I got a job!
As of last Friday I am now a cashier at my local grocery store. I stumbled my way through two eight-hour long training shifts and now I know how to operate a cash register. The pay stinks, I only get a single fifteen minute break, and I'm essentially standing in one spot for eight to ten hours, but I need the income so I just have to tough it out. Considering that I've never had a real paying job before I'm just thankful that they hired me in the first place. Fortunately two people just up and quit the day before I came in for an interview so I was very lucky in that regard.
Despite that fact that I've only been there two days I've already learned a few valuable lessons.
1) Bring some aspirin. I am very prone to getting headaches. On my second day I got one of those headaches, a really nasty one. I was lightheaded and nauseous for a solid six hours.
2) Get a lunch box. Carrying around my one meal in a plastic grocery bag is not ideal.
3) Ringing up produce sucks! You have to type in a code every time somebody buys fruits or vegetables, it's so damn tedious. Especially since I'm shit at memorizing numbers so I end up slowly looking through a long list of codes which holds up the line.
4) Why the hell are people constantly buying limes?!
5) Might want to invest in new shoes. My old pair are a little worn out and if I'm going to be standing for nearly eight hours straight I'm going to need proper arch support. Seriously though why can't we have little chairs to sit in while there aren't any customers? That would make things so much easier.
Wish me luck and hopefully the job will get easier with practice and expierence.

Congratulations! Word of advice to you, write your name on that lunch box and if possible, find some way to lock it. Because idk about the people who work there, but where I work people steal other people’s lunches occasionally

Congrats man! The "standing in one place for hours" part isn't exclusive to grocery stores unfortunately, but I'm happy for you!
