Dude, you're one of the first folks in our area of interest I started following way back in the day, and I've never regretted it for a second.
And honestly, with all the stuff there is these days, it's hard to be truly original and unique. You're not outright tracing, more taking inspiration and making it your own, and you shouldn't feel bad for that. Hell, look at MY gallery. 80% of it is personalized takes on existing characters, and the other is mostly OCs I made up to be able to do Frog and the Ox stuff with. lol!
