I'd been wondering what to do to spice up the central area of the gazebo, and after I'd added the lamp-pillars to the edge of the island, I suddenly realized that the base of those pillars would work very well.
And it does.

I've been playing around with Blender for, wow, six years now.
(didn't think it was that long...)
It's amazing the number of changes that have been made to it.
First the node editor, which allowed the user to do post-processing in the Compositor, now Cycles is the latest big thing.
Well, for me anyway.
I honestly haven't been getting my materials anywhere near as realistic with the old Blender Internal engine as I have with Cycles.
Of course, the fact that you can set it up to automatically re-render the viewport as you're editing things helps a heck of a lot.
(granted, that means you need a good graphics card now. Fortunately, it is worth the money)
It's actually enough of a leap forward that I've started going through my older works to see if any can be sufficiently improved by "upgrading" them to Cycles.
That's actually where my Tram Station image came from.
It was originally an old scene I'd been planning for a game I've been working on for ever that I switched over to Cycles, and it took on a whole new dimension.
(oh my! I forgot to upload the latest version over here! You can find the latest version on my DeviantArt account until I upload it here)

Quite amazing changes indeed. Sometimes I wonder why it's even open source with the capabilities it has, though there's a whole story behind that.
I've only started using Blender recently, creating 3D Pong and Labyrinth... Have you made any games or are you just specializing in graphic design?
Your work looks impressive. I have a friend who can do phenomenal work with it if you'd like to talk to him. Watch some of his Blender animations: http://www.youtube.com/user/Nehalem.....rid&view=0
The three of us can be Blender nerds together. XD

Open source means they don't have to maintain a large team to keep the source code updated.
To a certain extent, it sort of spontaneously forms, at least when somebody has an "itch" they want to "scratch".
Being open source means greater flexibility, and no ties to a corporate roadmap.
If it were a commercial piece of software, users would have different, tighter, expectations.
They would prefer it to be patently obvious how to use it, which would be detrimental to its current usage speed.
If you haven't noticed, the user-interface has been set up in such a way so that just about every operation can be done with one hand on the mouse and the other on the keyboard.
Practically no successful commercial package is allowed to be that fast, because they're all expected to be easy to learn, not fast to use.
I have played with the Game Engine a little bit, but haven't tried using it in the past few months.
It's been a little awkward for me, especially since I haven't used it since 2.49b... =>.>=
I've started watching you, so we can trade tips back and forth.

Aw, what's wrong with "Sixteen going on Seventeen"?
Too young for you? =^.~=
Seriously, though, the focus of the scene has started to change from what I'd originally planned, and it would be good to put some people in to bring focus back to the original point.
After all, that was the original point, to have a couple in the scene, to be the focus of the scene, to be the point of the scene.
I guess my only concern would be how I put them in.
Drawing would take a lot of time, effort, and skill (skill that I don't presently have, and thus wouldn't do justice to them), while putting models in would require skills more in line with what Steve and WP are doing (which are also pretty far out of my reach right now)
Suggestions?

You mean, aside from the fact that Charmian Carr (Liesl) broke her ankle right at the beginning of filming the scene and the director forced her to perform it, leaps and bounces, anyway, without any sort of binding on her bare feet?
And then there's the fact that both the lynx and tiger in question are much older than 16 and 17 years old, and neither one of them are in for such shenanigans. The lynx's grandchildren perhaps, but not the lynx.
Perhaps you can borrow existing models from Steve?

Dang! I didn't know about that!
That's about as bad as the story I heard about Fred Astaire demanding that Ginger Rogers keep dancing despite her feet being "cut to ribbons" and bloody! =>.<=
The age thing is what I was thinking of when I said that.
(maybe I should do that anyway? =^.~=)
I'll ask him and see what happens.
