Of Ghosts and Busting. XD

Nice title. XD
Howdy, folks. ^^
Just wanted to throw in my two cents in, as I usually do, about a certain franchise 'fore I inevitably watch a continuation of said franchise premiering after so many years. From that title, you should guess that I'm talking about.... 'Specter-Stompers' XD I kid of course, but wouldn't it be funny that in the Ghostbusters universe there's such a show? Stargate did it. ^^
But yes, what do I think about this franchise as a whole? Loved it since I was 8 years old. Though if I'm being honest... I didn't watch the first movie in its entirety... till I was about 12 or 13. Yeah, as a kid I only watched the bit when the Staypuft Marshmallow dude came in to the very end. Yeah, I was terrified of the terror dogs and the rest of it as a kid. Just like back then when I would watch 'Alien' and 'Aliens' I skipped over the chestbursting scenes. And seeing Bishop in Aliens getting stabbed from behind, him puking milk was really disturbing to me back then. But when I finally did watch the first Ghostbusters movie in its entirety, I absolutely loved it.
Then shortly I learned that there was a second movie that came out in '89, and it was gonna come on one of the movie channels I had, I saw it and I think I love it more. The ghosts in the second one where far more freakier than the first, and Vigo had more of that imposing factor than Gozer, since he was in throughout the movie.
I'm sure the million dollar question on everybody's mind is, 'what do I feel about the 2016 reboot?' Hear me out... I actually don't mind it. I actually liked the cast, though I really do feel Chris Hemsworth was wasted in this, and his character Kevin was grading on me. But his 'Hemsworth-charm' made him tolerable. The movie's not as good as the others, but it's not terrible as every incel on the internet has derided it to be. (before and after the movie's release mind you) But what really made it stand out to me was all of the awesome ghostbusting gadgets the gals had, not just the proton packs. Plus, it actually showed how the proton packs are made. Just little nuances like that really stand out to me.
Besides, regardless of what you think of the movie, I would watch Ghostbusters 2016 OVER Men In Black International any day of the week. My God MIB: International was utter crap with a nonsensical story, and the only saving grace was the chemistry 'tween Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson.
Don't ask me about the games, cuz I haven't played them.
'What about the cartoon?' I'm sure you're wondering. Well I'm currently watching 'The Real Ghostbusters', since I just got the whole DVD set early this week at the time of this journal's entry. Finally I can watch it in its entirety after almost 30 years. That's what inspired me to write this thing XD
And oddly enough, as a kid I did catch a couple 'Real Ghostbusters' episodes, but never stuck around to see it fully, cuz I had others shows to watch. And funnily enough, that's how I learnt of the movie. XD So that was really my first Ghostbusters experience. XD
What do I feel about 'Ghostbusters: Afterlife'? Thought I actually wouldn't have mind it at all if we had a continuation of the 2016 reboot... despite all the grumblings, I'm looking forward to seeing this. And y'all should know I'm a Paul Rudd fan, so this is gonna be fun. ^^
But that's my 2 cents. And it'll only cost you one repeating phantasm, or a class 5 full-roaming vapor. But if not, I'll throw you in a dog and a cat. I hear they love living together ;3
So till then, who're you gonna call?
Thanks for your time. ^^

2016..... I REALLY wanted to like that movie. I went into the film saying, "it's a new story, new characters, new timeline, and women can be Ghostbusters too, damn it!" But Chris Hemsworth's character, and the fact that the characters just wouldn't stop telling jokes trying to be funny just ruined it. I DID enjoy the big end with the ghost attack, and gotta say it was interesting to see the development of the proton packs, the No Ghost logo, and such (loved the idea of this reboot not going for the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man and having their own logo come to attack them as the destructor) and the villain was kinda interesting in having a real living person (at first) be the main threat against the "heroes" instead of a powerful demi-god, or something left over from someone else (Ivo Shandor sets the whole Gozer thing up, but no one ever directly deals with him).
But still that film felt kinda like a cheap cash grab on the franchise and at times a feminist attack on man (I mean, Chris Hemsworth is devastatingly pretty but GRATINGLY STUPID -total bimbo in a male body-, Bill Murrey-who's role as sleezey womanizing Peter Venkmen- gets killed off without repercussions and so unceremoniously, and the villain gets shocked in the nuts as the death blow). Feels like 2016 was more of a, "let's make a new Ghostbusters film, but we'll make it all women, tell almost the same story, and if people hate it, we'll just call them all a bunch of sexist women hating pigs while we attack the male image in this film for cheap jokes. Cause if women can't be sexist, only men can be."
Yeah, sorry 2016 reboot, but toilet humor jokes, cameo's of the OG cast (including a bust of Harold Ramis which went over my head), and cool action sequences just can't make up for what felt like a long winded queef on EVERYTHING that came before.
Sorry, but that's my two cents on the 2016 reboot.
Afterlife....... that is something special. Fan service, done right I'd say. This feels like someone had passion for the project, and love for the franchise. And the ending line before the credits roll.... need I say more?
I do hope for future instalments they get passed Gozer already.
Given how the film ended, I think we just might be moving on to a new baddy at last.
And funny, Elizabeth Banks did the same thing after the failure of the Charlie's Angels reboot
