I just started using Boosty to support a few artists and I can offer a couple of tips for a new user:
1) The credit/debit feature currently gives me an error,
2) PayPal works but split any large payments into two or three smaller parts (seems to be a PayPal anti-fraud issue rather than a Boosty problem).

So far for me, Boosty/PayPal have worked for payments up to 5500 rubles (under $50, but exchange rates are volatile right now) but over that might have problems with PayPal so it seems better to split payment into two parts. This also allows the buyer/donor to check their PayPal account after the first 'half' and see what the actual exchange rate is and then adjust the second 'half' to make the total of both payment be the amount desired in USD. It is only slightly more work and allows the total amount to use the real exchange rate that PayPal is using.
