Labrn as the Final Villan!
I added to this meme, as there are other important pieces that should be included and known for such a final battle. Taken from
OtakuMan24. Now, normally Labrn would be a side quest boss, as his sword 'Bane' would be a powerful item that players could gain, or would even be a Playable Character, but would take a deal of time as well as the players having to lose a character or two, pending on the game. But, this is if he's the *echoey announcer like* "FINAL BOSS!!"
Alright, you're a final boss:
A) Where does the battle take place?
The Aldebarran home world. Either at the palace or the Temple where Labrn sealed himself inside a statue known as the Temple of Love. (Call it cheesy all you want, there's background reasons. :P )
B) What is the final level's theme song?
The Day the World Revived - Chrono Trigger - A sad song, as you have to defeat Mystic, his sister, in order to defeat him, else the immortal spell his kind cast upon him would continue to bring him back. After finishing off Mystic, Labrn will be summoned to where she falls, holding her in his arms with tearful eyes streaming, and then he'll give his speech.
C) What is your pre-battle speech?
*While still holding Mystic, looking down upon her calm face.* No. . .Mystic. . *closing his tearful eyes in remembrance.* My sisters. . brothers. . all my children. *Looking back upon Mystic, gently brushing a strand of hair from her face.* I was to be your protector. . *A hard swallow* As long as one gave breath, so should I. That I may yet defend those I love. . .*Sets his sister gently down and slowly stands up.* Now I. . *another hard swallow* am the last. *Shaking-ly turns to the party.* Now there are none to protect. *Gives off a half shutter, half chuckle that fades quickly. Then he slowly looks about the palace halls.* The cold grip of mortality, once again clutches me it's grasp. *Brings his hands in prayer to his mouth, eyes closed at the ground. Sheds a final tear and then opens his hands and arms slowly to the party.* Well. . *with a wry smile slowly crawling across his face as he takes a step closer towards the party* Shall we? [..battle commences..]
D) What is the battle theme song (links if possible)?
Panic Attack - Dream Theater - *Opening to battle similar to FFVII vs big bosses. Starts on Labrn's face, and slowly zooms out until the music hits at 0:08 seconds, in which he transforms with a furious bellow into his "Judicator" form.
Though it is a song that has lyrics, either the lyrics would be cut and repeat the reoccurring parts of the song, or the song will loop back to 0:50 where the 1st verse begins and play through til 7:15 (without the crescendo to indicate the end of the song) where it will loop back to 0:50 until the party defeats Labrn.
E) What special powers would you use to fight your enemies?
If you're familiar with D&D, Labrn is a mix of Psion, Warlock, and Monk. Aldeberran's are all Psionic to an extent, but thanks to the genetic engineering, he has a great deal of Eldritch power (similar to a Warlock) in place of greater Psionic abilities, though he still possesses them, but tends to not use them in place of brute force. The game I'm designing this battle for gives players a "free range" battle environment, meaning they can move around, similar to the game D&D Heros. Labrn, in this angered form brought on by the destruction of his race, tends to use strong Eldritch blasts to knock the players far away, picking off stragglers that don't get blown back and using large AoE spells centered around him, thanks to certain immunities or just a great deal of life that he'll have (being a final boss and all) that he doesn't care to soak up his own damage. (He did say why let mortality wait, and is nearly suicidal at this point in the game, so he doesn't care that an "Ether Shockwave" centered on him will do massive force damage to himself and all those around him.)
-Ether Shockwave = Similar to a Warlock's "Doom" invocation, a great blast of pure energy knocks all within the room back or prone. Labrn himself takes some damage, but the shockwave grows stronger the further it travels from him, picking up kinetic energy and slamming anyone against the walls for further crushing damage.
-Chorus of a Thousand Souls = Labrn slowly levitates into the air, just a few feet as the spell is being cast, then a brilliant light envelops him as 100s of Aldebaran spirits swarm the PCs in similar attack fashions as "Knights of the Round" from FF7.
-Panic Attack = Labrn grabs a PC by the throat, lifting them up the ground with one hand while the other seems to "draw light" from the PC, effectively drawing HP and MP from the character. Afterwards, Labrn throws the person a side, with a blast of force from his hand that was choking the PC, knocking them all the way to the walls of the palace where they huddle in fear until another PC revives them.
-Chain Lightning = Though the lightning does not arc from one character to another as the name might allude, it instead fires multiple lightning bolts in an arc that Labrn is facing.
-Standard Combat = Labrn starts unarmed. While unarmed, he will tend to do slow, solid hits which will knock the characters back or prone. He'll also toss Eldritch Blasts as the PCs, or "Ether Blasts" as they are pure energy. Later on, he'll draw his sword 'Bane.' Labrn could be considered a "dirty fighter," by some, but relentless is more accurate, for even with sword drawn, Labrn will toss punches towards nearby opponents, or side/back kick opponents within range of him, as he uses nearly every limb available thanks to his monk skills.
F) When you are defeated, any dying words?
[..end battle sequence. Que "The Day the World Revived..] *Makes his way to where Mystic is lying, falling to his knees and holding her in his dying arms. Takes a deep breath* "So. . this is what peace. . is like?" *Looks upon his sister's face.* "Big sis. ." *coughs a bit of blood* "wait..up. . for . ." *starts to slink over and with a loud drawing sigh* "Me~. . . . ." *As if sensing his death, his sword scabbard falls off him, granting a player the ability to wield his sword 'Bane'.*
G) Anything else we should know about this final battle? Secrets? Tips?
-Labrn is a relentless fighter! He uses moves to blow the party around the room, damage all players around him, or incapacitate them with his "Panic Attack" move. If you come at him as a group, he'll damage you all as a group, and then try to pick you off one by one. The best strategy is hit-n-run tactics, giving him a different target every "turn" so to say, though it is a real time battle.
-If you stay grouped together too often, he'll tend to use Chain Lightning, or make large sweeps with his sword as well as good kicks. He's taller in his Judicator form than any previous battles you might have fought, so he has a slightly longer reach this time around. If you're going to use group tactics, try to equip yourself with effects that lessen or cancel out electric damage, as well as magical or physical damage.
-The best bet is to keep yourselves semi-scattered around him. He'll hone in on a character, and follow the about the room, but then he'll suddenly change his focus, so all players need to keep on their toes. If they all attack him at once, or too sequentially, he'll unleash Shockwaves and the occasional Chorus of a Thousand Souls on the party.
-The spirits from his "Chorus of a Thousand Souls" each only attack once, but their numbers are great. You can destroy the spirits, but they're too quick for melee attacks. Use AoE spells or abilities to deal enough damage to a number of them to cancel the effects of many, and bunch up together to get their numbers to bunch up as well.
-Labrn tends to use his "Panic Attack" in combination with the Ether Shockwave, but this move takes a bit of time. This is due to the PC struggling of the character and the attention he has to put towards the character in his grasp. Though the caught PC will never be able to break free (the "press X to escape" is only for show, as you can't escape his grasp like you could other foes' moves) PCs can be happy to know that they can knock their friend free, but only while the "light" seems to be drawn from the character. Afterward, it'll be too late and the character will be blasted to the wall. The PCs can still do harm to Labrn if they're too late to knock their friend loose from his grip, but might think of sending someone in the direction the character is about to get blasted too, so that they can revive them before Labrn gets a chance to use his "Ether Shockwave." Labrn always tosses the character in the direction behind him, as he's tossing them back "without a care" like.
-Though partially monk, his anger has driven him past the concentration needed to stun fist the PCs, so you do not have to worry about stun damage. So if you're holding equipment to help against stun, don't bother.
-Though it'll hurt your melee heavy fighter, use combination of magic and melee. If you use too much magic against him, he'll ignore the physical fighters and start turning his focus on killing the magic user!
