I thought a while about what to do for Shax since I didn't want to just do a regular standing around picture. Then I realized that since Shax had put himself in Jin's clan, that what's better than spending some time with lurved ones.
Even when lurved ones are the size of buildings. All in all this was a fun picture to though oof! Drawing one character so much larger has made me realize how easy it is to make them seem washed out in comparison to a smaller figure due to the details being more spread out on the macro version.

The way I see it, it's a bit of a risk. There are a couple of people who put themselves in Cyra Clan - before it was revealed that it consisted entirely of Dan and his psycho mother. Jin was one of the ones I figured was dodgy since there are only 8 (9..?) members and knowing Mab she's probably designed them all.
Usually it's better, if you're going with a 'Cubi character to create an obscure minor clan of your own since there seem to be umpteen of those.
That said, I did eventually break down and create about four custom Taun members for a project of my own, but there are approximately 387 of them so it seemed like a relatively safe bet. If Mab sat down and designed every single Taun member, she needs help.

Yeah, there's always a risk writing for someone else's universe.
As I understand it there are lots and lots of small obscure clans, so adding a few here and there wouldn't matter. After all, if there are approximately 30'000 'Cubi and only 11 Tri-winged clans with, say, 1500 living members between them, that gives you a heck of a lot of leeway to create a custom clan with say 50 people in it and no leader.
Amusingly, Jakob was originally designed to be a member of a clan that was ignored and snubbed owing to their chief being extremely eccentric. The idea was that that would give him a measure of "Daryil Clan? Who are they...?", and make him at least plausibly canon. And that seems to have worked out pretty well.
What really breaks things is adding a clan with a tri-winged leader like Jin, Cyra etc. With a little fancy footwork you can work around that - in the case of Sunblink's Jyraneth clan, Amber left enough loopholes for us to have her missing and presumed dead without obviously breaking canon compatibility. On the other hand it gets a bit suspicious if everyone uses that ploy.
With Daryil, I had him as a normal 'Cubi with ambitions of becoming tri-winged. I'm still not 100% sure that having him actually achieve that in the post-canon future was a good idea, but people who read my comic seem to like it, and Amber hasn't yet come after me with a broken bottle so it can't be going so badly.

I'm the writer and colourist, the original artist was
siegfriednox but he had to quit about a year ago. Since then,
merlin-the-bruce has been drawing it. It's supposedly set 150 years after DMFA, but is based around original characters.

Going with an obscure, non canon mini clan was what we went with when
rocroldis and I were brainstorming up Stargazer/Ewan's clan. The clan leader we came up with is Agrafina, a female eurasian red squirrel, and adrenaline junkie. The name roughly translates to "Feet First"

Well, at the time, Siar was a fairly obscure clan, or at the least, not relevant to the main storyline..As of right now though, whatever happens to Abel, there will always be one of us in canon, though the reader will be unaware of this..
As for colors, Jin's are very subtle, and compliment Shax's well..Mab really hit a perfect balance of details on the macro/ micro theme

Heh. My excuse for making Shax part of Jin is because of his color scheme already. I had the colored designed LONG before I decided to make him part of Jin. After a good long time (Hence why it took me three months to develop him) I gave in and just threw him into Jin clan due to the colors.
I haven't seen any fan character before for Jin clan, and only ever seen Mink as an official character. So I thought it would be alright to place him there.
I do feel a bit bad though. I actually had several people on Furcadia or Second Life try to make their own Cubi because of me just for the sake of being a Cubi. They don't do any research into the race, DMFA universe, clans, or the Cubi powers. I even had some people get pissy at me for telling them its imposable to be part of Fa'Lina's clan... *Headdesks*
At least if you look at Shax's backstory I had his father (Who was a Jin clan Cubi) killed off to try and maintain the number of Jin clan Cubi.

i like working with canon to, to an extend, and admittedly i try to bend the rules a little where i can, because as with everything there are exceptions to the rules. with something like clan numbers though, especially with those established in canon, there's no wiggle room X3
good job on him, i've seen him for a while and i really like his design!
