Because I promised you guys I would do this.
Now, while I am happily riding the shipping fan-train with pretty much everyone else (because, hell it would be damn cute, wouldn't it?), this movie probably has more porn drawn of it before its release date than there's promotional material for it out, internet or not.
And while I'll argue that quite a few capable artists have made the physical part of this potential ship very ... let's say appealing, I find there's an overbearing load of works that focus exclusively on that specific aspect of a relationship. Now, we all know I draw porn, because it's fun (and it pays bills at times), but just this once ... there's more things to being together than just fucking eachother's brains out.
Having said that; I'm very much looking forward to watching this entirely porn free movie next month upon release and maybe we'll all be treated with a 'the shipping is real' moment at the end, however unlikely that might be.

Heh, I'm not sure Disney would take wishes and hopes from this particular fandom, but on the other hand, it seems to be so heavily self aware, it'd be a heavy let-down if they didn't have Judy and Nick end up as acouple ... at the very least, they'll be very close friends, if the trailers are any indication.
I'm gonna say it's a matter of immersion. The reflection gives the eyes a more tangible feeling and since eyes are the first things humans focus on, it's something to pay a lot of attention to when doing art ^^
Having said that; thank you. I'm glad you enjoy it so much!

Well thank you very much for that ^^ to be honest, I'm surprised by how much attention this piece has gotten, given that we furries like to self-depricate ourselves about our fascination with the sexual.
I'm glad you like the depth of the picture and hope you continue to enjoy my work, whether related to these two, or anything else ^^

As said above, I'm not above drawing porn of these two some day in the future, but this kind of personal closeness is something I feel the ship is severely lacking ... now that I think about it, maybe the fandom is focusing on the porn so much because getting emotionally invested in a fictional emotional relationship is too breaking if the ship turns out to sink at the end of the movie ... huh
I'm not complaining either. As much as I don't need to stroke the mans' ego any more than the rest of the fandom does, Zaush's renditions of these two getting physical are pretty neat ... but as you said, there's a time for everything ... and now there needs to be some time for this sort of thing. Maybe I'll add to the physical pile some time when the hype has died down after the release ~
There was one with Judy and wolf guard, so that's one porn from Zaush with at least one character who isn't Judy or Nick. :D

That's an itch that you definitely need to scratch. ;)

That's adorable! And yeah the proportion of porn is kind of scary, but perhaps exposure to the actual movie itself will prompt more non-porn fan art. I'm getting more and more excited for this movie, which is bad considering it's nearly a month away still.
Glitter-covered scantily clad tigers dancing seductively in some of the trailers does not help on the porn factor though. It's funny some of the provocative fan art of them isn't much worse than the actual trailers. Shakira's character dances too but not quite as blatantly sexually as her backup dancers.

Aaaaah, YESSSSS!!!! Although I quite like the rule34 of Judy floating around, I was waiting for such an intimate - sentimentally speaking - pic to show around... And I am not surprised it is by you.
Funny enough, I've had the same kind of idea for a month now, just slightly more sexy in its context but still absolutely without any shown bit, and was wondering if I would draw it someday... Wonder if your own version is pushing me to do it or on the contrary prevents me to do so. No way I could stand the comparison.

XD Well, I suppose I have a bit of a reputation at this point. Glad I could appeal to some of my regulars with this .. in turn, it's not exactly surprising to find you in this crowd. Neither the one that enjoys the r34 or the one looking for the sentimentally intimate stuff ;3
Having said that; I've said a few times now that I might add to the r34 pile eventually, but that's stuff in the future. Whether you do or not is entirely up to you, but it's a nice idea knowing that I could potentially influence you to do either one or the other ;D

Everything you said in your description.
I'm no prude, I love porn.
However, I think they've overdone it with those two characters, and honestly Judy just doesn't have the kind of shape I would consider very sexy (no offense to any rabbits out there). The porn just ends up looking feral and strange, and I'm not a big fan of feral.
According to some unofficial sources there's no romance between the two but even so, I think they're too cute not to eventually be together.

There's a comment somewhere above, where I said it's unlikely that they'll really end up a couple, but they're certain to leave off as good friends at the end of the movie, so I'm not expecting the ship to sink, even if it doesn't sail entirely from canon city X3
I do love porn myself and if I'm honest with myself, I wanna give that a shot eventually too. But I've always shot for a different calibre of porn, so even if I do eventually end up falling into the r34 crowd, don't expect a massive overload of any kind ;b
For now, I'm content to daydream the ship and let them be snuggly while I sit on my thumbs waiting for the damn movie to come out already~ XD

I love this, you are amazing, please don't ever hesitate to draw sweet SFW things like this ever. I have a SFW project afoot to promote the helpful macro aspects of this movie, in part to balance the inevitable and ubiquitous NSFW fan art stuff. There's so much more to this movie ... so much.

I'm half-awake scrolling through a lot ofZootopia shlock when I came to your depiction here and I was just enchanted. It's such an original and beguiling piece. First of all, the whole staging is so homey and placid; the anatomy of the two animals is so well done with so many wonderful touches...the way Nick's arm drapes around Judy like a stole, holding her so close but so gently...Judy's calm so-not-hyper-alert facial expression and her beautifully crafted paws...even the glint of the ipad screen light in their half-closing eyes. Nick seems so relaxed, released from all his poises and defenses, his wounds and hurts all balmed in Judy's trust and affection. You almost think he just might feel safe enough to express his love out loud to the rabbit who "knows" she loves him, to show that she's "got to him". His tenderness is so beguiling. Judy looks so content, freed of her drives to compete, to exceed, to prove herself and instead quietly delighting in the intimacy of Nick's care and company. If there is passion or electricity or even a whiff of carnality in the bonds evolving between rabbit and fox, your picture has but hints of such undercurrents hidden within the simple, comfortable, deeply loving friendship displayed. Judy loves Nick, he knows she loves him [he said so], and if he can't yet escape the insecurities of a lifetime to risk saying "I love you, Judy", well, his enfolding arm around her, his cheek on her brow, his tranquil expression speaks clearly enough to "Carrots" for now. Why is this picture so great? - well, for one thing, because it inspires artists like you to craft amazing art like this wonderful picture of Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde. Thank you for it; hope to see more. Warmest...
Wow, this seems to have slipped through the cracks a week aago o.o
Thank you very much for the kind words ^^ considering this was produced before the movie came out, it didn't carry all the weight of the characters at the time, but in retrospect, despite not being my best rendition, this is probably still my favorite piece I did of the two of them for exactly the reasons you described here. I would hope that, if they do a sequel and they take on the topic of their relationship as something serious, they do so with the same amount of care and analysis with which you took on commenting here.
I'd revisit this piece to fix a few things if I had the time and it wasn't re-treading the old path, though I'm pretty sure there will be more shipping character pieces for them in the future from me, some of which I hope will live up to this here
Again, thank you very much!

I'm of two minds on a sequel. When he was alive, Walt Disney was dead set against sequels. "They always disappoint." ,,,and there are unanswered questions...What do carnivores eat?...does zootopia allow crossspecies sex?...marriage?...religion?...and some fans will be unhappy. But it is hard to walk away from the "dance" between two of the best characters Disney has created in a decade. Whatever Disney does, iPoke, I'm going to look forward eagerly to wherever your talents take these two. Again, thank you for your kind words and all the more for your fascinating art.
Sequels are always risky. To be honest, I'm also a little split on the subject of doing one, but the universe is just so rich and with so many corners to explore and tell stories in, it'd be a shame not to exploit that. besides, there's been examples of good sequels, even in animation; Shrek 2 especially was a spectacular surprise in that regard, as far as I'm concerned.
As for the questions;
- According to official sources, carnivores eat supplements; tofu, insects, fish ~ essentially a vegetarian diet. One of my theories for a less "only happy" version of Zootopia is that there's likely an underground market for ... well ... actual meat.
- The sex question will probably never be answered directly, but if Judy and Nick do get to hook up (fingers crossed); both of them are adults. Do your math :b
- Marriage is a good question. It could actually serve for a good further aesop on tolerance if that were to be addressed in a sequel, but it's a dangerous road to travel down and might begin feeling like Disney was trying to hammer a message a little too much.
- Zootopian citizens obviously have some kind of concept of a diety, since Nick does actually use the word God at least once, but considering Judy shied away from saying "Sweet Jesus" I'm fairly sure they have their own version and system of faith and that's good, at least as far as I'm concerned. It'd be a little garrish to have a movie be a massive message about toerance in a society and the enforce a single, real-world religion by a bad choice of dialogue.
Anyway, whatever road the original creators take, I'll be sure to keep producing work around it in the future, whether canon or not ;b

I'm taking up more than my share of space, so just a couple of quick responses...
When the train enters the city, there's a clearly marking [and very spacious] Fish Market visible.
Religion is a subtle and diverse hinting ... Hindu elements at the nudist colony; a polar bear makes the sign of the cross; Gideon Fox mentions "speaking in tongues".
Well, as to sex, the proliferation of the "DanceWithGazelle" app certainly indicates there is trans species carnality and that "Zoosociety" does not disapprove. The flirting and touching between Nick and Judy certainly suggests a gentle strain of desire within the tenderness of their good humored affection [Judy's hip bump against Nick's thigh in the final dance sequence]. It does kinda "add up".
Okay, enough of me. Thanks for your thoughts, and regards.

Yeah. The tundra town scenery was actually developed a lot further than what we got to see in the movie, given the previous story line.
The religious elements are there, but they're not overbearing (haha) in any way shape or form, it's just there and accepted without really being referenced strongly.
And yeah, there's definitely some ignitable chemistry between bunny and fox. Let's hope the catch that and bring it back in the sequel, asuming they make one.
You're always welcome to spill your thoughts in the comment section. I like musing and discussing topics like this =^-^=

My understanding was, in the original story where Nick was the "hero", Tundratown was a "Little Russia" and the mobster theme was more pronounced and even darker than the "Mr. Big" sequences. I was very impressed with some the Russian storyboard stills. In fact given the just jawdropping work Disney did on the train ride from bunnyburough to Zootopolis, I'd have loved to see that "Little Russia" theme developed out.
And I'd like to see more of the "dance" between Judy and Nick if they do a sequel, however far Disney wants to take it. Pixar has had good luck with sequels and, sweet cheese and crackers, the Mouse House looks ready to take Star Wars into "infinity and Beyond".
Zootopia also has some good second banana characters who certainly have followings on Fur Affinity and might get enlarged roles or backstories in a "Z2". While I'd prefer to keep the spotlight on the fox and the bunny, Fennick, Bogo, Clawhauser, Gideon, Mr. Manchas, even Duke Weaselton and the Ottertons have their fans. Warm regards.

Yeah, the little russia idea was pretty neat. It'd have been a lot darker though. The russian mob stories have always been a lot grimmer than any of the stories rooted in the Italian Cosa Nostra cases.
As far as Star Wars is concerned; from what I heard, Disney wants to try an infinite franchise concept with that particular IP.
Finnick is supposed to be getting more of a spotlight in a Z2, according to Moore and Howard =^-^=

Well, Hi, poke.
Yeah, I love the whole Russian ambience they had created, but I'd heard that the script was spiraling out of control and one version even had Judy [who was a Police Lieutenant in this version] getting killed off in a very disturbing manner...something about a "chum [fishbait] grinder." Not good for Hasbro's toy trade, eh?
I'd also caught a couple of other lines that got sropped from the final cut. For example, when Judy punches Nick in the arm, just before they dash into museum, Nick doesn't just say "ow!" He says "Ow! You're strong!" Guess that might have seemed a little emasculating. Later in the museum, when Judy hands him the case of evidence, he refuses to abandon her. Deleted from the scene was his line, "I don't care about the case, Carrots [or "Judy"]. I care about you!" Very gallant of our sneaky, cynical vulpine antihero.
A little more Fennick...sure. There's a great supporting cast there. Just "don't dim the stars!"
Be well.

When they first released the teaser, I was grumpy over this movie because it seemed to be acting like "furry" was a revolutionary concept they'd invented. The movie finally came out, and I was annoyed because people kept drawing spoiler art of the end, an annoyance that I spread around to the rest. But when I saw this one, the tender softness of it made me smile even though I had no frame of reference.
And now that I've finally seen the movie myself, and realize how much I adore the idea of these two being a couple, I gotta say, this is fantastic work here, friend, and you should be extremely proud of yourself! I hope they get to this kind of tender togetherness in the sequel. n_n

Heh, a lot of people seem to have hooked up on the fact that the trailers were a little spotty on their research. I chose to overlook that in favor of the animation and concept presented. Those who matter know better and those who do not don't really care *shrug* ^^
This piece was actually done before the movie came out, however only after they released some of the more revealing trailers where you get to see the characters in action. Still, the shipping took hold and with how wonderful the chemistry between Judy and Nick was represented in the movie, I can't help but hope they get to have a happy end like this ^^
Thank you very much for the kind words <3

Sure, I'm a college professor, teaching History in North Carolina, set to retire in a year. I grew up on Disney so I've always had a soft spot for their work.; Disney stock put my kids through collehe. North Carolina is a very difficult place for college teaqchers but, hey, it's a livin'.
I agree fully. After seeing this movie I have been having a lot of inner battles with the shipper in me, because their friendshipping is just so adorable in its own right. Of course I would be lying if I were to say I didn't enjoy the more -intimate- art of these two, it's what comes with the territory of shipping and wanting to see your couple display their love, but I also do seek out the sfw fanart. Love isn't all about sex, it's a key component surely, but not all that makes a relationship appealing. I love to see my couple being in love and displaying it in numerous ways.
My true battle though is fighting the desire to have great, close relationships with two characters that isn't sexual and just shipping the hell out of it XD.

Hey, I'm not saying I don't enjoy some of the more physical things people have put out there. There's actually some really good stuff on the subject too, but I just feel it's a private space I want to leave them as an artist :3
I'm glad you're liking my depictions in any case! I will eventually address my ideas about their relationship, so follow the little snippets of zoot comics I put out every once in a while for more.

Oh indeed! I have read the ones you have placed out and I'm very excited to see more! Especially the relations with the other characters you have made for it as well. Also I'm sure as a shipper you enjoy the other stuff too, who couldn't? XD However, I completely understand leaving it to the artist and respect your decision to not wishing to draw said material. Again, we could always use more fluff art of the ship as well, I prefer a balance with all my ships. That's why I'm on the fence of being on such sites to start, I dont believe I label myself furry, I just enjoy seeing shippings I adore in intimate settings, some happen to be anthropomorphic or animal characters, but I dont find their species appealing as much as their character and bonds itself if that makes sense. So the site allows me to see the characters I adore of non-human origin freely.
I'm just rambling now XD; Anyway, I will definitely be keeping an eye out for your stuff. Consider yourself watched 83.
