Digital Mockup to Watercolor Process
Poking through my files - these are fun to share, my process behind moving from a digital mockup to a traditional media painting!
From left to right, top to bottom:
-Digital sketch with color mockup.
-Digital mockup is lightened and printed out (and optionally, when I find it more convenient, so is the saturated version to reference), back of lightened version is carbonized by scribbling on it with a chunk of soft graphite, then I go over the linework with a ballpoint pen and the pressure transfers it to the intended surface - in this case, watercolor paper.
-Background washes in watercolor.
-Line art in Bombay ink, followed by additional layers of watercolor on the figures.
This is from a painting I did in 2021. Finished piece.
