The practice of using oil to coat and protect metal can be traced back almost as long as we have used iron historically.
The romans used olive oil a lot in care and maintenance for metal tools to protect from rust and keep it clean.
And there is other examples of using oils to clean and maintain metal weapons and tools, altho the romans loved using oils in almost everything they could.

Bandits: Hand over your loot penguin!
Eris: *sets flippers ablaze while producing large pillars of fire while speaking in a calm, casual voice* You do not want my loot.
Bandits: *looking utterly terrified* U-Uh...we...we don't want your loot.
Eris: All of you want to go home, and rethink your lives.
Bandits: We're...going to go home, and rethink our lives... *Bandits had run away*

A penguin who turns out to be a Solarin user? Didn’t expect that. Must be ‘handy’ for when you need to cook some fish...
Also, is he wearing a watch on both flippers? First, why two watches? And second, wouldn’t they get damaged when he goes pyromancer? The flames are after all coming right out of his filppers, right next to where the watch/es are.

On a sidenote: Do never clean your skillet by burning the things inside to a crisp.
It's a quick and easy way to clean it, yes. And possibly fancy too!
But it'll burn the non stick layer you built up... or the store built up.
That being said: Love the sudden expression on Fen XD

Burning a skillet in is super easy though and has been done in ages of old too.
All you need is a somewhat controlled heat source (Rock with fire underneath, or just plain fire and some time) and some sort of oil/fat/lard.
You put the -whatever you use- into the skillet, let it boil and evaporate -NOT BURN!- and do so a couple of times. The result is a quite durable anti-stick patina.
(Works best with line seed oil, I just use my skillet with butter and it built up a non-stick patina over time.)
But as I said: Just a sidenote, it's a fantasy world after all. There's probably some super awesome oil or some sort of magic or just good and proven comic logic where pans are non stick by the law of the world :D
