I actually started really doing backgrounds this year. They take a lot more time but they really help make pieces look more complete and interesting by putting the character in an environment. I also started a more detailed shading technique, although I don't use it all the time, and I started getting some of my first commissions.

It's nice to see evident improvement this time, cause last year I didn't see much of it.
