Delvers
Every day across known space, untold trillions of ships break the speed of light by whatever means they can. Warp Drives, Hyperspace, Subspace, Slipstreams, Wormholes, Dimensional Shifting and more. The reality of interstellar politics ensures that those powers who can travel farther, faster, become those able to hold on to more. The risk is nearly always worth the reward.
Unfortunately, the universe seems to have a sense of dramatic irony and the faster or more convenient a method of FTL is, the higher its failure rate seems to be. Even at a fraction of percent chance of error, thousands of ships vanish out of realspace each day never to reappear.
That’s where the Delvers Union plies its trade. With rescue, retrieval, and salvage contracts the Delvers venture into the outside of reality to try and wrest profit from the drifting, tainted and often deadly remains of ships lost beyond the light. The crew of the Vainglory are just such a band of ne’er-do-well treasure hunters and thrill seekers, diving headfirst into drifting wrecks and lost derelicts.
