The problem is a logistics issue much larger than individual accounts, because it is still such a huge source of economic flow through the country which the government can collect taxes on.

Imagine trying to sift through literally millions of accounts, and figuring out whose is legit and whose isn't, and some people don't store money in Paypal they immediately off load it to a bank, so how would you filter or account for that?

Basically it comes down to, you can't pick and choose when you are trying to stop a government from being able to find it's war, the logistics are just not feasible. So it is either you turn it on or off.

For as much as we would like to think your solution would be easy, it isn't. If there is one thing I have learned with this pandemic, is that logistics is hard and messy.

Absolutely, I agree with you. I did write this post after speaking with Russian artists on discord and it pains me to hear their plight, so this was a bit of a slightly more emotional post rather than one built on logic.

In addition, my country Singapore has announced sanctions against Russia; now there's no certainty I can ever commission Russian artists until sanctions are lifted. Some of my favourite artists are from there.

But I am hopeful we will get through this and that alternatives will be realised. I am hopeful that humanity will find away. I don't care what people say, but we will find a solution eventually, even if they are ugly!

I too wish PayPal wouldn't cut off Russia but it is no win scenario unfortunately. Either leave it open give the Russian government a means to still generate funds or close it down and limit the ability of the Russian government to generate funds but hurt citizens in the process.
