i do remember a few days ago some guy on twatter was shocked to see one of their adopts be used in a NSFW situation, shouldnt they be happy that the character is being used in the first place

SIGHS that's actually what just happened to me. I bought/traded for a design, made it a NSFW oc of mine for fun and apparently the designer just lost it. I have no idea what really even happened other than being blocked by like 400+ people. No one even talked to me about it or why anyone was upset. lol

That's just ridiculous. "I sold you this design and it's yours now... but you can't do anything with it that I don't like!!" These people shouldn't be selling designs, or only sell them to close friends or something. I've even seen ones that say they'll take the design back without a refund if they do something "against the rules" (tbh even with a refund it's not cool imo)

Renting the character is a very good way to explain the mindset. I don't mind designers having preferences but I don't understand how they plan to enforce them like laws that must be abided by?

agreed, once u sell something, it's not yours to govern anymore unless it's being sold for way more than what its worth, or being used for hatespeech or racism.

this is exactly why i dont keep tabs on anything i sell; it's not my business when it's rehomed. as long as it's loved, drawn, written about or loved, that's absolutely good enough for me!

Right, I try to be mindful of that after a hard lesson learned. That's all I ever ask of my customers to please never use my designs for hate speech.

I have a lot of ocs I just will never give up for any reason because I don't want anyone else to use them and that's just fine!

Same time I really love accidentally finding my old adopts in the wild getting art/stories/so on it's so magical and wonderful. ;w; I love watching them growwww!

Seems to be the sane verdict for most folk! If I wanna use them as a page doll, roleplay character, DnD player, whatever?? I think that's up to me the owner to decide what to actually DO with the adopt.

new rule: you're only allowed to buy my designs if you're going to draw really weird porn of them!!! (Joking, but yeah, rules about how you can use designs you sell are kinda dumb)

I'm not entirely sure either what happened. Something about the designer posting that I stole the design first, but then they double checked the toyhouse ownership logs on the adopt and said "oh I guess she does own it." but that's... about all I know I think.

I saw a bundle of people harassing another feral artist I adored, make a couple snarky comments at one of them dissing them along the lines of "Well I'll draw more NSFW in your honor!" and then joking used the hate replies/mail I got from that post to draw my wolf pansy in silly cartoon/nsfw positions.

People assumed the pansy wolf was stolen/belonged to the people I commented at. But... No... I just used my own oc. I never once stole anyone else's oc and that really confused me. :C I took down the pansy posts thinking that would calm them down. Guess not.

Aie aie aie. I wish people would just talk to me like a human even if they are upset with me. Instead I only hear a long game of telephone what people say about me, haha. (Luckily everyone also blocked me, so... at least I don't see the hate comments!)

I see so many adopts just sit there and collect dust for years. I'd be ecstatic if someone used one of my characters/adopts for anything, it'd make me so happy to see them be used and in a good home!

I always think that's the funniest thing. I've been blocked by multiple designers for USING their adopts I purchased directly from them. It's WEIRD!!!!

As an adopt maker myself it's... just about the best thing in the world to make a little seed/starter of a design. Then sell/trade it and see it go owner to owner changing and growing in their own ways. Sometimes just one person keeps it and makes it their own online mascot which blows MY MIND IM SO PROUD.

Man one of my fav artists got a custom from me and I get to regularly see her in their patreon updates looking gorgeous and NSFW. I'm so proud of that babe.

I guess I'll just never get whatever this moral pedestal is. lol

Isn't that why they buy them. To use them for their own stuff, in ways that makes them happy.

Sure you can have a preference of how youd like the adopt to be, but if the adopts character you headcanoned changes once sold. GOOD. I am just always suuuuper happy to see a design I made be used in ANY way. (as long as its in nothing weird illegal or hate way)

It's been a big bummer to see so many people not know that common sense.
