Finally Christmas Break!
This year has been crazy! But we had a lovely last day with our students. We did hot chocolate because one of our students had never had it and we were like "We must fix this" LOL.
As we move into the holidays I find myself reflecting on why I celebrate, as I do every year. I am not a Christian. I have spiritual beliefs of my own so I am not really an atheist either but my beliefs are not even remotely associated with that group of...I will not say what I really want to because many Christians are lovely and I have nothing against them on principle. But I thing it is important to make a note, almost nothing you do to celebrate Christmas is Christian! Christmas tree, yule log, tensile, wreaths, holly, mistletoe, the orbs you decorate your tree with, they are all from other, pre-christian origins of people that marked or celebrated the winter solstice. I could go into a looot more detail. As someone that has been very hurt and seen first hand the damage that Christian extremism and fundimentalism causes, I have made it a hobby of mind to research ways to disrupt and learn the truth behind what they peddle to people. But I won't bore you guys.
The point I want to make is one I make every year. Christmas and the winter holidays are not about Jesus. Jesus is one thing they COULD be about if you are of that religeon and that's ok. But what Christmas really is is a celebration of life and making it through the winter to a new year. It is a celebration of us. Of humanity. Of the ones of us that made it and are still here. It is a time to tell those people...I'm so glad you are here....
And
Merry Christmas.

And as far as Christmas, I like the tree, the presents, and family. ;) That's all it's about for me. :) The combination of those three things. ;) And a select rewatching of christmas movies. :)
