Hey, guys! We’ve been getting a lot of questions about pancans again, so we wanted to give a reminder post about them since it’s been quite a few months! Picture featuring Pink Lemonade, Kahlua, and
cagura's Lumie!
Pancans are an open species with minimal rules! This is all we ask:
1. Credit us for the idea. We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: pancans are just red panda / toucan gryphons, but we feel that if you’re using the same anatomy and name as we did that you probably got the idea from us. That being said, we’d like to at least get some page traffic if you’d like to use it. You are free to link to any of our online presences, which include FurAffinity(here), Tumblr , Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and our website, CFStudiosOnline.com.
2. Actually make it a pancan. If you want to call it a pancan, we ask that you please keep it a red panda / toucan hybrid, with no other animals involved. We also ask that you try to stay within the same anatomy as Kahlua, our first pancan: that would include a big toucan beak, arm wings, a long tail OR a toucan tail, as seen with Lumie, and big old chunky legs. Using coloration from other animals (or anything, really) is completely fine, as long as it is SHAPED like a pancan and only COLORED like something else.
3. Please keep it cute! We can’t control what you do, but we would really like pancans to stay as SFW as possible.
If all of the above conditions are met, you have our blessing, enthusiasm, and encouragement to make and sell your own pancans. We don’t think this is something we’re ever going to police unless legitimate theft is involved, like theft of someone else’s suit or design. It’s more of a request, and we are absolutely delighted to see so many people already making and enjoying their pancans.
And, if for whatever reason you don’t want to meet the above conditions, just call it something else! It’s only a gryphon after all; gryphons have been around as a concept for hundreds of years, and you can do whatever you want with them!
As a reminder,
qutens has made free use Pancan lineart! If you choose to use this lineart, please credit the artist! http://www.furaffinity.net/view/21450719/

Oh man, hilariously, I own a red panda x toucan character that was designed before you guys came up with these: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/16740261/
XD hopefully no confusion there! "Pancan" kinna comes as a natural mix when you hear the two animal species together but I'll make sure not to label her as such!

I just now discovered the Pancans thanks to misheru-san making a base for people to use to make ref sheets of their own. I'm so excited I think they are just so adorable! I'm totally going to make some to advertise the specie, I have friends and family I know that will love them!!
Well it nothing weird or anything, I'm mostly just curious about two things.
1: are Pancans allowed to have a feather crown on their head? Like how some birds have them, like a cockatiel.
2: if Pancans have genders are there allowed to be babies (or chicks). Not in the dirty way of 'making them, but like say I have 2 pancan design could I cross them to make like baby mixes of them, like breedables (as well as like RP, story, maybe a prop for fursuit). I always find babies to be even, if not more, adorable when there are cute adults they turn into. I had asked this 2nd question to someone, qutens, and they weren't sure but thought it would be possible. So I just wanted to check with you, sense they are yours.
If either of these are not okay, that's fine, it the reason why I asked first :3c

I think it would be a no on the crests, since toucans don't have them and they can have colorations from other birds (from anything really) but not anatomy.
If handled well we think the "breeding" would be fine, but we want to stress that Pancans (can) have genders but not sexes or primary / secondary sexual characteristics. We'll make another Pancan post shortly containing more Pancan "origins" if you will, as in how they're created, and if you find your adoptables would fit in fine with that canon then by all means go ahead.
