Computer exploded...
I was playing a game and heard a very loud pop and the smell of burnt rubber. My computer won't turn on. I opened the side, nothing seemed fried and it seems the issue could be the power supply but I won't know until I can actually turn my computer back on. It's a pre built computer from ibuypower that I got back in 2018. Never had any issues with it mechanically. Everything is unplugged, I let it rest, tried different outlets, etc...
My issue is that I have a queue of commissions I need to work on. I have 30 dollars in my account. I still have yet to pay my internet bill, get food, and pay rent in 3 weeks, and I cannot afford to get a new computer. My friend is sending a new power supply but I won't know if it was just the power supply or more until it gets here. In addition taking the power supply out was a pain since it seems pre-built computers are extremely annoying to take apart. I turned on my laptop which has not been used in two years and it's barely working beforehand. I can do the basics like discord, and browsing, but I cannot use my tablet because this laptop doesn't have an hdmi port.
Commissions are forcibly on hold until I can get my computer fixed and if it comes down to it, replaced. That being said, if you'd like to help me at all, I have paypal: honeyedtongue@gmail.com and I have a patreon: https://www.patreon.com/InsertRainbows

Sounds like a capacitor in the power supply popping. hope that's the only issue and that it gets fixed soon.

OP
My friend sent me a power supply that should be here soon so we’ll know if it was that or not! Everyone I told was also surprised that my power supply was only a 480 watt.

480 watts is actually enough for most systems - even a gaming rig like mine - but the manufacturers common among such low-spec supplies are notorious for cutting corners.

I was informed that Allied is really bad. Which is what I have. I never had any issues with my computer mechanically in the last three years of having it, but I guess it really didn’t like me playing New World.

480 watt PSU can run systems alright, but the thing with power supplies is if they're running at or near 100% they're not running as efficiently and there's little overhead for safety if something draws more than that during a spike. And yeah, as mentioned by Zkin, cheap materials in a psu are gonna potentially kill it quicker under load. Hopefully the new one works out alright and that's all that's needed to get you back up and running again!
