Like happens to all holidays, the point gets lost in the shuffle between companies trying to sell you stuff and their ads telling you to 'prove' your feelings by getting the biggest, most expensive thing.
A nice day at home, together, with all the personal touches and details that show you know each-other well (including small gifts, favorite foods, etcetera) is the way to do it, not all that stressful nonsense.
I do not yet speak from experience, sadly, but this much I have gathered from observation, equally learned from seeing what TO do and seeing what NOT to do.
