The Things I Think About (MOH)
This might be the most confusing topic I never really touched up, but ever since I saw the video of Magical warfare done by shadiversity on youtube, I knew it might be something I have to explain at one point because it's phenomenally important and how Mincridarn Battle Ethics were affected by war and how they affected it.
Forever since as long as the Mincridarins existed, they were given insight into the heavens and, they were born into the wilds of the lands they saw the battle of the fittest first hand every day they see the value of life, and yes life was hard but as they started to develop their magical abilities they started to see how powerful it really made them and loved and feared the power they now held. So Druids, the primary magic casters in early tribal civilizations and spiritual leaders developed "Natural Laws", which Mincridarins have held ever since then, essentially these laws helped create stability and order, and a sense of justice and peace when using magic.
Anyone can say and use magic to slaughter an army, to kill and maim beasts, brutalize them, it takes someone stronger, and wiser to preserve an idea of peace and assurance that a person has the right to defend them and no one has the right to use magic to "Execute" someone, cast a spell that would end their life in an instance. Mincridarins held onto these beliefs for hundreds of years, it made their victories feel earned, death and sacrifices honorable.
Humans on Ecorein didn't take up such peaceful extremes and use their magic to defend their lands and grow exponentially in a short period of time after coming into its power. However, this power caused them to stagnate for eons, as they felt safe behind their walls and more powerful than the barbaric Mincridarins who saw honor in death and the need to fight, and while the Humans stagnated in their cities surviving in perpetual Peace the Mincridarins through the centuries slowly developed their own homes, spread out across the world, developed trade route and kingdoms, eventually becoming more powerful than humans as they had in a way developed a sense of creativity with their magic.
Through the centuries of suffering, perpetual combat, and magical training, only the best surviving, have developed a union with their magical abilities, unexplainable connection to it that enhanced them, made them not only stronger physically and magically, but creatively. Mincridarins were able to create and perform magical spells and feats that humans could only dream of, and this is how the rivalry developed between the two races. That in several late centuries turned into a monstrous war.
The Blood War, a war of racism and idiocy, changed the Mincridarins, the ignorance, and abuse they faced from the humans only grew during the war until at last, enough was enough, it had to end, and end by any means necessary. For decades the humans had been holding the Mincridarins back at the mountain pass between their lands, but as their numbers dwindled, their people turned into slaves, hunted for sport, the King of Mincara during a Council of Kings with the Queen of Matra, King of Leggala and Ende, and Queen of Adestria, voiced their grievances and in a way asked permission to defend themselves.
It was no simple agreement and the debate raged for weeks until at last the Queen of Adestria settled the debate with her vote of acceptance; that was enough to turn the tide of the war. Shift it so drastically that in the span of a year the humans were pushed all but back to their kingdoms wall and "Surrender", but the war never really ended, it became a war of subterfuge and secrets, developing magic in hopes of changing the outcome of battles, and this type of battling went on for years, the racism and bigotry between the two races only growing until it spiked into small skirmishes and battles at the borders.
This changed however in the last decades of the war when the human king was assassinated by a "Mincridarn" assassin, this would serve as the final series of battles that were monstrous and atrocious staining the battlefields with blood and chaos, and with both sides dying out, the side that won was thanks to allies across the world. Adestrians stood behind the Mincara king on the backs of feral dragons and helped them commit a Genocide on humans hunting them down to extinction. Finally brought about an Era of peace for the Mincridarins who finally had the ability to spread out and rebuild without interruption and without fear.
Through the years they started to spread out and plunder and loot the desolated human cities, which slowly after centuries caused them to realize what monsters they had become. Because only in death did they actually see the beauty of the human civilization and their magic and technology, they stagnated and their development was slow, but their homes, their culture was stunning in their own ways. Little by little, the Mincridarins started to revert back to their old ways, vowing to never use their magic to slaughter ever again, to make such monstrous spells forbidden and punishable by death, even against monsters and beasts that hunted them in the wilds. They would stand above it all no matter how long it takes, always training, always perceiving, always conquering a new goal, and honoring their pursuits by abandoning shortcuts.
This is why, even in my book, where the demons are conquering earth that Mincridarins will never use their magic to instantly kill or slaughter spirits and monsters. They see themselves as trainers, protectors, wardens, but not killers, never again will they raise their weapons and spells, abuse what the gods had gifted them.
