Val's Commisioning Policies!Anyone who would buy anything I draw should probably seek psychological assistance, or ease up on the drugs xD
Instead, this tab is here for artists I'm interested in commissioning as a guideline to how I usually work together with them.
I hope each and every person I commission finishes the job thinking 'Thanks, that was fun, let's do it again sometime.' Kinda reflects my view on other things in life, be it work or leisure.
These guidelines are the first step in making sure that happens. I look forward to working together with you! |

If I'm happy, you should be happy too!I'll do my best to post honest reviews with each commission, and I'm more than happy to take feedback from artists as well on how they felt working together with me.
In fact I encourage it! I'd like you to walk away from the experience happy as well. |

The Monies!Bargaining. Not a fan. Instead, my policy is simple.
I want to work together with you at a price that you feel is fair.
If I ask questions, I do so because I myself am not an artist, not because I'm trying to be snarky. Not because I want you to be more like another artist. Not because I'm questioning the value of your art.
If you can provide an explanation that makes sense to me, and your prices are not way out of whack, we will probably come to an agreement.
I don't really expect any freebies or discounts other than maybe a returning customer price. ^_^
As clarified further below, once we have an agreement, I pay in full, upfront, via Paypal. |

Work Ethic! This is a huge topic, since everyone works best their own way. I'll stick to the ones that stand out in my mind.
Working Process!
I'm a writer, so I tend to be a little more wordy and try to be descriptive. If ever the words, they multiply in such a way that makes you want to run screaming, please let me know!
I also enjoy talking through things with the artist to get their views and opinions. So do feel free to give feedback as much as possible.
Tell me if you prefer more or less feedback. I understand some like to show their style, others like to be told exactly what to do. I'm happy to take a middle ground, where I give you a few key guidelines, and let you work from those, but if you prefer otherwise, let me know!
Deadlines and stuffs!
I do not want to, and will not breathe over your shoulder. But I will always ask you set a deadline.
Let's be clear, deadlines aren't there to constrain you or pressure you. And they needn't always be 'I will finish X by day Y.' They can be 'I will think about it/do some planning/try it out and then get back to you on day Y'.
Let's put it this way, you probably wouldn't/shouldn't work for someone who says 'yeah, I'll pay you sometime'.
I also am understanding that unexpected delays crop up. What I expect in this area is simple.
I let you set the dates. Tell me when you expect to finish what, and then a simple email on that date telling me what's up is perfect.
If said delays occur, let me know what's happened BEFORE the date set, not after, unless you are in fact a victim of a killer bee attack or some such sudden unexpected misfortune.
Communication!
This is somewhat related to deadlines. I had to learn this the hard way myself in the course of my work, so I entirely understand why sometimes people don't get this.
When we receive emails, its fairly normal and straightforward to think: 'Oh, okay, cool. It says to do X, I think X will take me about a week, which is fairly normal, so I'll reply then, once its done'. This is completely reasonable to you, sure.
However, please put yourself in the other person's shoes. They've sent an email. Its not hard to understand how they might start to wonder if you've received it, especially if 6 days goes by without an answer.
So always take a bit of time, if even just 10 seconds, to type out a 'Yep, cool, I got it, it'll probably take me X time, I'll get back to you then'. Problem solved, just like that.
Remember, people often don't really like to bug you either for things like that. Makes them feel like stalky needy partners. So wouldn't that 10 second email be be worth saving people the awkward experience? =) |

Terms and Conditions! Some hard and fast rules for people who just want the nitty gritty! If you need clarification, please ask =)
Before any committments are made, I will probably expect a sketch taking about 15 minutes of your time to make sure we're roughly on the same page. No use going into something without that established at the very least.
Once a committment is made, you have my trust, and payments will be made via Paypal, full amount upfront. |

Val's Wishlist! This section here is for stuff I'd like to do at one point or another=) One of you guys reading this might find one of the projects intriguing or have a flash of inspiration for it! If so, hit me up and we can talk.
You'll notice they're mostly game orientated =D
My character as a Chaos Space Marine. Also my character as a Commissar in the Imperial Guard. I'm a 40K fan xD So let me know if this interests you or is relevant to your expertise =)
If you have no idea what I'm talking about, go googleimages Chaos Space Marine ^_^ If you're a male, you'll probably already know what they are and think they're awesome. If you're most girls, then you'll probably roll your eyes and mutter something about silly boys and their toys =P
My character as he is playing Payday 2. Payday 2 is a game where you play a professional criminal and go around robbing all the things and running off with bags of all the sweet lewts! You do so wearing a suit. Very sharp.
My character as a Mesmer from Guild Wars. Best. Class. Ever.
My character playing Killing Floor ^_^ Its a class based FPS, where you burn all teh zombehs! Wholesome fun for the whole family!
My character drawn as an angel, styled like Tyrael from Blizzard's Diablo series!
For all the above, I don't have an exact idea what they'll be like, so you have room to be creative if that's your thing. Save for maybe the Warhammer 40K ones, I actually envisage them trending towards the humourous. As in shooting at chibi furry enemies which are flailing and running around with O_o and Dx type anime expressions. Yeah, I have that kind of humour xD |
