Strategic nuclear weapons, which Putin has put in a special regime, consist of intercontinental ballistic missiles, submarine ballistic missiles, and strategic aviation.
Ballistic missiles have not only a maximum but also a minimum range. Intercontinental ballistic missiles, which are in service in Russia, have a range of about 10,000 km. The length of Russia is about 8000 km. Therefore, such missiles on the territory of Ukraine can be launched only from Kamchatka and on a suboptimal trajectory.
Submarine ballistic missiles have a shorter range, but the qualification of the teams is extremely low (launches are conducted by representatives of the manufacturer). In addition, the movement of all submarines is monitored.
The only component of the nuclear triad that can actually be used in Ukraine is long-range aviation. These are large planes with cruise missiles that are well visible on the radar, which are much older than the "calibers" that we already know how to intercept. In addition, Ukraine is armed with the S-200 long-range anti-aircraft missile system, which can shoot down such aircraft over Moscow.
Pressing the Supreme Hook button does not mean that the missiles will fly immediately. Pressing the button gives the order to use nuclear weapons to the commanders of the respective troops (Strategic Rocket Forces, submarine fleet, long-range aircraft).
