Guys I want to ask, when those NFTs became so popular?
And why people are paying thousand of dollars in a ugly monkey, while there are better artists that usually are around $30 or $50?

-Misinformation. Many people are just clueless about NFTs and they can't see why they would be considered bad. It doesn't help that NFTs can be somewhat confusing to explain to someone who doesn't know much about cryptocurrency.
-Cult mentality and delusions of grandeur of supposedly owning such things. They're seen as symbols of flaunting wealth and other people just want a piece of it thinking that they can be seen as wealthy too. But they're all just victims of a big scam.
-Greediness. Companies are also joining in because, of course, they want more money. :P
-Thievery. NFTs are not only just the butt-ugly art, but the actual good art too... that gets stolen from actual artists and minted as NFTs just for a quick buck.
It's just sad because, the money that they pay for these butt ugly monkeys/lions/whatever is all a waste because they don't have legal ownership over the art that they bought. They only pay for a randomly generated link on some blockchain which would irl terms would be like trying to buy something but only paying for the receipt and not the something they bought. Which is why other people can legally right-click and save the butt ugly images for free because nobody really owns them... which is a tactic that anti-crypto people use to troll NFT/Crypto people.
Another thing is that the blockchain and NFT crap was supposed to be advertised as a great thing for artists but according to one of the points that I mentioned above, it was never about artists in the first place. There's too much stolen art that's being minted as NFTs because of greedy NFT people and not even the artists who made the butt-ugly monkeys get a mention nor any compensation in all of this. Pretty much just greed and not caring about anything else.
