Sing 2
I just had to escape the cold of January, even for a couple hours and took advantage of $5.00 Movies on Tuesday and #1 on my list was Sing 2.
I loved Sing when it first came out, enjoyed the music and storyline.
And in this case, Buster Moon's little theater is a smash success, putting on musical shows. But a lone talent scout, Suki Lane views Moon's cast as a "Won't make it in the big league". Suki also works for a talent scout, a wolf named Jimmy Crystal. Buster is bummed at the scouts rejection of his cast, but Nana Noodleman convinces Buster to get his shit together and actually try and get seen by Crystal in Redshore City (Clearly Las Vegas).
Buster and company sneak in to the tryouts and witness the thrashing of the other acts by Crystal dumping them left and right. They too are shot down, but Crystal hears Gunter's elaborate plans for a space opera and is immediately interested. But Buster also lies, saying he can get an reclusive rock star to come out of retirement, Clay Calloway after an absence of 15 years (due to the death of his wife). Crystal immediately greenlights this still unwritten opera on the basis that Calloway will take part and places the group on a near impossible deadline of 3 weeks to get things going. But Crystal also has a team of set designers that work miracles.
Armed with only a vague idea (Gunter keeps changing the storyline and plot) and dire consequences (I'll throw you off this roof if you fail me!) And Johnny, Rosita and Meena face further odds of trusting themselves and finding inspiration by others not involved in the show, but become part of it helping the key players. Adding to the fray, Crystal's daughter, Porsche wants to be involved, proving she's fearless, but can't act for shit, and of daddy's little girl wants in, she better be!
Miss Crawly sets out to track down Calloway, only to return, shell shocked at Calloway's dissuasion, Buster and Ash now go after to talk to Calloway while Miss Crawly is ordered to be in charge of the set and practice like a Marine Drill Sargent , putting the fear of God into everybody. But Buster and Ash also do their best to talk to Calloway to join in.
I noticed that Mike the mouse wasn't back, nor Eddie, Nina's grandson. But new background characters that were not in the first film at all (Noticeably , Horses, Donkey's and a Zebra , there were ZERO Equids in the first film.) and a jaguar that helps Rosita and a entertainment talk show host Linda Le Bon (Mare) and Suki Lane, a saluki. These characters popped to me. Theres also a tiger co-star with Johnny at his section of the show, and therir interaction , gave me the same vibes I got off the Tiger in Beastars.
Overall, I LOVED Sing 2, even more so over the original film. I plan to catch it again soon on the big screen and will own the Blu-ray when it's released. I urge you to take the film in, especially if you watched the first.

FA+

I think my only gripe is that things feel a little rushed, but I think that's 'cause they're sorta jugglin' several character arcs at once, and have to resolve all of them by the end of the film... including Portia (I think that's her name?) who kinda shows up in the middle. But they still do manage to pull it off well enough, and it's a fun movie. Not really the peak of cinema, but certainly worth your time, and good for the whole family.
They probably should've taken Crystal's dismissal of all those acts as a bad sign. I mean, sure, many of them were a little odd, but at least the Flamingos were impressive! Not surprised they brought them back for the credits. Doing all that stuff on roller skates? That takes skill! I feel like Moon himself would've accepted more of them if he'd been in Crystal's position.
And having Bono play Calloway? Heh. Kinda brilliant. He did a great job of portraying an old performer with regrets. And having Ash bring him along. He also had some of the best reactions to the situation in act three, with Crystal going psycho on Moon, and him having just shown up. Couldn't get much worse from there, right? XD
Wurf. Rambled too much. All that to say I loved it too, despite its flaws. =P
I checked Spectrum & its $25! just for 24 hours!
SCREW THAT!!
