and hopefully others will too.
Now, I have to tell you guys that a LOT of thought went into this design, likely a lot more than you think.
I really wanted to set Ash's clothing apart from the other key bearers, and I believe I have done so well enough.
As you can probably tell if you're familiar with Kingdom Hearts, I referenced a picture of Roxas for the initial picture and then for most of the clothing, but then I proceeded to change the colors. I believe the black-gray-white then light brown really compliments Ash very well.
Then I began to set his clothing apart from others. His pants are rolled up to show his ankles and down, so they are not like Riku's jeans or like Sora's baggy shorts, but they are in-between. Then, along with the short sleeves of his small jacket, I gave him some rolled up long sleeves to set him apart, for Sora has the short sleeves and Riku has no sleeves. I then gave him open-toed sandals, because all the key bearers up until this point have some type of closed shoe. The sandals are to reference the fact that Ash used to walk generally barefoot in his film, and the bottoms of the sandals are very padded so they feel more like tennis shoes. For hand wear I went with bandages, as all the others have either nothing or some kind of glove. The bandages are also because in the very beginning of the fic his hands will be burned by a Xemnas lookalike, and this is supposedly how he obtains the power to use the keyblade. Aside from the bandages, Ash wears a wristband on his right arm and has a ring on his left thumb, as difficult as that may seem. The belt loops on either side of him are sort of meant to resemble the chain that Sora wore in that similar fashion, but more importantly they are a place to keep his various keyblade chains. The one currently on there is the sock he wore before getting an actual bandit hat in the film, and it summons the form of his default keyblade "White Cape". I shall post my picture of that later.
His clothing generally uses buttons rather than zippers for obvious reasons, and as the pic states he can sometimes wear his white jacket as a cape like he used to do in the film.
True, he's a little grown up. But not completely :P
I am REALLY proud of how the center picture came out, and to a lesser extent the health icon up in the left corner, and to an even lesser practically non-existent extent the two stance pictures. Guess I should explain those.
I was trying to demonstrate Ash's battle stances, as the beyblade wielders we've played as can be different from each other. As he takes a bit of lessons from Sora, Ash's standing stance in a battle will be just like the original hero's. When Ash runs in battle, however, he keeps the keyblade at his side, much like how Blackrose from dot.hack or Siegfried from Soul Calibur would hold their weapons. He does this because to Ash the keyblade is a bit more of a burden at this time than it is to others, he is a new wielder and is not yet proficient with it so it's only fitting.
Whew...
Well, I sure hope that was all I wanted to say.
If anyone has any more questions feel free to ask.
