MIDI Recording - Final Fantasy X - Calm Before the Storm
Also: MIDI version
Except for the faint glockenspiel, I think this is one of my better recordings. ^_^ Honestly though, I wish I could more easily split my soundfonts up into GUS patches or something, and mix and match the instruments I think are most appropriate.

Have you ever looked into a program called Mod plug tracker.
It's basically Midi, but, you use Wav files as instruments.
I think that would be a good route for you, since you do midi music, but, want extra effects.
Also, you can save as MP3s as well, you're not limited to Mod, s3m, MTM, and those types of files. You should look into it.

I've known about it for years. In the 1990s I once dabbled in .it format. I prefer the abstraction of MIDI. :3 At least with MIDI you don't have to loop your own samples or rip samples from other mods that will sound crappy in your mod. I don't want to have to worry about that. I just want to put in the notes first and make sure they sound right. ^_^
