This morning In Rhode Island My brother's best friend lost his life
the young man who died was like a brother to me, someone I missed the moment I moved away
I will always remember our late night donut runs to get the freebies from dunkin
Taking him on the haunted hayrides so he could make fun of me when I screamed
When we played man-hunt and while hunkered in the brush he was looking for me and called out "There's a skwunk in the woods!"
I'll remember his hug when he was there for me and my brother at my grandma's funeral and my Grandpa's funeral
and I'll remember all the smiles he brought while we fought against my moms alcoholism
He was there for my brother when he most needed him
and when I was checked out
I want my brother to be there for this closing chapter of his life. It was too short. I'm going to miss him forever. But if there is one thing I can do it is get my brother back to Rhode island to go to this funeral. My brother needs this, I refuse to let him down.
