This is my completed (and reworked) character reference sheet/application for the Pokemon of the Caribbean group on DeviantArt. I had to redo/update some things because they didn't really work/weren't appropriate for the time period and such. Below is all the information on him.

- MISC. FEATURES: Lacks the M shape on his chest that Zangooses tend to have

- HISTORY:
Valen was born to rich, well-off and strict parents. His father was a nobleman with ties to the Navy, and as such, he was raised to eventually become a part of it himself. His father made him study subjects such as seafaring, geology and combat styles such as swordplay and close combat fighting. This strict regimine did not sit too well with Valen, who often would improvise on his combat training, much to the chagrine of his tutor, and from a young age, began to sneak out at night and explore the city and ports. It wasn't long before he started 'collecting' other people's possessions, not so much for his own profit or anything, but more for the thrill and rush of the challenge.

One night when he was 12, on one of his many excursions to the port, he came across a pirate crew docked in the harbor. While most people wouldn't dare consider stealing from a pirate crew, Valen simply saw it as a fun challenge, and tried to pickpocket the captain. He waited in the shadows until his target passed within touching distance, and deftly stretched out his hand towards the coinpurse. His hand had barely touched the fabric before a firm grip grasped his wrists. He expected some sort of blow to come next, so was shocked when the Scyther simply chuckled, patted him on his head, and said to him "Impressive work for one so young. Keep it up, hone your art, and one day you may even find a place in my crew". From this day forwards, Valen strived to become more stealthy, skilled, and silent, and earn his place on that crew.

He remained under his family's roof for a few more years, sneaking out at night to hit the streets and see what he could pilfer, until one day his father approached him on the subject of an arranged marriage. Valen, being closeted gay (both for his own safety and also due to not being completely comfortable with the idea), began to panic, and decided it was time to leave his old past behind or else risk being caught and punished. That night, he packed up the gear he deemed important and/or neccessary, and slipped away into the night, discarding both name and past. He found residency in a relatively sheltered port, and began his new life of fending for himself.

A couple years later, he once again came across the same pirate crew that he ran into 8 years ago docked in his port, and knew he had found his life's true calling. To prove himself worthy, and show how much he had improved, he decided to attempt pickpocketting the captain once again. This time he managed to actually detach the entire coinpurse, then approached the Scyther and held it out to him. The captain chuckled in the same fashion as those many years ago, and when Valen asked to join his crew, he accepted.

- PERSONALITY:
Valen tends to be quite shy and reserved around people he isn't very familiar with, and may take a while to warm up to them. Once he does, however, he becomes much more open, outgoing and friendly, and will do anything he can to help and support those important to him. As he is one of the newest members on Sao-Feng's fleet, and hasn't had much time to get to know the crew, he is still fairly quiet around his crewmates, and sees them as far superior to himself.
He is very uneasy about his sexuality, especially due to the stigma attached to being gay, and as such, becomes quite nervous and flustered when flirted with, especially if by another male.
Even though he usually has a relatively calm disposition, he can occassionally fly into fits of extreme rage, becoming very hostile and unpredictable.
He hates to kill, and even hurt, but will not shy away from it if he deems it neccessary. He will also prefer to steal only from those who he deems deserving of it, but will still follow orders if told otherwise.

- WEAPONS: Valen's main and preffered weapons are a pair of Katara, the concept of which he discovered from a well-travelled sailor, who described seeing a group of warriors from a faraway country (India, but he didn't know it at the time) using them in an exotic combat style. Valen was fascinated, and as he favoured small, fist weapons already, commissioned the local blacksmith to make him a pair specifically for himself. At first he was unsure how to use them in his fighting style, and this lead him to many accidental cuts from himself, but eventually managed to adapt and use them efficiently.
He will also use other close combat weapons such as swords and daggers, and has a decent level of skill in them, although if the situation allows, will use his Katara over these.
- CLOTHING OF CHOICE: pale brown slacks, red arm sash and hip sash, and leather boots. Also wears a pure gold earring in his left ear - the first thing he ever stole and kept as a trophy.
- ACCESSORIES: Wears a gold earring that was the first thing he ever stole. Also wears a high quality red arm sash and waist sash, both of which seem to be quite important to him, although he seems hesistant to talk about why.

- TALENTS:
> Extremely lithe, agile and quick on his feet, he is able to slip around unnoticed fairly easily.
> As a Zangoose, has a natural Immunity to most, if not all poisons (but can still be hurt by poison moves of course)
> Uncommon and unpredictable fighting style with his fist weapons, but also has a decent affinity with swords.
> Relatively good reflexes, and is able to force himself to dodge an attack with Detect, although doing so puts great strain on his body, and as such he cannot use it very often.
