Metaphor time here.
Everything is always burning outside this metal box. I'm never burning. Just the world is.

But I am a water djinn in a metal box, a vent on the roof incase I ever turn to steam. And a square in the side where I stick my hand to give it to others. I slice a piece off, and it regrows because inside my box I have set up all the things I need to be stable. But there is a scar around my wrist from so many cuts.

Noone checks inside the box. It's Schroedinger djinn. Are they OK or not. Noone knows. Sometimes I paint an image on the outside but there is no checking inside. Just a request for more hand of water.

I do sometimes worry the hand won't grow back. Those outside the box have access to wells and rivers and oceans but I only have the magic of the box and the systems I've constructed to conserve water.

But everything outside the box is burning all the time.
