It’s definitely been a battle for a good number of years with a connection with my mom. I was raised believing my mom would always be there and no matter what she’ll be my friend at least. Things got ugly when she found a new man and suddenly I didn’t matter. There was a lot more mental abuse she pulled but I tried to bring some sort of connection back with the name cause I craved my childhood connection. Ugh it’s been hard. But thank you! It’s nice to hear that I’m strong cause I feel so weak.

I am debating something similar but it is more my rl last name. My grandmother passed last year, I called a few people my grandfather's side of the family (never was close with them like my rl father was), and no one from that side of the family showed up to the funeral.

My current rl last name comes from him. I am debating changing my rl last name to my great grandfather's name. Never met the man, but my grandmother always was saying me and him thought a lot alike.

I think I get that. But do you want it cause you don’t want to be like his side of the family? I’m a little confused

I would rather not have the name of the side of the family that checked out.

oh gosh im so sorry to hear its been like that. Definitely understand the initial reason for trying to use the name, but sad to see it didn't work out as well as you intended :/. Hopefully FA will eventually let folks change their name (we've been asking for it for decades at this point) so you don't have to start over again. Glad to hear you still like your sona's design enough that its not bringing up anymore of those bad memories and you are fine with just changing the name though :>

I mean I based my fursona roughly on what I look like irl. My hair is brown and wavy and I like pigtails and the color pink. Tho I do have a non-babyfur account on Twitter that has a deer mascot cause my middle name is fawn lol

ah fair enough! Makes sense you would like to keep the design since its based off you irl. Would feel weird if you decided to part with her I imagine since it would probably feel like "getting rid of yourself" i guess? lol. Though I suppose it isn't a bad thing since lots of folks tend to do that as a way of showing how much they have grown better (hopefully) as a person and are moving on from the bad stuff in their past. Had no idea about the fawn name either haha. Thats really clever! Also yes pigtails are like one of my two favorite hair designs honestly. If any of my lady OC's had hair you could most definitely bet at LEAST one of them would have had pigtails for hair XD

Yeah there’s been a few fursonas I’ll never part with. Then there’s ones like the pink dog which I was like “well.. I like pink” 🤣

Afropuffs, Hair twists, and waves were among my other favorites hairstyles haha (more than one i know but still i love them all). Totally understand having characters where you are like "well i like this *specific thing*" and then not really connecting with the character very well afterwards. I always feel bad about having OC's i kind of neglect because of that >.<

Im so glad you got to move in with your bf. Im so sorry to hear your mother has been treating you poorly :/ its surely understandable that you would want to change your username/sona name.
Hopefully some day soon FA will have a ststem in place for easier access to name changing so no one would have to “restart” a whole mew account 🙄

right? Like I’ve seen it’s in the works but how hard is it really.. yeah I really don’t want to start all over. So many artists have had to start over due to dead names. Like literally everywhere else you can change your name. Even deviantart. Why not here?

Oh she thinks she did nothing wrong at all. That’s the worst of it. She did nothing wrong and she acts like nothing ever happened and we’re completely fine. Even tho we had to go through therapy and our last session even ended with her trying to convince me that my dad doesn’t love me. I cried and stopped going. Just hard cause I want the old relationship with my mom back but I can’t even look at her the same or be around her the same. But if I bring it up she guilt trips me.
