I have always tried to keep the doors open to newcomers and new people myself. I don't RP as much as I used to but I do get to do so often enough really. Helps my plethora of things I'm willing to do, hah.
Indeed, sometimes though, you just simply have to make time for yourself and your wants. Life itself isn't living, it's existing, unless you do. And simply existing isn't good enough, not long term.
RP is fun with the right partner(s). Finding someone who can push your buttons just right, while you push theirs, and get into a feedback loop where you're both not only enjoying yourselves, but also enjoying the process by which you craft the narrative as a whole is just *chefs kiss* perfect.
The unfortunate flipside is, there are some who just don't want to put in the sort of effort a truely enjoyable session takes, and rush through it, or do one word/line responses while you're putting down thoughtful and detailed paragraphs.
RP is a definite love/ hate relationship sometimes.
