The aftermath of an Amtrak train hitting a loaded dump truck near my house. The truck driver was killed on impact; nobody on the train was seriously injured. This is why you don't try to beat the train, and why you definitely pay attention at crossings! The driver was on his cell phone and somehow did not see or hear the oncoming locomotive. Notice the damage to the front of the lead engine--it looks much worse than it actually is. The nose on these GE P42DC diesels is made of fiberglass, so it can be easily replaced.
If you look very closely, the remains of the truck cab (hood) can be seen in the background, just above the cluster of maintenance vehicles.

Before I entered the fandom, I grew up as a fan of all of Amtrak's trains & routes. When I heard about this accident, I was shocked. Hearing that the dump truck driver was on his phone slightly made me feel better, just to prove that driver was stupid on being on his phone while driving & crossing the rail road tracks! (You can fix dumb, but you can't fix stupid!) I was glad though that nobody on the train was killed.
